"Settling her on the bench, Lans faced her as if he were ready to do battle. Searching her brilliant blue eyes, he found them enchanting, the color of an ocean on a sunny day. They sparkled with sunlight in the daytime and candlelight at night. Whatever time or condition of the day, they invited him to join in their fun. Her eyes exuded a warmth he did not have. His was an analytical mind. Good at figures, at problem solving, he lacked the depth of compassion he found in Andrea. When she invited him into her world, he experienced more of life. He felt complete, Realizing he needed her, he could not let her go this time. Andrea interrupted his thoughts. "Will you stay here after you graduate?" "I had thought about it, but now I'm not sure. I wasn't prepared for how I felt when I saw that Chico character sweep you into his arms. Since then I haven't been able to think about anything but how easy it would be to lose you again. If I stay here, I'll leave you vunerable to all those crazy American boys." Andrea glanced at Lans and laughed. "You must be joking." He studied her in complete seriousness.Did she feel what he was feeling, an inexpressable yearning that had built mysteriously inside him in all their years of trying to spend time together? A yearning he had crushed down until he thought it had gone away. "I know it's been alot of years in between, Andrea, and we haven't spent much more than a month together overall, but there were all those letter and all those years trying to get together when we were younger." "Yes, it seems I've known you all my life," Andrea spoke in little more than a whisper. I don't know what happened that changed things between us that weekend at Dartmouth. I thought you had changed." "I've always been the same, Lans. It was you who changed. It was like you were someone else. College had gone to your head and you were trying to fit in with all the kids from boarding schools. The boy who had loved the simple pleasures at the farm seemed to have died. I was heartbroken. And when I told you I had decided to go to Smith to be near you, you didn't say a thing. You left me thinking you couldn't have cared less." His heart panged as he thought how much he must have hurt her. "Since you were already commited, I didn't know how to tell you I wouldn't be there. Nothing worked out that weekend, and I didn't know how to deal with it, so I didn't." He turned to her again. "I'm sorry if I hurt you, Andrea. I didn't want to." "After this week, it doesn't hurt anymore." She smiled at him. "This week has erased all those sad memories." The tightness in his throat relaxed, and his heart flip-flopped. He took her in his hands. Then, fumbling into his pocket, he withdrew a small box and handed it to her. "They don't have fraternities here, so I don't have a pin to give you, but I want you to wear this promise ring. It's a promise that I'll come back to the States as soon as I graduate so we can spend time with each other and explore a future together. Are you willing to commit to that, Andrea? I'm in no position to offer you anything more than that right now, but I want you to know that you're still the only girl I've ever thought about spending my life with. I can't bear the thought of losing you before we have a chance to see it it can work. Will you accept it? It means no impetuous eloping with Chico or his like." "Oh there's only one like him. And there's only one like you. I'd be thrilled to wear your ring and explore a future together when you come home." Her eyes sparkled as he slipped the ring onto her finger. "I can't believe this is happening after all these years and in Paris, of all places. I always dreamed it would be at the farm." "Then you didn't give up on me these three and a half years?" "No, I tried to tell myself it was over, but something deep inside wouldn't let go." "I'm grateful," he said. Taking her in his arms and holding her close, he kissed the top of her forehead and nuzzled his face in her hair."
Meet The Characters:
Andrea Mulder: Andrea was a very free-spirited girl that turned into a very strong woman. Starved for family time with her parents, she turned to her grandparents for the constant love and affection she craved. Time on her grandparent's farm became her oasis.
Lans Mulder: I was very torn about my feelings for Lans. While he was a very loving husband and devoted to his kids and Andrea in most ways, he wasn't there for Andrea when she needed him most. I was appalled at his selfishness at times. Needless to say, he was not my idea of a storybook hero.
Evelyn Collins: Andrea's mother who later suffered from Altzheimer's. She was a socialite that traveled the world with her husband but, in the end, became a huge disruption to Andrea's life due to her disease.
