Dating for Monster Hunters

Rate this book
Three dates to die for.
Clara Babcock’s not the dating type. Her job’s demanding, and she hasn’t had the best luck finding men who appreciate her particular skills. Killing monsters doesn’t make for great dinner conversation.
Small Her mother wants grandbabies to cuddle, and she’s not about to leave such an important task solely to her daughter.
Worse, her mother signed her up for an exclusive dating service…for humans. Probably because Clara’s kept her magic and her monster-hunting secret from her very human mother.
But the real kicker?
Her dates might want to kill her.

Dating for Monster Hunters features a matchmaking mom, a daughter with a magical secret, and three dates to die for. There might even be room for romance. Clara just has to give love a chance.

Warning! Gemma’s books contain steamy shenanigans and enough naughty words to make someone (not her) blush.

Another free e-book, I read it around Halloween because of the vibes.
This is a novella in a bigger universe so none of the urban fantasy is explained in it, besides the origin story of our FMC, which is a minus for me.
The plot is about our FMC being pressed to use a dating agency by her mother, which was supposed to be for humans, but all the dates end up being related to monsters.
The FMC speaks very casually, the action is too fast-paced, it needs more romance and we only get dual POV at the end despite being good.

Tim ordered a slice of chocolate cake to share after consulting me on my preferences. When it arrived, he carefully portioned it out into two slices, offering me the more generous piece. Since I had a bitch of a metabolism, I took it with a smile. Little did Tim know that I’d already eaten a snack before our dinner date so he wouldn’t be freaked out by the large amount of food I ate. I didn’t eat like a shifter or a werewolf, but I also didn’t eat like a twenty-nine-year-old human woman. More like a professional athlete…who was a guy and weighed fifty pounds more than me. All that speed and strength I had might be magical, but it still had to be fueled somehow.

The Good:
- The setting was in my hometown, so that's cool?

The Bad:
- I did not find the plot interesting
- Too long to be this boring
- The premise falls apart when you have your badass female protagonist have no say in her dating life because her mom says so. This felt like a really lazy way of having things happen without a strong reason

The Ugly:
- For smut, this wasn't smutty
- FMC is a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge pick me. I hated her

eh. good premise. not really worth it

I snagged this book during the latest stuff, your kindle day, and started reading it almost immediately, as the premise looked really good. But as I kept reading, it felt like I was reading a middle school maybe even high school fanfiction about a dating service. The language was juvenile, the plot, basically nonexistent in the style of of felt like a copout. I think this has potential to be a good story, or even a better series but this first book was not it. It only took me about 45 minutes to read the book but even that was too long.

Monster’s are Us!

An amazing author who shares feeling, emotions, and brings the characters to life! Her unique storytelling pulls you right in the middle of the action! You feel the same way as the characters as you entwine in their life’s adventures! The characters and adventures make you smile, laugh and fall in love! You root for a happy ending while silently urging them to reach the same conclusion as you!

pleasantly surprised! some of the writing style in this wasn’t my thing, a little too much of a sassy girl moment.

we do love when “he falls first”, but I was left wanting more from the dating agency and the stories behind Clara’s group of cohorts. this was free from a stuff your kindle day event.

Good but

So we don't really see any of the relationship between the characters. There's on mild sex scene and three conversations between the characters. Not even long or deep conversations. The entire relationship happens off the page and isn't even really summarized. The premise and world are great. But it's like the actual story I showed up to read didn't show up to be read.

This was ok at story but the author is over heated . The main character is cranky not quirky and superficial and not endearing or feisty. It had some good moments but not enough to read another of hers. Ease up on the fake drama and give us more feeling for and from the characters. The epilogue reads like the plot of the next book.

The premise was fun - a bunch of dates gone horrible awry. I liked the twist in the relationship between the main character and her mother. If you don't like backstory, skip the first chapter.

Straightforward, amusing romp. Yes, it was definitely steamy, but in an organic, not intrusive way--which is rare. I just really enjoyed it.

Dating for Monster Hunters

This was a fun read. Talk about bad dates...this story puts our heroine on 3 hell-ish dates. But don't worry she survived and found a love.

I ended up really enjoying this one! It was a quick and fun read about a monster hunter whose mom signs her up for a human dating service, only that doesn't end up working out the way she expected or her mom planned. I'm normally not a novella reader, but I really loved this one! I picked it up a while back during a stuff your kindle day, I think. I loved seeing Clara grow in the 119 pages we got and wish I could read more stories in this world. 😊 Will definitely be checking out other books by this author!

This is one of those books that I downloaded because it’s on Kobo Plus, and someone in a Facebook group suggested it. Thus, I had absolutely no idea what to expect, and started reading this with absolutely no expectations. And you know what? I kind of loved it. It was funny, quirky and a little off kilter. Plus, it’s adjacently related to a series by Cates that I’m looking forward to diving into… much like the very many, many, many books that are sitting in my TBR.

As someone who has never had to date (I met my SO young and we never actually dated), I have a bit of a fascination with the whole idea and practice of dating. Which meant that, reading about this monster hunter who is just trying to go on a few dates was particularly intriguing. I liked imagining anything and everything that could go wrong (because that was kind of the theme her if I’m being honest). Alright, everything that went wrong here was actually of a paranormal nature, but I can see how some of this would translate to real life situations and difficulties of dating.

From fairly on in the story, it was pretty obvious that Griffin was going to be the male love interest / perfect match up. And the fact that he feels it to, and accidentally sends her on disaster after disaster? Kind of hilarious. Yet, even with being able to predict just who the ultimate love interest is going to be, it was fun reading about how the couple ultimately got there. Plus, there’s a whole heap of interaction with the boss, and the mother… both of whom are also brilliant.

Even though this is a standalone novel, Dating for Monster Hunters does open up a whole new urban fantasy world to explore. I like that it’s got a Van Helsing / monster hunter spin. And that there are all sorts of monsters just introduced within this story – ones that you’ve heard of, some that you haven’t.
