Love You Like a Love Song #1

Crash and Burn: Volume 1 (Love You Like A Love Song) by Michele Callahan

Rate this book
Every love story should have its own song... A childhood promise has Chance Walker picking up a guitar once again. Sure, he's been busy growing up, finishing college, and even law school. He made a promise to his dying mother and he’s determined to keep it. While his guitar playing dreams were big when he was a kid, his skill is rusty and he hires Erin Michaelson to bring music back into his life. Not only is she incredibly talented, she's one of the sexiest women he’s ever met. It's hard to focus on correct finger position when her sweet scent threatens to drive him out of his mind. Less than twenty-four hours after his first lesson he sees her again, but this time she’s on stage using another name and seducing an entire audience of men. He played the gentleman card once, and it got him nowhere. This time, all bets are off and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her. A single, sizzling backstage kiss will change both of their lives forever, because Chance soon realizes that Erin is not just an itch, she’s an obsession that he refuses to live without. Erin Michaelson spends her days teaching guitar and her nights on stage as her sexy alter-ego, Eva James. Music is her dream, her passion. All she wants is to say goodbye to a lifetime of scraping by, working two jobs, and paying for past mistakes. When a major record label exec hears her band play, she gets her big break. But life can be a real bitch, and meeting Chance now is just bad timing. Problem #1: The record label wants her to dump her band and move to L.A. Problem #2: She hadn’t counted on Chance Walker and the scorching heat of that first kiss. And last but not least is Problem #3: Is Chance really falling in love with the dull guitar teacher, or is he really just lusting after the sexy Eva James? Will success make all of Erin's dreams come true? Or will falling in love make them both crash and burn?

Chance can't say no to his mom, when she asks him to follow his dreams after her death he has to. If that means picking up a guitar again, he will. When he sees sweet, innocent Erin in the guitar store and sets up lessons with her he doesn't expect to see her again until Sunday, and especially not with a wig, killer boots, and a short skirt singing at the bar he's at. He may be a good-doing lawyer, but she makes him want to do bad bad things.
Erin is torn between the two sides of herself, the sexy rock goddess or the nervous, big sister playing mom to her younger brother. Chance may be hot as hell, but she doesn't have time for that. That is, until he kisses her and he shows her he has a dark side to him as well. When the opportunity she's always wanted lands at her feet she must decide if following her dream is worth leaving behind her always in trouble brother and the man who makes her really feel.

I love a good rock star romance book, combining music with reading will always work for me. Plus, Michele Callahan has taken a fairly common story and given it really unique character. Erin is definitely not what I expected her to be, I really enjoyed that she had already overcome her past in this novel so it wasn't weighing down the story. She's also a really strong character, despite not knowing her true self at all times she holds down the fort for her band mates, handles her younger brother the best way she knows how, and when she finally realizes her feelings for Chance she figures out what to do. I'm not saying anything she does is really right, but hey, it's realistic and if you know me, you know I love a realistic novel. Then there's Chance, I was about ready to jump into the book and say don't worry girl, you don't want him but I do. Who can say no to a young, smart, hot lawyer who's learning to play guitar and will happily bang you on the hood of his fancy car? Their relationship, while really quick moving, isn't necessarily insta-love but the feelings are there. I really liked that he could see through her and showed her she can be Eva or Erin, whichever she wants. I also liked his interactions with his siblings and even Erin's sibling, he's definitely his own man.

The pacing of the book is very fast, while I admit it isn't insta-love, there is plenty of other things going on that move quickly. Erin let's her alter-ego Eva run the show, but I still felt like her natural qualities would have out shown her sultry-sexy other self. Plus, her music career kind of took off like a rocket. I know signings don't work that way, at all, but in book world I get it. I could have used more of the music side, to understand who Erin's band really was, but I liked seeing her success in all aspects of her life. I definitely want another book based on her brother, but I think we are going to get the stories of Chance's brothers.

Crash and Burn was my first novel from Michel Callahan, but I don't think it will be my last. I enjoyed this music filled love story and look forward to the next book in the series.