Katharine Mulder: Lans mother and Andrea's best friend. Katharine was a very understanding and compassionate lady. She was there to help Andrea through some of the toughest times in her life.
Fritz and Laura Klinghof: Andrea's grandparents, Fritz and Laura, gave Andrea the "paternal love" she so desperately needed. Fritz's eyes always sparkled with life and Laura was always ready with the hugs Andrea longed for.
My Thoughts:
Andrea met Lans when both their parents met at the farm for a three week work session. Both their fathers were writing a book together and the farm offered the peace and relaxation they needed. Andrea dreaded having to entertain Lans but soon found herself enjoying his company. Both grew up missing time spent with their parents and soon realized they had alot in common. When the three weeks came to an end, it ended with a promise, a promise that they would see each other again. Through the course of several years they managed to keep in contact through letters and a few hap-hazard visits. One thing that was obvious throughout the entire book was the bond they shared and their love that would last a lifetime.
When Andrea's mother entered the first stages of Altzheimer's, life seemed to go on as normal as possible for her family but Evelyn soon progressed to the point that it took Andrea's ever waking moment to care for her. Lans had a very hard time dealing with the strain it put on their marriage but, through it all, love prevailed.
I really enjoyed this book. It had me in tears several times and there were several scenes I could have chosen as my favorite. However, I chose a happier scene to share. I'll let you save your tears for later when you read the book for yourself. It really opens the eyes of the reader about Altzheimer's, the way the disease progresses and the stress it has on the families involved. The only negative thing I can say is, although I am a Christian, I felt like the last quarter of the book went from being a novel to being a Bible study. It felt like the entire focus of the book shifted. Having said that, I am glad I read it. Field Of Daisies had me in tears three quarters of the way through, and I hope you will check it out for yourself.
Field Of Daisies is a story of love lost and found but, most importantly, it deals with Altzheimer's Disease and the effects it has, not only on the person with the disease, but also on all those around them. It can cause a great strain in families and sometimes rip families apart. The patient deals with memory loss, loss of alot of their normal mental functions, but also the loss of their dignity. Altzheimer's generally effects those 65 or older but there is younger onset Altzheimer's that can effect people in their 40's and 50's. For more information go to http://www.alz.org/
Field of Daisies is based on a true story of how Alzheimer's affects 3 generations in a family, how they cope with the disease, the impact it has on the family and their friends, a love story, a Spiritual journey that leads to hope and healing in God's Word.
Andrea Mulder, her husband Lans and their two children have a wonderful life that is about to change. They move closer to Andrea's parents so that Lans can work in the same office with her father. As they settle in their new home Lans is away more and more on business while Andrea cares for their home and children. Her mother tries to influence her in how she helps Lans in his business contacts and much more than Andrea wants.
Andrea's father dies suddenly leaving her mother alone and grieving. Now Lans is away on business even more since her father's death and their two children are away at college leaving Andrea alone to comfort her mother. Over time she notices changes in her mother that are alarming, symptoms of the dreaded disease Alzheimer that her great-grandparents and grandparents had when she was growing up now appear in her beloved mother. Her mother is difficult at the best at times, but Alzheimer's makes it even more challenging and takes a toll on her marriage when she moves in with them.
As the disease progresses, Andrea's marriage suffers greatly to the point that Lans moves out of the house leaving Andrea alone to care for her mother. Her mother does not want Andrea out of her sight and needs constant watching to keep her safe. Andrea seeks advice from her mother-in-law and together they seek medical help for her mother. After taking her to a facility to be tested and hopefully cured, Andrea is tested too at the suggestion of the doctor there. The test results bring shocking news to Andrea, news that she thought she would never hear.
Andrea misses her husband and his support but he does not want to come home as long as his mother-in-law is there. Over the next months Andrea remembers how she and Lans met, fell in love and married and longs for his return but does not see that ever happening now.
