Cinder Byrnes has been trying to lie, cheat, and steal his way into wizardry his entire life, and he's finally got the key to unlocking the power of magic. But first, he needs to stay one step ahead of the sorcerous crime lord that wants him dead. Writer Rich Douek and Artist Brett Barkley present an action-packed urban fantasy tale, set in a modern New York City where World War II was fought with magic.
Rich is an award-winning copywriter, and the creator of the independent comic series, Gutter Magic. He has worked on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Universe comics for IDW, and has published short stories in the New York Times-featured All We Ever Wanted anthology, for A Wave Blue World, as well as anthologies for Comixtribe and Red Stylo press. Additonally, he is a moderator of the Comics Experience Creator's Workshop, where he strives to help newer creators learn how to create their own comics and navigate the industry.
My sister Michelle worked for Comics Experience as Operations Manager and she was kind enough to send 3 volumes of Gutter Magic to me in Japan! I find it alluring and the coloring is especially appealing. Interesting characters and design! I’m excited to see more!
I started reading # 1 and it is very interesting to understand how to use narrative visuals elements, so read it if you want to know the content. There are no spoilers here! Also the illustration of every scene is very good. Enjoy.
I've definitely already read this. The first page looked familiar and the tossing of the spell bomb sealed it. It was allright, I didn't make it too many issues in before getting tired of it