In romance books I love me some rush of things, little excitement, some drops of wet panties erotica and a lot of intense chemistry.
Male-tarzan-meets-his-female-Jane chemistry.
Neanderthal love story chemistry.
I'm not a fan of insta-love or too much slow burn but rather the MC's high entertaining behavior- A little anxiety, some male-female chase, maybe a good banter and to wrap it all up a lot of sincere and true luvvvvvvv crush.
This book had nothing from the above. Although it had excellent writing style, a lot of good humor and a funny banter between the brothers it was not between the main couple. The scenes between the hero and the heroine bored me to hell and back. Yes, they made me grin sometimes but again, the monologues were too long and I skimmed too much to enjoy their story.
Maybe it was the wooshy emotional hero I don't know.. but I intend to find out because truly my friend? Your brothers had more potential than you.

4 A Strong Love Carries Through Everything Stars
* * * *

Take two people with past lives very similar in the way they found adoptive parents.
Finding a real family with his adopted Mother and other new brothers, Chance Walker grew up strong and true. He had the love and care needed for him to become the man he is today, attorney at law... helping those in need.

It is his mother's last wish after her death which brings Chance to Erin Michaelson. She is someone whose parents were either alcoholic or drug addicted. Erin grew up fast, taking care of her younger brother. After realizing her life needed to change, at 19 she got herself together and created a path. She is hard working with multiple jobs and also continues to dream of making it in music with her brother and band.

These two meet when Chance needs guitar lessons. After offering a price Erin can't say no to... she takes on teaching him at night after all of her other jobs. Chemistry happens, sparks fly but both are a bit remiss in acting on any of it.

Fast forward to a club and a band is on stage with a very hot sexy lady singing the hell out of the song. The name says Eva James.... but Chance knows it is Erin. She is good, really good. The band is getting producers and others checking them out. Only problem is these business men all want "Eva" without the band.

Chance wants Erin/Eva, hell he will take her with any name. The question is what is she going to do...take the opportunities, worry about her brother or let him finally man up and take care of himself...and where does Chance fit in....

This was a sweet book and there are other stand alone stories with the other brothers coming along.
Looking forward to them from this new author.

Oh, where to begin! Do you ever read a story and then want to tell all your book friends to stop whatever they are doing immediately and read this book? Yeah? Well, that was me after finishing this book.

This story poses the question of what are we willing to do for love? What sacrifices will we make not just to keep that love but also to set it free….

Chance and his brothers are still dealing with the recent loss of their beloved mother when they get an unusual request from beyond the grave. Not wanting to let his mom down, even after she’s gone, lawyer Chance sets about realising the dreams of his ten-year-old self; becoming a rock star. Chance enlists the help of Erin Michaelson to teach him guitar and is instantly attracted to her. Unsure if his advances will be spurned he decides to bide his time for the perfect moment to ask her out.

Yet, he is knocked of his feet when on a night out with his brothers he finds Erin fronting a local up and coming band as her sexy alter ego, Eva James. On the cusp of hitting the big time and dealing with a wayward brother and her band mates, Erin doesn’t need the added complication of a man like Chance thrown in the mix.

However, some things can’t be denied. Chance is unwilling to walk away from Erin even if the time they have is limited. He won’t stand in the way of what she’s worked for but will savour every moment he can get. The heat these two generate….phew!

This was the first work I’ve read by Michele Callahan and it won’t be my last. I was completely swept away her storytelling and felt every emotion with the characters as if I was really there.

My heart hurt for everything Erin had endured as a child. She finds herself being more of a mother to her brother, AJ, and has to wake up to the fact she is enabling him more than helping. Now she has the opportunity to follow her dreams but what about Chance?

Chance on the other hand had his life all perfectly planned out but I think the old adage of ‘Mother Knows Best’ comes in to play. His mom’s request may just be the wakeup call he needs….

You get all the feels with this story and I love the added touch with the song.

I can’t wait to read the rest of the Walker brothers’ stories and I’m calling dibs on Derek #justsayin

One quote resonated with me from the story:

“But we either focus on our past, or we choose to create a different life.”

I couldn’t have put it better myself. You need to one-click this book today!