As Andrea and her mother return home with a plan things continue to fall apart. Not knowing where else to turn she returns to God, taking her on a Spiritual journey, searching God's Word for answers, comfort, hope, healing and direction. This however turns out to be the best “medicine” she could have sought, not only for how she cares for her mother but herself and her marriage as well.
This story is well written, sharing the difficult times caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease, the impact it has not only on the person it attacks but the family as well. But there is hope, which Andrea found in the Lord and His blessings on her life as well as her marriage.
My husband's cousin's mother suffered with Alzheimer's for years so I have seen first hand how it affects someone with it but the family as well.

It has long been my dream to share with readers insights garnered over my lifetime by creating stories that explore serious subjects, yet are a pleasure to read. I wrote Field of Daisies, the story of three generations of Alzheimer’s disease, to give hope to people like me who fear they may be next and to encourage caretakers and friends of Alzheimer's patients. Have you ever strolled through a field of daisies blowing in a gentle wind, white petals sparkling from the rays of the warming sun? Have you swung on a long rope over a creek and plunged into its deepest hole on a hot, sunny day? Have you climbed a ladder in a tall barn, taken a flying leap into space and landed on a soft bed of hay? Come meander with Andrea through the shaded woods, listen to the music of the creek's rushing water as it bounces merrily on its way. Smell the rich fragrance of new mown hay. Relive your first romance as Andrea meets Lans and introduces him to the delights of a beautiful farm in the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania. --author Barbara Hattemer
Lans and Andrea marry in a field of daisies Field of Daisies is a riveting story of hope. One thing I like about the writing is the background story interspersed within, as Andrea reminisces of pleasant times past that have meaning and formation of her life. She tells of meeting Lans as his family comes to visit while their fathers co-author a book together. She is endeared by his mother and establishes a long-lasting friendship between them. A mother when Andrea desperately needs one in that role to lean on and learn from; a confidante aiding her in continuing on. Difficulty arises as her own vibrant mother becomes ill, following the pattern of two generations before her, as her mind lapses and her personality changes. Once a kind, gentle, hospitable woman, she now is demanding, intolerant to change, suspicious, and groping for edges of reality. As Lans tries to maintain his stability as father and husband, he is often over-ridden by the challenges of his mother-in-law's needs. The forbearance needed begins separating their very lives as a family unit.
Rich in character and understanding, the story unfolds as Andrea leans on the Lord and steps forth for her own healing. None have been turned away who seek the Lord.
Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. --Psalm 119:111
***Thank you to author Barbara Hattemer for sending me a copy of Field of Daisies. This review was written in my own words. No other compensation was received.***
I loved the cover of this book and the romance story sounded like it would be great about Lans and Andrea meeting as young children and going on to become so much more then friends. But....the main story is about Alzheimer disease and Barbara tells it well because her family had it -generational. The farm is an important part of the family where the children met and where they married in a field of daisies, so romantic.. Andrea and Lans fathers were business men and always working and or gone on business trips. The families had wealth and all the things monies could buy but never enough "family time together". This was one of the things Lans and Andrea had in comon and it was a part of why their friendship was so important. They saw one another very little growing up yet a bond had been forged when they met at the farm and they never forgot one another. Growing into teens and then into the college years they knew there was a special bond between them and they would one day be together. Lans was a serious young man and Andrea was full of fun and happiness, they seem to balance each other. After marriage they had two children and lived the good life and when her father invited Lans to become a partner in his firm it looked like life could not get any better. They moved back to Pa and lived near the farm where they went with the children on many mini vacations where the family was together. but soon Andrea's father died and Lans had full run of business and was busier then ever. When Andrea found out her mother had alzheimers she spent more and more time helping her and less with her husband who was devastated she would choose her mother over him. I hope you will read and understand all that life entailed for this mother and daughter to walk this journey and how it affected the family. Andrea's faith waivered and she spent much time in fear that she too would catch this disease and knew her husband would not be there for her. I loved reading the scriptures about Blessings and healing, We need our Fathers guidance daily to walk through a journey such as this one.
