Casey and Jericho are supposed to move to Philly, but they’re still hanging around the Outer Banks. I don’t think they really want to go, especially after they find two abandoned kids. It’s a fast paced book with plenty of gruesome discoveries and clues to follow. I thought one of the characters was a bit strange but hadn’t figured out who the killer was. I was glad of a major decision that’s made at the end.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the early read.
Detective Casey White’s newest case touches her deeply. Two children were saved after being found on a small raft, and it soon becomes tragically clear that they lost their parents. Even more, Casey is fairly certain that they likely witnessed their parents death. Murdered, in fact. The children are of tender ages, just three and six. Casey is determined to discover who killed their parents.
When a yacht is discovered with the bodies of a man and woman, Casey knows she has found the children’s parents. With a clue as to their identities, Casey leaves no stone unturned to find the killer. Shockingly. Another body is soon discovered on the beach near where the murdered couple was found, and Casey finds herself in a race against time before yet another murder takes place.
While Casey and her partner Jericho are searching for the killer, this intriguing book also shows how their personal lives are changing. Casey had a very personal loss many years ago, and that story had an amazing result for Casey, thus prompting their decision to move away from the Outer Banks. With this personal edge and shocking twists, this latest book in a fantastic series was definitely a great read.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
Two Little Souls is book nine in the fantastic Detective Casey White series and this one picks up right where book eight left off. With Casey and boyfriend Jericho rescuing two terrified children out at sea in a life raft and who have witnessed their parents murder.
However, with no idea where they came from or their parents names. Casey and Jericho can't do anything, except, get them safely to shore and seek urgent medical help.
But it doesn't take long for Jericho's former Marine Patrol colleagues to call with news that the boat they escaped from has been found. And the scene is worse than anything Casey could've imagined.
Yet, she and her depleted team including Jericho, M.E. Samantha, investigator Tracey and Nichelle who is technically now an FBI Agent are determined to get answers.
And they soon do.
As the female victim is identified as Detective Sara Roth from the NYPD. But when Casey contacts her captain she receives some shocking news.
News that has her certain a serial killer has found their way from New York to the Outer Banks and Casey is soon proven right.
As another body is discovered killed and displayed using the same MO as the NY killer.
And now the race is on, and as danger stalks ever closer Casey is going to have to pull out all the stops if she is to stop a desperate killer and keep two traumatised children safe.
And with heart pounding twists, and a killer I didn't see coming. This was a cracking read, that I've spent every spare moment reading and honestly I couldn't get enough!
I would happily recommend Two Little Souls to crime fiction fans everywhere.
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Two Little Souls. 😊
I really liked this one. It was a little hard at first because of the babies, Thomas and Tabitha. Poor babies had to witness the death of the parents. Also, dressing the victims as dolls was creepy. I knew something was off with Foley the second he came into play! I was not expected the stolen identity, though. Im glad they got him in the end. I love that Tabitha and Thomas are getting fostered by Casey and Jericho just makes my heart happy.

When a new book comes out that features Casey White and her team it goes straight to the top of my reading pile. In this book Casey and her team are trying to find a serial killer who dresses up his victims as dolls and trying to find the killer of the parents of Thomas and Tabitha who are found drifting in a storm. Packed to the rafters with tension and suspense. A fast paced crime thriller which definitely got my heart racing. As usual great storytelling with wonderful characters. Another MUST READ from this very talented author and another breathtaking addition to this gripping and very addictive series. Loved It!!!!! Thanks to Netgalley for the Arc.
Just as it was beginning to look as though this series was coming to a close, along comes a case that may just be the best story yet. This is a real page-turner that had me reading long into the night. I would recommend that anyone new to this series begins at book one because there are a lot of spoilers in each subsequent story. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book
I have slipped into the abyss of this thriller for the day and finally came up for air after closing the final page. This will ensnare you from the first few gritty and tragic pages and have you in its grip until the end. Detective Casey White and company are called to the scene where a small raft has been found drifting in the water on the Outer Banks with two young children huddled together - Tabitha and Tommy Roth - ages 3 and 6. They are scared and in poor health, but even more disturbing is when Tommy tells them that he saw someone kill his mommy and daddy. The Marine Patrol unit finds the yacht drifting as well with a grisly scene on board where they find the bodies of Sara Roth and her husband inside the yacht dead from a gunshot wound. After their search of yacht, Casey realizes that Sara is a cop. When she contacts Sara's boss, she finds out that Sara has been hot on the trail of a deranged killer who kills young teen girls and poses them like dolls. Can you say freak show? The fear that this crazed killer is now loose in the Outer Banks is soon realized when they find their first body posed, dressed in vintage clothing with perfect makeup and hair, and even more disturbing she has been thoroughly cleansed down to a manicure and shaving her legs.