**Stopped reading @ 40%!**

Right from the start, this NetGalley reviewer had the feeling this author was trying a little too hard to give us a self-conscious, insecure, klutzy heroine so she could play up this leading lady’s completely opposite stage persona. Also, the instant attraction between the main couple seemed overly done/rushed by both parties, as well. The stilted writing and occasional thrown in crass language had me thinking I likely wasn’t a good match for this author’s writing style.

What ultimately made this book crash and burn for me though was when Erin’s brother, AJ, approached her for $100 to pay a waitress for giving him a BJ. Apparently, it was common practice for him to do so. Sadly, she actually does fork over the money. If that’s not bad enough, when Chance, the hero, tries to put AJ in his place, so he’ll stop not only taking advantage of Erin but women in general, Erin gets mad at him and tries to defend A.J. That misplaced way of thinking breaks a big romance book commandment for me. Call me crazy, but I actually need to respect the heroine. In the words of The Band Perry, I’m done…with this one. Here’s to hoping others enjoy it. My romance book-loving friends, it just wasn’t for me.

Sweet & VERY SPICY!!!
This book was fantastic! The plot was unique and engaging, and holy smokes, Michele wrote some SMOKING HOT love scenes!
This was one of those stories where it felt like the characters truly loved each other. The emotions were written so well that I could feel exactly what Michele had intended for me to feel.
Erin was fun to read because she was so vulnerable. She had self-doubt and humility, and she had a realistic view of what was going on around her and with Chance.
Chance was absolutely adorable. He knew he wanted Erin and immediately stepped into the role of being her man. He protected her when she needed it and fought for her to prove how he felt. Sigh!
I was also introduced to Chance's brothers. Michele did an excellent job of giving me a summary of each of them, and, needless to say, I will be reading each and every one of their stories (starting with Jake's story, which is the next book in the series!)
All in all, this was a very clever, very enveloping rock star romance and I am now a BIG big fan of Michele Callahan!!!

“He watched, unable to speak as she ran her tongue along her bottom lip in a slow, seductive glide. When he remained frozen in place she closed the distance between them and lifted her hands to his shoulders.”

5 love song stars! This book…..I can’t even put a sentence together…..addicting and sexy!

Erin is a guitar teacher by day and Eva James, the sexy rock star by night. She meets Chance, when he signs up for guitar lessons and as soon as he meets her he’s smitten. Later that night he sees her again on stage as Eva James and he’s determined to get her. After sharing a kiss backstage all bets are off. After that hot kiss neither can deny the feelings they have, but there’s a problem. A record label wants Eva to dump her band and move to L.A., which under normal circumstances she’d be okay with, but she is battling these feelings for Chance. Not to mention she’s doubting Chance’s true feelings for her, does he love the guitar teacher or the hot rock stars?

I could not put this book down once I started it!! I loved the whole idea of this book and I loved Chance and Erin/Eva. I think this book is a great start to the series, and I’m excited to see where it’s going next!

Chance's mother passed away several months ago when her four sons receive a reminder that she would like them to follow the dreams they shared with her when they were young. This leads Chance to guitar lessons, which lead him to Erin. Erin is a talented musician who performs under her bolder alter-ego, Eva James. Chance is very attracted to Erin, but doesn't make a move on her because he is trying to act like a gentleman. After seeing her perform as Eva, he can't hold back and he makes his attraction to her clear. Erin is very attracted to Chance as well, but she isn't one to take sex casually, and she is about to embark on a career that could take her far away from Chance.

Chance and Erin are both very likable characters, and it is easy to cheer them both on throughout the story. The whole concept about the brothers receiving the letters they wrote to their mother when they were young is really touching and I liked that whole concept. I actually enjoyed a lot about this whole story. My main issue with all of it is that I would like everything more developed. I feel like we know a few things about each main character, but I feel like I would have liked to know both of them a lot better. I also would have enjoyed seeing more development in their relationship. I felt like the pacing of everything was a little too fast. I'm not opposed to the insta-attraction thing, but if I'm going to buy into insta-love, I'm going to need more of everything. That said, the chemistry between Chance and Erin was very hot and I was really hoping they would figure out how both of them could be happy. I would read more by this author in the future.

