now you might think it's your usual beauty and beast love story, but our beloved MMC (Gideon) is very much UNLIKE your usual beast MMCs (cough lords of scoundrels cough) he gained his ''beast'' nickname when his friend betrayed and hurt him during fencing gone wrong, that same friend also betrayed him when seduced his then fiancée and impregnated her but when Gideon broke the engagement due to cheating (he never slept with her) she offs herself and there begins the rumor Gideon ravished a rector's daughter.
one of my fave FMCs ever (Harriett) never believes other people about his reputation, calling up on him when she discovers thieves while digging up fossils in his caves they start somewhat a relationship, and since Harriett is very very stubborn (and Gideon never cruel) they get stuck in a cave together 😋😋😋 you know what that means!!!
Now from the start Gideon becomes head over heels with Harriett, everyone but herself sees it, defends his honor multiple times even traps her into the marriage, i don't want you to get scared of this ex fiancée they never slept together and from the beginning i felt he never loved her. He was not a manwhore but IDK about virginity there is no discussion about his past, she is a v ofc.... one bad thing we don't see the marriage scene because OM almost kidnaps her 🤣🤣 he goes off RUNNING, another OM his ex friend tries to seduce and almost rape Harriett but she saves herself both times TW.
lets talk with quotes because i suck at writing reviews.
The thought of Miss Pomeroy running about unprotected in the middle of the night was a distinctly unpleasant one.
this man sees her, what ? one or two times already smitten enough to go out of his years long seclusion and attends a party for her just to dance a single waltz and leaves...........
Gideon took her arm and interrupted her coolly. “I believe you will want to introduce me to your aunt and your sister now, Miss Pomeroy.”
“I will?”
“Yes. I think it is appropriate under the circumstances.”
“What circumstances?” Harriet saw the look of anxious expectation on Aunt Effie’s face from halfway across the room.
“We have just danced the waltz, Miss Pomeroy. People will talk.”
“Rubbish. I do not care what anyone says. You cannot possibly blacken my reputation by merely dancing once with me.”
“You would be astonished at how easily I can destroy a woman’s reputation, Miss Pomeroy. Let us undo what damage we can tonight by means of a proper introduction to your family.”
Harriet groaned. “Oh, very well. But I would really much rather discuss the plans for catching the thieves.”
Gideon smiled his brief, fleeting smile. “Yes, I imagine you would. But, as I said, you must trust me to deal with the matter.”
the cave scene was so hawttt, usually I'm desensitized to smut honestly but this one...
Harriet gasped at the shocking intimacy. She knew she really ought to tell him to stop. But she was nearly twenty-five years old, she reminded herself. And this was the first time she had ever known the touch of a man. It would probably be the only time she experienced it. And this was Gideon.
“Harriet. My sweet, trusting Harriet,” he whispered hoarsely against her throat as he slid the bodice down to her waist. “You have sealed your own fate tonight.”
He hesitated, still poised at the soft, moist entrance of her body. Sweat beaded his forehead. “God help me, I want you. More than I have ever wanted anything in my life.” The words were torn from Gideon in a strangled groan as he surged slowly, heavily, deeply into her.
all his good intentions had gone up in smoke. Making love to Harriet had become as inevitable as the dawn.
“Fustian.” Lady Hardcastle frowned. “Nothing unsettles your nerves, Gideon.” “You do not know Harriet, madam.”
A slow, faint smile curved Gideon’s mouth. “I’ll grant you that much. Your eyes are, indeed, the only ones that matter. And you have very beautiful eyes, Harriet. Have I told you that?”
“Believe me, I do not forget for one single moment,” Gideon said. “I lie awake at nights remembering just how intimately we are acquainted. I have not been sleeping at all well lately, Harriet, and it is all your fault. You have invaded my dreams.” “Oh.” Harriet was not certain how to respond to that. She could not tell just how much Gideon minded having his dreams invaded. She wondered if she should mention the fact that he was currently invading hers. “I am sorry you are not sleeping well, sir I occasionally have a problem with sleep myself.”
Harriet grinned. “Very generous of you, my lord.”
Gideon stared at her, aware of the hunger that was warming his blood. It was going to be a long night, he thought. “There is just one detail I would like to clarify.”
“And what is that, my lord?”
“You are the most beautiful woman I have ever known,” he whispered thickly.
Harriet’s mouth fell open in astonishment. “What rubbish. Gideon, how can you possibly say such a thing?”
He shrugged. “It is no more than the truth.”
“Oh, Gideon.” Harriet blinked quickly. Her mouth trembled. “Oh, Gideon.”
She flew across the room and hurled herself straight into his arms.
Pleasantly stunned by the unexpected reaction, Gideon allowed himself to be toppled backward onto the bed. His arms closed around Harriet and he pulled her down across his chest.
“You are the most attractive, most handsome, most magnificent man I have ever met,” Harriet murmured shyly against his throat.
Gideon realized he felt good when he was with Harriet. She had a way of making him feel heroic and noble and proud. Her faith in him was obvious. For the first time he understood that what he had found in Harriet made up for all that he had lost in the eyes of his father and of Society six long years ago.
“Harriet, I vow you do not know what you do to me.” “I love to touch you.” Her eyes were full of wonder as she raised her head to look up at him. “You are incredible. So strong and powerful and graceful.”
She was his. He was a part of her. Nothing else on earth mattered. Not even his lost honor.
His tawny eyes were almost gold in the firelight. “There is no one else on the face of this earth whom I trust as completely as I trust you. Do not ever forget that.” Harriet felt a giddy rush of happiness. “Do you mean that?”
“But you cannot know that for certain. Gideon, I could not bear it if anything happened to you. I love you.” Gideon slowly lowered his razor. Face swathed in lather, he turned to confront her. “What did you say?” “You heard me,” Harriet said. “I do not see why you should act so astonished. I have loved you for quite some time. Why on earth do you think I allowed you to make love to me in that cave?”
Gideon reached for her and pulled her tightly against him, inhaling the wonderful, warm, womanly scent of her. “You are everything I have ever wanted.” His tongue felt thick and awkward in his mouth. “God help me, I did not even know how much I needed your love until you gave it to me.”
Reassurance about the ow
“Good God, no.” He looked down at her in glowering amazement. “I was convinced I loved her when I offered for her. Looking back, I think I was merely dazzled by her beauty and the fact that such a beautiful creature apparently wanted me. But whatever I felt for Deirdre Rushton died the night she told me she had accepted my suit only because her father forced her to do so and that she was pregnant with another man’s child. She told me she hated the very sight of me.”