This one gave me the creeps but I still could not get enough of it. I started reading it at night, but I had to put it away and read it during the daylight hours. This was one disturbed individual. I love the character of Casey White. She is tenacious as a bulldog with a bone, smart and tough, but she also has a soft heart for children. Jericho will steal your heart as well. This dream team of cops, forensic technicians and specialists will get the job done. This was a spine chilling, terrifying police procedural mystery/thriller which read like an episode of Criminal Minds. I was still guessing until the very end of the book. Spangler knows how to hook you in and not let go. The characters are three dimensional and almost alive. I feel as if I know them personally. If you do not mind the eerie storytelling and enjoy a good mystery, you will enjoy this book. This is a great series. I highly recommend this book and this series.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Two Little Souls, the ninth novel to feature Detective Casey White of the Outer Banks Sheriff’s Office.
Casey and her partner, Jericho, find six year old Thomas and three year old Tabitha floating on a raft. The children are traumatised having witnessed their parents being murdered so Casey scours the coast until she finds a boat with two bodies. She is stunned to learn that Sarah Roth was an NYPD detective hunting a serial killer who dresses his victims like dolls and even more stunned when a similar victim is found on the Outer Banks.
I thoroughly enjoyed Two Little Souls, which is another action packed read with a big twist. It is mostly told from Casey’s point of view with the odd chapter from the victims to explain how they meet their death. This allows for an immersive read and it works as I got totally caught up in the story and read it in one sitting.
The novel has a bit of everything and strikes a good balance between the investigation and the personal. There are plenty of developments and action in the investigation that keep the reader turning the pages. I guessed the perpetrator’s identity early on, so some of the twists maybe didn’t have the impact they might have had, but there’s still the action, whether it’s more bodies or missing persons or the final confrontation scenes it’s entertaining and, at times, exciting. As a counterbalance Casey and Jericho are still getting ready to follow her long lost daughter,Tracy, and her partner, Nichelle, to Philadelphia, but there are mixed feelings and perhaps misgivings about it. It’s a dilemma. Then there are the orphaned Thomas and Tabitha, who will tug at your heartstrings, just as they tug at Casey’s.
Two Little Souls is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Detective Casey White discovers two small children on an adrift boat on the ocean. They say little except that their parents have been killed. Soon after, Casey locates the parents' boat and two dead bodies. The mother was a cop and was fleeing to save her family from her latest serial killer case... Two Little Souls is the 9th detective and crime thriller book to feature Casey White, her team and family. This case is hugely emotive due to the involvement of two small children. They witnessed their parents' murders and were then almost killed themselves as they floated on a dangerous sea. Casey is also deeply affected by the case as it is a fellow detective who has been targeted. The forensic information is quite unpleasantly detailed and the characters also have a revulsion at what they experience. Most of the book is written from Casey's first person viewpoint but there are some chapters which show the victim and killer interacting. This increases the tension as we anticipate another murder. I had no idea on the identity of the killer and was anxiously waiting for Casey to piece together the clues and catch them. The writing is fast paced, with short chapters so you are tempted to read just one (or two!) more at each sitting! On a personal level, Casey made a big decision in the last book and the team seem ready to split and move according to their hearts. But this is not without doubts and soul searching, especially as the team is so strong together. Two Little Souls is a tense detective thriller.
Two Little Souls (Detective Casey White Book 9) by B.R. Spangler starts when two children are found huddled together on a tiny raft and shivering in the ocean wind. Tommy whispers, “We saw them kill Mommy and Daddy.” Detective Casey White’s heart shatters when she finds Tabitha and Tommy Roth, just three and six years old, drifting alone on a raft off the coast of the Outer Banks. The children witnessed the murder of their own parents before escaping on a life raft. Casey promises to fight for justice for them.
It's a bit sad when young children are involved in the mystery. My heart breaks for what they saw and that they are alone now without their parents.
I loved the line about one of the characters leaving the past in the past in order to see her future. But, for some reason, the dialogue between the characters seemed stilted. It didn’t feel as if it flowed in a natural rhythm.
One character's true identity was a chocker (can't say as it will give away the culprit and plot!)
I hope to see more of Thomas and Tabitha in future books, and I am looking forward to more in this series. It has just the right amount of drama, mystery, police procedural, and a tiny hint of romance. The story held my interest throughout. I like these characters and the story is written well.
Two little souls was chilling, unique, and another fantastic addition to the Detective Casey White series!
Casey and Jericho find a life raft floating in the outer banks, and discover two children inside. Tabitha and Timothy were able to escape on the life raft after witnessing their parents murder on their yacht. As Casey delves deeper into the case, the missing yacht is found and the parents bodies are discovered on board. What she discovered chills her to the bone…. The woman was Detective Sara Roth out of NY. They soon realize a serial killer may have traveled aboard with them and starting a new spree in the outer banks.
