Isle of desire... Autumn Sinclair feels the stranger's eyes arrogantly raking her slender body -- igniting her innocent senses with wild, unfamiliar desire. But when their eyes meet, Autumn is shaken by the cool hostility that twists Brice Donovan's smile.
Brice damns himself for wanting his brother's widow. Even if he trusted the russet-haired beauty, to take her as his own would unleash the vicious jealousy of a woman who intended to have Brice for herself or destroy them all.
Yet as pulsing drums echo the ancient rhythms of rapture through warm Caribbean nights, Autumn and Brice are irresistibly drawn together. And in a blaze of glorious passion, they defy evil and treachery to answer the tender truth of their need, on the timeless shores of love.
Katherine Sutcliffe was born an only child in East Texas. After working for a time at an oil company and as a headhunter for a computer personnel company, Sutcliffe decided in 1982 to quit her job and attempt to write a novel. Three years later she sold her first book, Desire and Surrender to Avon Books. She works eight hours a day, five to seven months a year. Sutcliffe also attempts to find a single CD that will provide inspiration during the writing of each book. In the past, she has used the soundtrack to Somewhere in Time and Kitarō's Silk Road.
In 1995 and 1996, Sutcliffe worked as the Consultant Head Writer for the soap operas As The World Turns and Another World. Sutcliffe was offered the job after Bill Graham, who searched for writers for Proctor and Gamble, mentioned to his wife that they wanted to refocus the soap opera stories on romance. His wife, who loved Sutcliffe's book, insisted that he contact her. During her time as a soap opera writer, she concentrated on developing the six-month story lines, which the breakdown writers would then develop into dialogue and individual scenes for the show. During this time frame, Sutcliffe also made a guest appearance on Another World, playing herself. She resigned from her position after the networks began to insist that she move to New York City to be more accessible.
Her historical romance, Notorious, sold out its first printing in a mere four days.
Sutcliffe lives near Dallas, Texas. She met her husband, an English geologist, while they worked for the same oil company. They have three children, Bryan, Rachel, and Lauren. Sutcliffe also raises and shows Arabian horses.
Bah. This is just too silly to waste time going further. Like other reviewers, my experience with Sutcliffe is mixed, from rocking my world and the keeper shelf to trite nonsense like this. Moving on...
I have found that Katherine Sutcliffe is a TRUE "hit or miss" for me. Some of her books reside on my coveted "keeper" shelf...and others are immediately donated! Unfortunately this one is going in the donated pile!
This book is just plain silly and very strange. It takes place on a tropical island in the Carribean. Autumn had gone with her brother and sister-in-law in search of her "husband" who wed her and then disappeared. Autumn learns that her husband is dead, but his brother is very much alive! Brice Donovan convinces Autumn to pretend he is his dead brother...her husband. As they fight their desire for one another there are "evil" forces at work on the island. A woman named Annee Rose holds a mysterious power over Brice and there are a host of other "mysterious characters" with whom share a past with Brice and his family.
This was totally unlike anything I've read before...and in this case it wasn't a good thing. This was a strange and disjointed book that quite frankly didn't make a lot of sense. There was almost a "gothic or tribal" feeling to the island. Things are explained (sort of), but like the TV show LOST, I found myself thinking "just get off the island!" Frustrating!
Try Dream Fever or Darkling, I Listen....2 of my favorite Sutcliffe books!
This was an OK story but it just didn't sit well with me. So much was unclear and it was a bit shady in whether the hero slept with the other woman or not. Although, having said that it was only because he thought she had the cure to save Autumn.
Also, the hero was a bit weak and I'm not a fan of weak heroes. He seemed scared of Annee, the other woman and I just like my heroes to have no fear (unless of course, it is fear that the heroine will leave him, die, etc.) :)
I was hoping this one would be up with Fire in the Heart which is my absolutely favorite Katherine Sutcliffe. However, it didn't come close.
Books by Sutcliffe are hit or miss for me personally. This one a miss, that you could say that is an ok kinda read... Some spots are infuriating while others where ok or good...