Field of Daisies by Barbara Hattemer What first attracted me to this book was the cover as it is summer and my daisies are in bloom. When I read the synopsis I hoped this book would help with an aging parent dealing with the same illness. Seems every week we visit she forgets more things and it's frustrating. Lans has just talked to her father and he's offered him the VP of the company and after he retires the company would be totally his. Andrea likes the idea of moving from NY to PA where her grandparents had the farm. Love hearing of the field of daisies as they settle into their new life=her mother has organized parties for them to attend to get to know everybody and has even picked out their house. Andrea finds out more after her father dies and she realizes he had covered up much of his wife's lapses of memory. She also witnessed some of her grandparents illness when she spent time at the farm. The solution they come to is for her mother to move in with them and she does. Evelyn relies on Andrea more though. Over the present day Andrea goes back to when she was growing up at the farm-where she had first met Lars and their relationship started. Love hearing of all the travel and all the things they did the summer Lans was at the farm. Lans has given up on their marriage as Andrea doesn't have time for her husband or children-who are at college. Daisy chains and fireflies-what times they were ! Lan's mother Katherine comes to her rescue with not only praying with her but offering help in a new experimental treatment available. When Andrea finds out she's more at risk for sudden onset of the disease she reaches out to Katherine again and she in turn hopes her son Lans will be there for her...she again gets help from Katherine and from another angel who comes into their lives but will Lans return to her. Only their faith in God will prevail, lots of scriptures are quoted throughout the book relating to the problem. I received this book from The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) via the author in exchange for my honest review.
This is a beautiful story of a marriage, from their first meeting as teenagers on through becoming empty-nesters. Andrea and Lans are sure that nothing life might send their way could damage the strength of their bond. However, this is also the story of a horrible monster that threatens to destroy that marriage. It is not infidelity or substance abuse. The monster is Alzheimer’s.
Andrea is the sole-caregiver when the monster consumes her mother as it had other members of her family tree. The heart-breaking effects of the disease cause Andrea to question God and alienate her husband, Lans. He grows tired and angry with her placing her mother’s needs before his. In a world where Alzheimer’s and dementia affect so many families, this was a relevant and touching examination of the issues of dealing with a disease that steals the loved one’s personality and independence long before the physical body declines.
The characters are fully developed and the ravages of Alzheimer’s painfully described. I have had personal experience with round-the-clock caregiving and could easily feel Andrea’s emotional and physical exhaustion. The conflict she feels between her duty to her mother and the wishes of her husband compound her misery. The book is not all dreary, however, as the flashbacks to Andrea’s happy childhood and the love story of Andrea and Lans are interspersed throughout the book, and their joy and peace and hope balance the sense of doom the disease brings. Then comes the reminder that no matter what the problems and heartaches life brings, God is with us through them.
This book is highly recommended –to anyone. I received it from bookfun.org in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
The foundation for this story about Alzheimer’s and how it affects different lives in this family is laid in the first third of this novel. Andrea Mulder, mother of two and loving wife, has her life forever changed when her husband takes a job working for her dad. They move, and a new life begins as her mother is close enough to have a controlling influence on Andrea’s life.
A beautiful love story is woven into the memories Andrea recalls of how her and her husband fell in love and their relationship blossomed. Unfortunately their marriage takes a turn when her mother starts showing signs of Alzheimer’s, and then the disease progresses.
This is a book that requires a box of Kleenexes. If you or someone you know struggles with Alzheimer’s, this story not only shows how the disease affects families and the patient, but it also gives hope.
Andrea goes on a spiritual journey as she struggles through this storm in her life. I found this part of the book very insightful and quite a blessing for myself. I love how Barbara, the author, has taken the reader through this journey and allows us to experience the healing truths Andrea discovers in the Word.
This story will touch your life. It is not only a love story, but a testimony is weaved through it. God’s handy work is expressed and His blessings in the author’s life is shared. It is a very open, amazing story of truth.