I found this novel very enjoyable and easy to read.
Michele Callahan's writing caught my attention with its fast paced rhythm, scorchy hot and emotional scenes.
At first I was attracted by the promise of a female rock star but I easily understood that her character had so much more to say. I frantically turned page after page to find out if the main characters,Erin and Chance, will have their happy ending.
I've especially liked the relationship between the Walker brothers, they all look like big baby boys but the reader can easily pick the love they have for each other even reading their funny bantering.
I can't really wait to read the other books in this series and I hope that Erin's brother,AJ, has his own book because I want to know him better.

When I saw this book I couldn't wait to read it, I love the love story between Chance and Erin. Chance mother had made him and his brother to write three things they wanted to do when they get older. Chance was in the fourth grade wrote Things I promise to try to do with my life—1 –Be a lawyer so I can take nice kids away from bad parents. 2 –Be a rock star. 3 –Be a race car driver. Along his journey he meets Erin she wants to become a rock star, that's all I'm going to say. My new book boyfriend is Chance Walker, you will fall in love with him to. Looking forward to reading the second book "Alone With You" I give Crash and Burn 5 stars.

Happy Reading

Is happiness what we dream of? Or do we just dream of what we think might make us happy?

Erin Michaelson was no stranger to things not going her way or of having to do things the hard way. She had been through the ringer more than once in her 24 years and she was sure she was going to go through it a lot more. For now she was just going to focus on her brother, her music and her passions.

When Chance Walker’s mother passed away he had no idea that she would still be able to have this much of an effect on him. Yet he still found himself signing up for guitar lessons and looking a way to keep his 14-year-old promise to his mother.

Chance and Erin have little in common if you look at the surface but digging deeper these two seem like two disasters ready to happen. Will they be able to make each others dreams come true? Or will they both live in nightmares for the rest of their lives?

This is Ms. Callahan’s first novella in the Walker brother series and I have to admit I have a HUGE problem with it. I have to wait for the other three brothers! So not fair! She does a really great job in this novella of creating great characters that have a depth and are relatable. While there is some sex this is not an overtly erotic novel, so don’t expect that. Do expect some sex, some healing and some second chances while reading this compelling novella.

This was a sweet story about following your dreams.
Chance never could tell his mother no. So when she makes a video request of her boys 6 weeks after her death he has to relearn to play the guitar.
Enter in Erin, music store employee, guitar teacher, and rocking lead singer. Her life has been pretty much crap but she's doing the best she can taking care of herself and her younger brother while hoping their band hits the big time.
When Chance enters Erin's store the attraction is instant. She doesn't want to be his teacher but when he offers double pay for "Aaron" she can't afford to turn him down.
After beginning a relationship Erin is offered a better life while Chance starts to question the path he's taken.
I thought this to be a well written story about what to do when you suddenly have a chance to have your dreams come true, even if its not exactly how you pictured them, when you've just begun to enjoy the life you have.

Outstanding read ! A story of love and dreams !!

This is Erin and Chance's book. Erin is hired to learn Chance how to play the guitar. Sounds easy enough ?. Attraction builds and Chance asks Erin out. Little does he know that Erin has just been bidding her time, rolling with life's punches, waiting for her big break. Erin is in a band with her brother and is on the cusp of hitting the big time. Erin needs to focus on making her future a success and although it sounds shallow, can she commit to another venture........giving away her heart.

Chance doesn't want to wreck Erin's future, he just wants to be part of it. Can he let go if it's what she needs ?. See sooooo much angst and stuff going on !!

This is truly a spectacular read. Chance and Erin's story was amazing. I absolutely fell in love with the Walker brothers......need me one.....okay whine over !!. I sighed happily at the end (that's your only tip ;0) )

A MASSIVE well done Michele and many thanks for this opportunity xx

Please let book 2 be soon !!!!!!

Later peeps xxx

What can I say? The cover is what attracted me to this book. I'm a sucker for a hot guy in a suit, especially when we get a glimpse of what is hidden underneath. Unfortunately the book didn't quite live up to my expectations, as a whole.

A certain set of wishes felt incomplete and I just didn't understand the reasoning for wanting those wishes to be fulfilled.

For me the story didn't flow smoothly enough, there was just too much insta-love with very little build up and anticipation and for me Erin was just too selfish a character, to be likeable.  But really it didn't help that there was very little depth to the characters. They almost had a two dimensional quality which meant I wasn't able to warm to anyone in particular.

