Spirit of Love: A Trinitarian Theology of Grace

Rate this book
Pentecostal theologian Amos Yong points readers toward an increased theological emphasis on God as love. In Spirit of Love , the first pneumatology of the divine spiritual gift of love, Yong constructs ecumenical and interdisciplinary theology of the Holy Spirit for the church universal. A distinctive contribution toward greater theological reflection on the triune God, Spirit of Love moves readers toward a more complete understanding of God as the source of divine love.

By holding the two biblical statements next to each other, that 'God is Love' and 'God is Spirit', Amos Young seeks to Show that the Spirit therefore also must be Love and not just Power, which has been heavily emphasised in pentecostal circles histirucally
A great examples of interdisciplinarian scholarship by Young, who utilises the areas of neurobiology, sociology, history and biblical discourse Analysis of Luke Paul and John to inform a trinitarian theology of grace and love from a pneumatological perspective.

It was dope, tbf

This is a most excellent exposition of Pentecostal Theology, rooting it in love. Although Pentecostals talk much about the power of the Spirit, they don't talk much about love. But, in Amos Yong's view, love is the true nature of the Spirit.

In this book, which is written for the academic or at least a person with a degree of theological training, Yong brings theology into dialogue with science, looks at how Pentecostalism understands the Spirit's gifts, and brings these conversations into conversation with Scripture.

It's an excellent tome, and one that helps me to reclaim my own Pentecostal roots.

This was a pretty good book. Fairly academic, but worth reading. I read about half of it before I had to return it to the library.

Yong examines the relationship between the Spirit and Love in Pentecostal theology. His is an interdisciplinary work on the pneumatological reality of love. Where there is love, there is the Spirit.