Andrea is a young girl who adores spending time on her grandparent’s farm. It was here, that Andrea met Lans, a young man who would later become her husband. A Christian husband, beautiful children, a prominent position within her father’s place of business—it all seemed like a beautiful life. But when faced with caring for a family member with Alzheimer disease, Andrea watches her world come tumbling down around her. Barbara Hattemer does a wonderful job of keeping it real. Having experienced Alzheimer disease in her own family, she is able to share the pain, the anguish, the sadness, the frustration, and the many other emotions that go hand in hand with the disease. I personally have watched the decline Alzheimer disease has caused in my father, so I easily related to the many emotions shared within the text of the story. Field of Daisies is actually many stories within a story. Flashbacks to happier time frames within the main character’s life lightened the overall content that could easily become so heavy when you know the pain first hand. I sometimes had difficulty in reading the story knowing that my father may go through many of these advanced stages as the disease progresses. With that said, I felt that the flashbacks were so many in number that is sometimes broke the flow of the story. I think the story does an excellent job of portraying the fact that regardless of what we find ourselves up against, with prayer and a determination to seek God in our lives, we can overcome the challenges that life brings our way. In exchange for my honest review, I was provided a copy of this book by BookFun.org.
"Field of Daises" by Barbara Hattemer gets 5 stars, but if I could I would give it many more. It is fiction but based on the author's own life. Andrea and Lans Mulder had a perfect marriage. They were the best parents. But they both didn't have their parents in their childhood as much as they wanted because their parents were successful bussiness people and travel a lot. So they determined to be there for their children. This book is filled with heartaches but ends with joy. After Andrea's father's fatal heart attack , her mother shows signs of Alzheimer's disease. Andrea chooses to take care of her mother and Lans is feeling left out, their marriage starts to suffer. Can this marriage be restored? This story tells about Lans and Andra's courtship interwoven into the present. The author tells a good story while describing the symptoms of Alzheimer's. She also lets the reader know that Jesus cares and we only have to ask him. I couldn't read this book all in one setting as the relationship between Andrea and her grandparents was to much like my relationship with my grandma. Grandma was my best friend growing up and I miss her so much yet today even through it has been 11 years since she went to be with the Lord. But let me reassure you I loved this book and reccommend it to anyone that likes to read and anyone that is dealing with someone that has Alzheimer's. No, this book isn't a technical book that tells about the disease but just a story that might encourage and show someone that what they are facing is normal and that they are not alone.
Andrea lived her young years with very little attention from her parents. Her happiest years were spent at her Grandmother and Grandfather's farm. She had the freedom to run and play, ride her horse Dolly and grow up `spoiled' with love.
During a three week visit during her 14th year from a family friend of her fathers she met Lans. A love developed between them spending time in a field of daisies.
The younger years of Andrea's strengthened her character so that later she would be able to stay the course of continued time as a caregiver for her mother. Andrea had seen what Alzheimer's had done to her Grandfather, and how her mother had handled it, or not handled it. Now she was faced with how she was going to stay the course, but at what cost to her family.
Would this be the wedge that tears them apart? How would it affect her relationship with her children? Does she find that one special person who is there for her when she really needs it? And most of all, how does she deal with news about herself?
Barbara Hattemer captured my attention from the beginning to the end of this eventful story as she wove together three generations of a family with Alzheimers. I identified with the story and with Barbara as a similar situation has occurred in my family. We can always have HOPE.
I received a copy of the book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion.
