We all want to be happy. But, sometimes life gets in the way. People lose jobs. Spouses are unfaithful. Kids are hostile. Friends die. Houses burn down. It is a jungle out there. Unflappable is a book that helps readers not only survive, but embrace these ups and downs of life, and learn to stay centered and peaceful regardless of the circumstances. Drawing on the wisdom of the mystics and her NLP (neuro linguistic programming) training Michaels offers a sixstep process for happiness and serenity regardless of how crazy life gets. The Six Steps Discover the lay of the Look at the inner contours of your life. Decide where you are and where you want to go. Unflappable offers a unique route to a different brand of happinessone that doesn't depend on outside circumstances, and incorporates a model for conscious living that leads to serenity.
Not a particularly compelling writing style, but it serves to make a difficult concept relatable. As I was reminded how Life works, my stress around a particular issue seemed to release a bit. The issue is still there, but my ability to sit with it, rather than be consumed by it, has increased dramatically. Nothing has changed but my perspective, but the new one is a reflection of the way things are, not something I had to "talk myself into."
I picked up this book somewhere along the line and it languished on my Kindle for who knows how long. I find the notion of polar pairs that dominate our lives very interesting, as well as the idea that we travel from one to another continually through life. And that each pole has strengths and weaknesses that lead us from one to the other. However, the exercises in the 6 steps that are supposed to help one accept these polarities fell flat for me ... too much woo-woo, if you know what I mean. I'm glad I read it and find some of the concepts useful in accepting life as it is.
Unflappable is a must-read book for anyone looking to understand the “dance” of life. It answers fundamental questions that can lead us to clarity, inner peace, and true happiness. Ragini’s work is healing and timeless in its essence as it brings to light the paradox of life in a positive way.
It was a joy to have had a conversation with Ragini Michaels during a podcast interview! Her wisdom and presence reflected her commitment to changing lives.
As an avid reader of personal growth/self-help books I'm inspired to say that I found great value in this insightful and practical work. The reality is so many books in this category have a tendency to suggest that if one uses the author's recommended approach/tools, that their challenges will be resolved without an extensive amount of personal effort. While this "may" occur for some readers, in my experience the tools prescribed generally are not able to provide these types of fast-fix results. In "Unflappable," Ragini Michaels makes it clear that following her six step process "to staying happy, centered, [&] peaceful no matter what" is indeed something that one has to practice on a consistent basis to receive the maximum results. Her honesty and authenticity makes her a very credible teacher in my view, and because she has actually walked the spiritual path for decades, she has a great handle on what works and what doesn't work when it comes to the concept of self-improvement. As such, I highly recommend "Unflappable" as a personal and spiritual growth resource.
Ragini Michaels has written the book, Unflappable, for those of us who find the same themes reappearing in our lives and want to make a change so that we can actually be happier more of the time.
In her book, Ragini introduces the concept of interdependent polar pairs (IPPs) such as love and hate, peace and war, acceptance and rejection, success and failure.
IPPs are intrinsic to dualistic reality (for those who are asking themselves if they live in this reality, if you are reading this Blog post you are living in this dualistic reality!).
Most of us don't like to be on the "negative end" of these IPPs and we make the mistake of thinking that we can control or eradicate them. Yet, this is like eliminating many women's desire for chocolate--it's not going to happen!
This book actually offers some interesting insights. It definitely is helping me shift some of my thoughts and maybe some beliefs. So glad I picked it up.
