1. This is an information picture book. 2. One unique feature of this book is that it is really fun! There are random facts and poems about Michigan that you can perform with groups of people. One of the poems that stood out to me is "The Era of Logging because it is a 2 person poem (although it could be done with groups). One person says one line and the other person says the other. Sometimes, both people speak the same lines. I could totally see this in a classroom. 3. I think this is book would work for 4th and 5th graders because some of the vocabulary is specific to Michigan. I do think that younger grades would enjoy this as well if it was done as a read aloud. 4. Completed on 10-17-17
This book is informational. I loved the layout of this book with the fun text, colors, and pictures it really made learning about Michigan a lot easier than just reading a textbook. The amount of poetry kind of put me off since I am not too big into poetry but the way it was structured with the design made poetry even easier to read. I really think this book is a really good guide to how to be more creative in teaching, how even colors and text can change the level of interest students have in a subject. This book would be good if the students were learning about Michigan or about all fifty states. They could make their own type of book about their state following the same fun design of this book.
Genre: Poetry Grade Level: K-5 Unique Feature: This book is filled with different poems. Each one of them fun and informational ! Not only does this book serve as a great guide to poetry, but it also educates readers on the history and facts of Michigan! There are an abundance of activities teachers can utilize just from this one book.
Unique Feature: The format in the book in comparison to other informational texts was a very unique feature. IN addition to this, I loved the information that was provided throughout the book, it was not over one particular topic, but instead random facts about MI that you would not expect. This too was a unique feature of the book.
This is a pretty quirky book. My kids have enjoyed perusing it and I liked it pretty well too. Having done a lot of reading on Michigan, I can't say there was anything terribly new, but it was presented in a fun style and anything about MI rates high with me!
There's a music CD. Presumably a companion to the book. It's on the hold shelf for me now.
A whimsical tour of this great state! This is a fact filled, colorful, silly book for kids of all ages but especially for the nine or ten year old. Certainly worth a look see!
