Illustrated in black-and-white. When Papa Bear discovers that almost all of the antiques in the Grizzly mansion have been replaced with fakes, the Bear Detectives spring into action. Could it really be as simple as the butler did it?
Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
I loved reading these books when I was little. These great books for people of all ages. I will be reading more of these books. When I was little these books helped me to love reading.
These mystery books have been popular in many of the elementary schools I have worked in. One advantage that these books have is the short chapters for emerging readers and frqeuent pictures.
My daughter and I absolutely love these chapter books. We've enjoyed the picture books and the easy readers, now it's nice to get a little deeper into the characterizations and give the Bears some meatier stories. I like seeing the cubs a little bit older (they definitely seem older here) though I'd love to see Sister wear something else for a change....
This mystery is fun and keeps the child guessing (even if us bigger readers have no problem figuring it out). I liked how Papa was an integral part of the mystery, and for once he's not portrayed as a bumbling idiot, even if he is somewhat distracted and still not listening to the cubs.
Overall, I'd read more of the books in this series, just because this one is so fun.
If you like the classic characters in the Berenstain Bear books you will like these chapter books. This one is a great mystery that I enjoyed reading to my little ones at bed time. Just the right amount of suspense for young readers. Fun read!
A great detective reading that also covered getting over and facing your fears. Speaking up when something is not right and looking after your neighbors as you will do for family and friends.
In the book, Papa Bear tells Lady Grizzly that he doesn’t knows no one ( carpenters) who can copy an antique furniture by looking at a picture, but he never says he can’t.