I’ve followed this series from the beginning, and each new story is unique and twisted! Spangler comes up with great plot lines and keeps the tension throughout the whole story. As someone who immediately reads each new book, I felt there was a little too much back story retelling, but it’s great for someone if they are jumping into the middle of the series. Highly recommend reading these in order tho to get the full history of characters and their connections! Can’t wait to hear what happens next with timothy and tabitha, and what the next crazy serial killer story will be!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback!
I hope I never witness a murder. I think I would not ever recover from that. I can not imagine how it must be for two small children to see the two most important people in their life being killed before their eyes. On the other hand they also say that children bounce back more easily when, of course, they are given the right care and lots of love in a safe environment. I have the feeling Tommy and Tabitha will recover from this ordeal.
There are different kinds of killers. The one Casey and her team have to catch is, sadly, a very disturbed but at the same time a very cocky one. Once again a devastating event from the past had influenced an innocent person's sanity, driving them to act out these despicable murders.
The place of murderers is behind bars without a doubt, but it's only them who are punished. The ones who lie at the root of the problem are often not in the picture anymore.
Casey has a vicious killer to catch, but there are quite a few things happening in her personal life too. There are things that worry her, but she has things to look forward to as well.
I enjoyed this story a lot. I loved seeing those familiar characters visiting me again and I was flabbergasted by the killer's sang froid. 5 stars
Once again Spangler draws the reader in from the first page of the latest installment of the Detective Casey White series. Two Little Souls refers to the the two young children that Casey and Jericho rescue from the ocean, who witnessed the murder of their parents. Casey has a serial killer to deal with in this fast-paced police procedural. And while Spangler is outstanding in his detailed settings and descriptive tales of action, he is also an expert at building characters that the reader cares about. I can’t wait to see what is in store for Casey and Jericho, as well as Tracy and Nichelle.
While this is the ninth in the series, a new reader will quickly understand Casey’s backstory. I would recommend that new readers go back to the beginning of the series just for the enjoyment of seeing all of the nuances develop and lead to yet another action-filled chapter in Casey’s life. Those readers who enjoy a good, sometimes gory detective series will certainly enjoy this series. It’s a well written, well paced series.
Thanks to the author, NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this fantastic digital ARC!
When you are part of a blog tour you know that you are requested to post your review on certain date. This means having read the book and have the blog post ready. Life happens and sometimes even the best scheduling can fail so yesterday I was at the beggin the novel and wrote asking to postpone my post as I didn’t know If I was going to be ready. I erred on the side of caution because this novel is high on one-more-chapter-factor and sleep-deprivation-cause, and this means that I ended tonight. It’s not the best novel to read at night time as it’s a tense and gripping story featuring a terrifying killer and some very moving moments. It’s fast paced and there’s plenty of surprising twists. The last one was really big and I didn’t see it coming. I was glad to catch up with Casey, Jericho and the cast of characters. I liked how they related to the traumatized children and how they flighted to catch the killer. Another excellent story that I strongly recommend. I can’t wait to read the next one as there’s a sort of cliff hanger and I’m very curious about the future novels. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Bookouture for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Explosive Tale But Make Sure You Read Book 8, Their Resting Place, First. Without revealing any actual details, all I'm going to say here is that this book picks up immediately after the prior book in this series - and because of that, you really need to make it a point to read that book first.
Here, our team has several problems to work through - both professionally and personally. The case they find themselves involved in is even more time sensitive than most of their prior cases, and yet the team's personal priorities are also in a state of flux. Spangler manages both sides of the police procedural format masterfully here, combining both to excellent effect to create quite possibly one of the best complete books of this series to date.
Overall truly a compelling tale that won't quite leave you with that "I NEED THE NEXT BOOK RIGHT THIS SECOND" feeling from the prior book, but will still leave you satisfied and waiting anxiously for the next book to come out anyway, as you want to learn what happens next in the lives of our investigators. Very much recommended.

This book starts with the same intensity that book 8 finished with. I was hooked from start to finish and really didn't want to put it down. I cannot wait to read the next book in this brilliant series.
Wow, what a book!! I swear this series just gets better and better. You can read this book as a standalone but it is better to read them in order :) Because, why would you deprive yourself of a chance to get to know Casey White and her colleagues and friends?
When Casey and her fiance Jericho come across little Tommy and Tabitha, there is something very special about the pair of them that tugs at their heartstrings. However, they don't really have time to think about what that means exactly as they need to swing into action and find out who killed their parents.
As well as that, Casey and Jericho need to pack up their lives, as they will be moving to Philadelphia shortly and there is still some conflict about whether or not this is the correct course of action.