Field of Daisies by Barbara Hattemer ***** Field of daisies is a great read. Although it is fiction it gave a great glimpse into the life of an Alzheimer’s patient. Andrea watched her beloved grandfather suffer from Alzheimer’s. She meets her husband Lans on her grandparent’s farm when she was only 14 years old. They fell in love years later and marry. Andrea and Lans had it all, a good strong Christian marriage, they were deeply in love. Raising two great kids and living a life many would envy. Andrea’s world came to a crashing halt when her mother developed Alzheimer’s. She had made a promise never to put her in a home and kept her word but the cost was great. Being her mother’s sole caregivers has taken a toll on her and has left her marriage in shambles. She and her mother in law attend a week long retreat at a Christian family camp. One thing she finds at camp is a deeper understanding of all that Christ did for her on the cross and the many ways He has blessed her. But can Andrea find peace and end her struggle with fear and worry. Will Lans and her find a way back to one another? The author Barbara Hattemer used her first hand knowledge of the pain and suffering Alzheimer does not only to the patient but to the family. Her real life experiences helped to bring the characters alive. I would recommend this book to every family dealing with this heartbreaking disease. I was blessed and grateful to receive a copy of this book by the Book Club Network.
Lans and Andrea meet when they are teens at Andrea's grandparents' farm. They become fast friends over the three weeks they spend there.
Both agree to keep in touch and do so over the years. Lans proposes to Andrea while they are in Paris and get married a short time later.
Over the years Andrea's mother starts to show signs of Alzheimer's disease and Andrea must make some difficult decisions regarding her care.
This is not only a story of romance but a look inside of a family faced with the dreaded disease that steals one's memory and dignity.
The author, Barbara Hattemer, takes it's reader into the fears and feelings associated with the one afflicted. She goes on to show the struggles of the family who must deal with the pain of watching them decline and make heartwrenching decisions.
Surprisingly, there are blessings to be found through all of this and Hattemer makes it clear how we can find and count them. I enjoyed this book much more than I ever thought possible thanks to the well written story and the hope and love conveyed.

Barbara Hattemer's "Field of Daisies" is an emotional book. Anyone who has faced the destructive degenerative disease of Alzheimer's will relate well to this book. Andrea and Lans meet while still teenagers. Although, they get off to a rocky start, they are able to renew their friendship and romance as young adults. After 20 years of blissful marriage, tradegy strikes. Torn between her husband and her mother, Andrea does not know how she can juggle everything. Promises made to each years ago stand in the way. Which promise will she keep? And what happens when she receives her own shocking news?
This is a story of hope, faith and determination. It pulls Andrea back to her faith. It showcases her determination. It gives hope that even in the worse of times, God is there with us. When we cannot walk any further, He will carry us. Alzheimers robs not only the stricken person of their life but the caregivers lives as well. It is a disease which takes hope, faith and determination to get through.

Field of Daisies by Barbara Hattemer, The book was a good love story with spiritual also. Andrea and Hans met when they were young. They both have parents that are pretty much busy with their own lives. The fathers get together at the family farm to write a book together. So they young people have lots of time to find things to do. Which this allows them to fall in love. There is a lot of running back and forth due to Lans is going to college. Lot of things that interrupt their relationship. They do end up married but still things interrupt their life together. Is their love for one another strong enough to keep them together. Alzheimer’s seems to run in the family. Andrea’s Great grand parents, grandparents and mother all have it. Now fear rises in her will she get it too. Will Andrea get back with God and let her fears go? This is a good book for those who have family with this disease. I have had it in my family and it is ruff. Without God I don’t think I could of handled it.
I received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion.