However, it was during the sex scenes that this became a completely different book.  They were hot and it was pretty much the only time I got a sense of both Chance and Erin's character.

Sadly this book wasn't for me, but I wish the author every success.

Michele is a new author for me. I'll be honest when I read the description I was intrigued but wasn't sure if this book was going to be for me or not. I am happy to say that I really enjoyed this book. The characters, Erin and Chance were very believable and felt really relatable. Everything that happened was stuff that I felt could happen in real life and not just in a book. I really loved the dynamics between Chance and his brothers. I found myself laughing at them a lot. I have three sisters and could definitely see us acting the same way as the Walker brothers. Chance is quite the dreamboat and Erin and her alter ego Eva James were written great. I really loved how different on the outside Erin was from her on stage persona Eva. And put them together and you really have great characters. I give this one 4 AMAZEBALLS stars!!

I received this book free for exchange for my honest review via netgalley.
This is the first book I have read by Michele and loved it. Erin works in a music store by day and is Eva James by night in a band with her brother. One day she meets the a mystery man, who offers her double the money for guitar lessons.
Chance Walker made a promise to his mother that he would learn to play his guitar again. Thats when he meets Erin. Then he sees her singing her singing in a bar. He knows she trouble, but he can't stay away. But what happens when she has to choose between love and a career.
I absolutely loved Chance and the Walker brothers. The connection between them was nothing short of brotherly love. I can't wait to read more about them!

Crash and Burn is the first novel in Michele Callahan’s new contemporary romance series. Known for her sci-fi with paranormal elements, this book will be very different for many of her current readers. That being said, her story voice shines through. Though the focus in on the romance, the novel is well-written and the characters believable. If you are a fan of rock stars or childhood dreams, you will love this book. The original lyrics are a nice touch. Both Erin and Chance are fun to get to know and their relationship easy to follow. My favorite part is the relationship among the brothers and I very much look forward to seeing where Callahan goes with the series.

A nice love story, engaging, romantic and sexy, to be read in one breath.
Erin and Chance have a great passion for the music that binds and unites them. As a child Chance wanted to become a rock star but then chose to become a lawyer. When his mother dies he understand he was wrong to give up his dream. So he decides to start playing the guitar. He takes lessons from Erin. She is a sweet girl, attractive but the evening turns and becomes a rock star really sexy. She's fabulous on that stage and Chance loses his heart to her. He finds the courage to kiss her and nothing will be as before. Erin receives a truly unique proposition, not to be missed. But it would mean moving to Los Angeles, to be forced to always wear her sexy mask and abandon Chance.
The characters are believable and engaging. Erin is a sweet and shy girl but her passion for music gave her the strength and courage to go on stage and become Eva James. She takes care with love of her brother even though he often doesn't deserve it and is very badly with her. Chance understands he was wrong and he's living a life that is not for him. Will he have time to change? Will he have the courage to do it?
It 's a well-written romance, with a flowing and brilliant style, the love story is really sweet and special.
I was pleased to find out that this was the first book in a series. This book was really amazing so I will be interested to read the next book in this series.
Highly recommended for those who love romantic stories set in the world of music.

Crash and Burn by Michele Callahan

A tempting romance story that says to follow and live your dreams.
I really enjoyed this romance. Your dreams at the age of ten are different than in your twenties, but Chase honors his Mother but picking up the guitar and relearning to play. And his teacher is exactly who he learns to play with.
They are a young couple that have to deal with a few stumbling blocks. That's the way of the world.
In the end it's a touching, sexy, romance with raw emotion.

Excerpt:
"He walked toward her and sighed in relief when she let him pull her into his arms. She collapsed against his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.
"Erin, I know I'm just a stupid, clueless man here, but will you please tell me what's really going on in that pretty head of yours? Have mercy. If you don't help me out here, I might never figure it out."

Crash and Burn by Michele Callahan

This was not my Favorite from Michele Callahan. The story felt very rushed. Although it was funny and I loved the idea of the heroine being the sexy rockstar , I was a little disappointed. The story moved so fast that it gave us no time to get know the characters well or feel their connection. There was nothing that made them stand out and grab our attention. There was more interactions and chemistry between the brothers than our lead characters. It was a sweet story that I felt if slowed down it could have been great.

