What a great book! It's set in Yosemite during the depression. A young man, Joseph, joins the Conservation Corps to make ends meet. He's an aspiring artist. However, much of his efforts are diverted trying to survive the camp bully while being pulled in several different directions by a mystery lady who crosses his paths.

I enjoyed learning about how the CCC developed Yosemite but the most intriguing part was seeing how he handled the bully and trying to figure out the mystery behind the mystery gal. Which, by the way kept me guessing until the last page! The story had twists and a very satisfying (non-cookie cutter) ending.

Seriously, read this book!