FIELD OF DAISIES by Barbara Hattemer is a great book that will touch you emotionally and spiritually. It's a love story of Andrea and Lans Mulder who met as teenagers on Andrea's family farm. They kept in touch, renewed their romance in Paris and was married in the field of daisies on the farm. The focus of this book is on Alzheimer's. Andrea saw what this disease did to her Grandfather and when her Mother started showing signs, it became a major problem in Andrea's life and marriage. For me, the key was Andrea started reading and researching her Bible, praying and opening up her heart to God. Andrea's fears were alleviated more when she attended a spiritual conference with her Mother-in-law. I recommend this book to anyone that's experiencing any illness or helping a family member or friend that's ill. Thank you, Barbara, for writing an encouraging book for anyone to read. FIELD OF DAISIES lifted my spirits. I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
I recently finished reading "Field of Daisies" by Barbara Hattemer. This book certainly pulled at my hartstrings. The one thing that was stamped on my heart after reading this is that there is always hope no matter what we are faced with. Jesus, pure and simple is that Hope. If we dig deep enough and get to really know God, he will shower us with blessings. He does love us and wants to bless us. This story is a reminder of that fact. This is truly a moving and emotional book that deals with some very sensitive issues. Although this story is fiction, I know that I could definetly relate to those issues. This story renewed my spirit and sense of hope and reminded me to "let go and let God." Thank you Barbara for writing such a comforting and inspiring story. A true reflection of God's love, mercy and bountiful blessings.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Field of Daisies by Barbara Hattemer. The book itself had a great storyline and I could definitely feel for the characters throughout. However, about three quarters of the way through she brings in a deep spiritual element that, in my opinion, not many Christ followers practice or take the time to learn about and as a result, miss so many blessings in their life. I felt as though this book was written just for me at this time in my life as God has been talking to me about this very issue from a variety of resources. Then, when I found out this was a fiction book with traces of truth throughout, it made it that much more meaningful. This book really spoke to me, in a very peaceful and positive way.
I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest opinion.
This is a very interesting story relating Lans and Andrea's romance, from their first meeting as teenagers, marriage in the field of daisies and then caring for her mother who has Alzheimer's. The story switches between present time and memories from the past. Because her mother caused problems for Andrea in the past, you feel like she is "putting on" with some of her actions now. I was amazed at Andrea's patience with her mother and wished her husband would have been more supportive. This book is very real to life and I would recommend it to others. I received this book from bookfun.org in return for my honest review.
I highly recommend this very moving book. A lot of scripture references on how to lean on God and how to overcome what you consider generational issues. The romance in the book is fictional however the author has had experience with Alzheimer's in her family and was told that she will have it. This story shows the very real strain that caring for an Alzheimer's parent can have on your marriage and on your family. The situations in the book are very authentic and real. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
Field of Daisies is an amazing love story. Well written because of Barbara's personal experience with this dreaded disease. I have family members who had and currently have Alzheimer's. It is a must read for anyone who has loved ones or friends suffering from Alzheimer's.The story teaches us that tragedy can make any relationship struggle no matter how strong or perfect it may be. But through Faith and Hope and not giving up Andrea and Lans managed to keep their lives and love for each other strong.
I received this book free from bookfun.org in return for my hones opinion and review.
This was a very emotional read. This story takes you through Andrea's life as she has to deal with severe illness with her family. It is about her relationship with her mother (honor your mother and father), her husband (leave and cleave, being a helpmeet), and ultimately surrender to Jesus. This book really brought about some interesting points about illness, especially our fear of it. And that God really does have a bountiful of blessings to shower upon us. I received this book from bookfun.org for my honest opinion.
Field of Daisies is a heart wrenching story of a family struggling to cope with the ramifications of Alzheimer’s. Before reading the story, I did not have a great knowledge of how Alzheimer’s affects not only the patient, but the family as well. The reader is captivated into the lives of the characters and the story throughout. I found myself angry at the injustices as well as rejoicing at the victories. I would definitely recommend this book. I received Field of Daisies from The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest opinion.
Field of Daises by Barbara Hattemer is an in-depth look into Alzheimer's and how it affected multiple generations of the main character's family. It really gave the book credibility to know that the author had first-hand family experience with the disease and was able to weave an interesting and poignant story on how to deal with it. To me this was an emotional book and it took me a while to finish it. I am glad I did and I really enjoyed how the main character grew in her faith and learned to rely on God and His blessings for families.
This a wonderful book and I like how the author was able to inform us that when someone is ill it not only effects the caregiver; especially if the caregiver is family, but the entire family is touch by it. One of the greatest things that I think this book conveys is for us to always trust in God and keep our hands in His unchanging hand.
I received a free copy of this book courtesy of TBCN for my honest review.
This book is inspiring and encouraging for anyone who has a family legacy of Alzheimer's disease. The portrayal of Alzheimer's patients is accurate and heartbreaking.