I did like how Chance was protective , sweet and ready to give it his all.

Erin was strong , yet sweet and I loved her alter ego. She was selfish but I totally understand why.

Every love story should have its own song...

A childhood promise has Chance Walker picking up a guitar once again. Sure , he's been busy growing up, finishing college , and even law school. He made a promise to his dying mother and he’s determined to keep it. While his guitar playing dreams were big when he was a kid , his skill is rusty and he hires Erin Michaelson to bring music back into his life. Not only is she incredibly talented, , she's one of the sexiest women he’s ever met. It's hard to focus on correct finger position when her sweet scent threatens to drive him out of his mind.

Less than twenty-four hours after his first lesson he sees her again , but this time she’s on stage using another name and seducing an entire audience of men. He played the gentleman card once and it got him nowhere. This time all bets are off and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her. A single sizzling backstage kiss will change both of their lives forever , because Chance soon realizes that Erin is not just an itch , she’s an obsession that he refuses to live without.

Erin Michaelson spends her days teaching guitar and her nights on stage as her sexy alter-ego , Eva James. Music is her dream , her passion. All she wants is to say goodbye to a lifetime of scraping by , working two jobs and paying for past mistakes. When a major record label exec hears her band play , she gets her big break. But life can be a real struggle and meeting Chance now is just bad timing.

Problem #1 : The record label wants her to dump her band and move to L.A.

Problem #2 : She hadn’t counted on Chance Walker and the scorching heat of that first kiss.

And last but not least is Problem #3 : Is Chance really falling in love with the dull guitar teacher , or is he really just lusting after the sexy Eva James ?

Will success make all of Erin's dreams come true ? Or will falling in love make them both crash and burn ?

Interesting start to a new series. Centered on the Walker brothers who recently lost their mother after a long fight with cancer. All four brothers were adopted but were truly wanted and loved and have a tight bond. Their mother made each of them write her a card listing their childhood dreams. The lawyer gives them back their cards and a tape of their mother asking them to pursue these dreams.

Chance’s dream was to be a rock star, but he hasn’t played guitar in over seven years. He gave it up while going to college, law school and working towards partner at his law firm. So he goes to the local music store, buys a great guitar and signs up for lessons with Erin.

Erin is the lead singer and brains behind a band with her little brother and two other friends. She’s “ordinary” Erin at the music store, but her sexy alter ego Eva James leads the band. Eva is all costumes, wigs and even different colored contact lenses. Her dream is to make it big in the music business. Problem is, the rest of her band aren’t serious about it, especially her little brother who spends his time drunk, high or lost in cheap women, all paid for with money he bums from Erin. They had a tragic childhood and Erin is constantly trying to make that up to her brother.

Chance has an immediate attraction to Erin but doesn’t act on it right away. Then he runs into her when the band is playing at a local bar. Sparks ensue, and the start of a relationship that is anything but smooth. Erin assumes that Chance is only attracted to Eva. Chance can’t convince her that he’s really attracted to Erin.

Erin catches the eye of a record label exec who wants to sign just her, not the band. The brother is not happy with that idea. Chance reviews the record label contract for her and helps her get signed. Erin & Chance have a quick, hot & steamy romance that ends after a few days when Erin has to move to California for the recording contract. She breaks it off with Chance because she doubts a long distance relationship can work.

It takes them a little while apart, her brother to get in serious trouble and Chance realizing he wants more from life than being a partner in a law firm to get to an HEA.
The characters are interesting; I’m looking forward to reading the stories of the other brothers. They are each described so differently, I don’t think this series will be boring.

I want to thank the author for writing a complete book of over 300 pages. So many current authors are writing what are really novellas or splitting a full book into several pieces. Kudos to Michele Callahan!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review.

"Every love story should have its own song..."

Crash and Burn
was a fire. This novel is Hot, capital H, just what I expected after seeing the cover. I rarely prefer novels with "love-at-first-sight" but seriously, MC changed that for me. This was one intriguing story with a tempting synopsis, hot and charming main characters and some awesome supporting characters.

