When a Mountain Explodes by Linda Bar teaches us what causes volcanic eruptions, and the three main types of volcanoes, early myths about volcanoes, and the environmental impact of eruptions, and takes a comprehensive look at the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington State. This is a high-low non fiction book on Volcanoes. The AR level is 3.8. It is high interest in that the pictures are interesting and colorful. The title is engaging and the information is very useful and since the 6th graders need to do reports on Volcanoes it helps the ELL students who don't have a strong command of the language.