A thrilling read and I just loved the interactions that the two main characters had with these two small children. As well as this, however, there was something kinda creepy about the murderer in this book, in particular.
This is the ninth book in the series featuring Detective Casey White. Casey and her partner Jericho find themselves trying to solve a heartbreaking case. Two young children are found adrift in a small boat. They are traumatised and tell Casey that they had witnessed their parents being murdered on their boat. When Casey and Jericho finally locate the boat they find the two bodies. On identifying them Casey is shocked to learn that their mum is a detective with the NYPD and has been involved in the hunt for a serial killer who leaves the victims dressed as dolls. Are their killings connected to this case? When a body turns up at Outer Banks with all the hallmarks of this serial killer Casey realises that he has moved to her patch. The race is then on to find him before he strikes again and to ensure that the two traumatised children are safe. This was a gripping read with the tension building as the killer is revealed. An enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,
Book 8 left us with a teaser of what was to come in this latest installment of Detective Casey White. Casy and Jericho on a boat enjoying time on the water of the Outer Banks before they would say goodbye and move to Philly when they spot a boat drifting and discover two children, frightened, dehydrated and sunburnt and words that will have them back on the job.
As the story unfolds, you have those warning bells going off, an inkling about a certain character in the book and what has happened, but the story will have you gripped and turning the pages.
For me, this book, it was the key characters and their lives that took front and center and had me captivated to know what will be next for them. There is happiness and heartache and even the return of a much-loved team member, recovering from the devastation of a case that took his cousin who was like a sister. A lot of new beginnings for all.
Ufffff what a ride!!!! Two Little Souls has it all! Heartbreak, murder, intrigue… but was there the happy ending of catching the killer?!?
Two Little Souls kicks off where Their Resting Place left off, Casey and Jericho finding two siblings in a dinghy after their parents have been killed. What ensues is a race against time to find the killer before he finishes what he’s started. This New York killer has debunked to the Outer Banks and is playing his twisted game again.
I may have only read three of the nine in this series but I’m really enjoying these trips to the Outer Banks. I’m really looking forward to book 10 to see how the changes in the personal lives of these characters pan out!
Spangler has crafted a very tense crime thriller in Two Little Souls. My heart was pumping as the story reached its climax. The investigation really packed a punch but the final killer blow was one helluva punch.
This is another action-packed thriller which starts off with Casey and Jericho finding two small children floating on a raft - only to learn that they witnessed their parents' murder. The story follows not only the investigation into who killed the couple (and why), but also the happenings in Casey's personal life.
Casey learns that the mother is a detective from NYC who along with her partner was investigating a serial killer. Then a dead body turns up in the Outer Banks leading them to believe that the serial killer is there. There are some surprising twists along the way, both with the case and in Casey's personal life.
Casey and Jericho are nearly packed up for their move away from Outer Banks when they decide to take a short boat trip to have a final picnic. They find a dingy drifting and inside are two young children who tell them they saw their parents killed on their boat. The boat originated from New York. It is discovered that the mother was a police detective trying to hide due to an open case. What follows is a very strange case that leads to kidnappings and murder in Outer Banks connected to the New York case. A surprise twist of an ending. (Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy)
Two Little Souls is another great installment in the Detective Casey White series. Author B.R. Spangler gives us a heart wrenching story about two young children found adrift in the ocean. They say their mommy and daddy were killed. Can Casey and her team catch the killer before he strikes again? I have to say the ending was what I was hoping for. Can’t say much more then that without giving too much away. You need to read the book to find out what I mean :) Looking forward to reading the next book in the series! Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Two Little Souls is an addictive mystery thriller! The story starts immediately, as two small children are miraculously found alive floating on raft type flotation device! This book has exciting, emotional and disturbing events and situations! The "hows" and "wherefore's" dramatic and keep the reader guessing! The details were frequently verbose, making the storyline drag! The author researched the procedural components and described them in great detail, perhaps excessively!
Detective Casey White, book 9 begins with two children found adrift on a small boat. They say their parents have been killed and Casey begins the search for the bodies. I really liked the setting of the Outer Banks and the characterisation, which felt real. The pace was steady, building up at the end as the identity of the killer was revealed. I hope to read more bout Thomas and Tabitha in the next book. I am sure this will be a popular read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
Two small children adrift on the vast ocean. This is what Detective Casey and water Patrol Jericho see as they rescue the children from the dingy. But where are their parents. As she learns of the parents death, Casey vows to bring the killers to justice. If you like strong women detectives, crime and terror driven murder, this book is for you. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for an early copy. This review is my honest opinion.
Another great book in the Casey White series by B.R. Spangler. Casey and her team are racing to find a serial killer, before he can strike again and to save a young girl, who they think he has kidnapped. I did figure out one of the twist early on, but it didn’t take away how much i enjoyed this book. Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this arc.