When a childhood promise made Chance Walker, a Civil Lawyer, pick up a guitar once again he hires Erin Michaelson to bring music back into his life. Only one meet and they developed infatuation for each other. But the girl in front of Chance was much more than what he could see...

Erin Michaelson spends her days teaching guitar and her nights on stage as her sexy alter-ego, Eva James. Already intrigued by both of her side, Chance wants her and will do anything to keep her. Another meet and a single, sizzling backstage kiss changes both of their lives forever.

description

“But she’s trouble. Capital T. That’s not the kind of girl you want to tangle with. Way too much going on. Just look at her.”

But this girl is not trouble- she's in trouble. She has a bad past, a brother dependent on her for all the mess he makes and some big dreams. She could have a relationship with Chance but her life turns better/ worse when a major record label exec gives her big break but with some heartbreaking conditions- leave band, leave Chance, go to LA

“Chance, I don’t know how to be normal, and you want normal, a white picket fence and two kids and a dog.”

Erin can choose one and lose the rest........

I liked the story, loved Erin and her alter-ego and fell hard for handsome Chance..

description

This book is the first novel by MC I've read but I'm certain that it won't be the last one. I loved her style and would certainly look forward for more of her works :)

>Book Review – Crash and Burn

>This is the first book in the Love You Like a Love Song series and ends in an HEA. This series tells the stories of four very different brothers. The first brother to get his story told is Chance. He dreamed of being a child advocate due to his experience in the foster care system. He is now a successful attorney. His life is still missing something. A childhood promise requires him to pick up the guitar. Erin teaches guitar by day and is a rock star by night.

>I’m sure there are a lot of people who put on personas for their jobs, but Erin seems to almost have a split personality. Everything she does she has to be either Erin or the wilder, Eva. She almost seems to have a mental issue. Chance has to remind her whom he is with. The story is fairly predictable. The author teases another love interest, but the conflict from the unwanted love interest goes nowhere. I’m wondering why the new label exec is even mentioned. He was never any competition for Chance.

>Chance as a character, fell flat. He was described as an alpha, but he showed little to no alpha tendencies. He seemed dull and never really recovered. The one quick look the reader was given into his work life was humorous, though. His much older secretary was fodder for jokes, as his brothers proved. The book text itself had a few glaring errors. A character describes a “whole” in their heart. Really? Mistakes such as this take me as a reader right out of the story.

>The interactions with the characters were very well written, especially when all the brothers get together. The back and forth dialogue is fast paced and true to life. Even though the different brothers are only secondary characters in this story, their different personalities really showed through. As much as the characters in this story weren’t my favorite, the story line is intriguing and the other brothers interesting enough to me to want to read more about them.

>I am a reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving it 4 hearts.

Chance Walker was adopted along with three other boys by a very special lady. Before his adoption, Chance was raised by his drug addict parents. His early years formed him and his career choice of becoming a lawyer to protect children from bad parents. When his adoptive mother dies, she leaves something special for Chance and his brothers. They're curious when her attorney gives each brother an envelope containing a card they wrote for her when they were young. Their mother had one last wish. She wanted them to make one last promise, follow their dream of becoming what they wrote on the cards.

Erin Michaelson's mother was an alcoholic and while driving drunk, she died in a car crash. Her father is a drug addict and doesn't care he has two children. At the age of nineteen, Erin entered a rehab program. She didn't want to follow in her parents footsteps and decided to break the cycle. She works three jobs to pay the bills and take care of her younger brother. One of the jobs is lead singer for the band Fourth Strike. She's barely holding the band together. Her brother and the other members are more worried about sex and drugs then playing music. When a rich guy ask for guitar lessons and is willing to pay double the rate for after hour sessions, she can't afford to turn him down. It's lust at first sight for them. Erin is shy and doesn't have the nerve to act on her attraction. She wishes she can be more like her alter ego "Eva James."

Vanessa Vale suggested I read "Crash and Burn" written by Michele Callahan. I knew if Vanessa liked it, I would too. Well, Vanessa knew what she was talking about. I really enjoyed reading "Crash and Burn." It's a sweet love story, without being to sappy.....if you know what I mean. It has humor, hot sex and even hotter brothers. In this story Ms. Callahan also makes you fall hard for bad boy Derek, then tortures us by giving us Jake's story next ;) That's ok, I'm also looking forward to reading about the quiet sexy cowboy in "Alone With You."

