If I was in grade school, my rating for this book would definitely be much higher! I wanted to read this book because I have become obsessed with groundhogs this summer (don’t judge me-Lol).

This is the second summer in a row that I’ve had a pet groundhog in my yard. I named him Chuck, since he was a woodchuck/groundhog. Well, “Chuck” just had five baby groundhogs 🤦🏻‍♀️. So now, I have six pet groundhogs in my yard…

I’ve been reading every article I can find on groundhogs, and unfortunately all the books that I’ve found are grade school level. Oh well, I’m still enjoying “Chuck” and the babies regardless.
Oh, and if you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been reading as much lately here on Goodreads, well now you have your answer. I’ve been busy with my groundhogs and all the other wildlife in my yard. Lol!

Educational and a good book for beginner readers. My 5 yr old son loved it! I looked for a book he could read to Dad, since we now have a huge groundhog living underneath our barn and Dad and son both have been asking me questions about the hog. I finally said, this would be a great lesson for both of you! So I got the book from our library and made them read it together. Mission accomplished! I think our hog is a girl and is about to have some baby hogs...great book...for a science lesson and reading lesson in one...loved it!

This is an interesting and informative book for beginning readers about groundhogs. I listened to the librarian at the elementary school where I work read this online (using the myON resource) to kindergarten classes as an example of a nonfiction book.

The narrative is short with large fonts and each page is accompanied by a colorful photograph. The students especially loved the pictures of the baby groundhogs.

Overall, it's a fast read, it has an appealing format, and is perfect for a short lesson.

Groundhogs is a nice book to share with early elementary age kids interested in animals and animal adaptions. The simple text makes it easy for students to understand and read independently. The full page photographs show groundhogs doing a variety of activities, and each complements the corresponding text well.

This timely title features beautiful color photographs of groundhogs and informs readers about their habits and food preferences. Even though this is an introductory text, I learned something from reading it. I had no idea that they weigh around 8 pounds.

So you know what my theory is? Is that if you want to know something about something, find a book about it. And I wanted to know about groundhogs, and there this one was!
This has really good facts and great pictures and plus it wasn't too hard. Just kind of.
I didn't know that groundhogs climb trees.
See? You learn something new every day!

I read this to Ashley & Mango. We have a woodchuck visiting our backyard. They both enjoy watching Wilhelmina as I have named her. Simple but very informative, I always feel sorry for them when we wake them up for the weather forecast.