OOOHHHH have I found a whole new man crush to fight over or what? And there will be more to come in the form of his 3 brothers!

Chance Walker is a brilliant lawyer and has a very promising future ahead of him. He is passionate about what he does and is on track to becoming a serious contender for a partner position in the years to come, or so he dreams. But, a childhood promise that he made to his mother may change the course of his future, more than he ever bargained for.

Erin Michaelson is a geek. Plain and simple. She works in a music store in Denver but dreams of becoming a rock goddess, playing her songs to thousands of adoring fans and strutting her stuff on the big stage. She is in a band with her younger brother AJ and his mates called Forth Strike and she is just waiting for that one chance to make it big.
When Chance walks in to the shop to purchase a guitar, little do both him and Erin realise what is about to happen to them. They are both lost in their own worlds of pain and hurt. Could they be the answer to each other’s prayers? And if so, at what cost to their dreams?

I loved this book. The story is written exceptionally well and I love how it changes seamlessly from Erin to Chance’s POV without having to state it at the beginning of each chapter or break in story. There are a few laugh out loud moments (especially with Chance and his 3 brothers) and some gut wrenching lines in this story of heartbreak and pain. The story is fast paced and although it all takes place in around 2 weeks or so. I found myself caught up in the whirlwind romance of the characters and I was willing them to get their act together. There are some steamy scenes to read but without being over the top. I could relate to Erin quite a bit with her alter ego on stage hiding who she believes she is and I think every girl wishes she had a Chance to help her realise who she truly is. I cannot wait to read the other books in the series which will focus on each brother and their own love lives (and possibly their own promise to their mother).

There were elements of this story that I really enjoyed but there were also other aspects that I didn’t and that meant that getting to the end was a major achievement, I don’t like not being able or willing to see something through and stopping half way through is a copout but I was really struggling to find something to hold my attention for much of the story and on a couple of occasions I was ready to throw in the towel.
Chance and Erin were both likeable enough characters and I liked the synopsis that following the death of his mother, Chance and his brothers were each given letters that they had written to her as children. Reminders so to speak of the exuberance of youth, the dreams that they had for themselves, that through her passing she was able to almost rekindle the dream they each had for themselves. After all it is all too often that we forgo things that we as children hold dear and all too often we let the opportunity to develop a talent pass us by.
Chance engaged Erin to teach him how to play the guitar, a talent musician on the brink of making her mark, it was almost as if they were wrong time, wrong place. After all, if her career took off, they wouldn’t even be in the same city but what do you do when everything tells you that starting something is all wrong but your heart screaming at you to just take a leap of faith?
I liked the reflective tones that the story used but my main gripe was the speed. The whole thing just took off to quickly, it was galloping along and I somehow felt left behind in its wake.
I would have liked a little more time to digest the characters, to get to know them a little better and to give them a chance to show me how they wanted to get to their happy ever after, it all seemed a little too speedy.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Chance’s mom left him one last wish. In order to honor her wish, he has to pick up the guitar again. When he begins taking lessons from shy and timid Erin, he only expects to see her on Sunday’s to continue with his lesson. He was quite surprised to see her in a band wearing a short mini skirt, boots, and an outrageous wig. He realizes that he would like to get to know her better.

As a family practice attorney, he doesn’t see himself with a rocker, but immediately decides that he wants to get to know her better.
Erin’s parents were killed when she and her brother were younger. Both grew up in foster care. Now, Erin can’t remove herself from her brother who uses her to pay for his bills, his booze, and his women. Erin has been offered an opportunity with a producer in California. The producer does not want her brother or other members of the band - only Erin.

This was an excellent plot and was very fast paced. The issue that I had was with Erin and her alter ego. Erin was the shy and timid woman until she was with the band or on stage. When she became Eva, she became a sex vixen. Often told through Erin’s POV, she would have an inner turmoil of how Eva would handle the situation. This turn of events created Erin as having a double personality.

I did enjoy the writing style by this author and will continue with the series. Chance has three brothers, and I am interested in learning more about their stories.
