Síipuw is a thirteen-year-old Mahican girl training as a medicine woman and born with a hidden ability to speak to animals. She lives in an America never settled by Europeans, though her home is in the middle of Central Park in an empty New York City. Her world is turned upside-down when she defies her mentor and follows the song of an ancient stone knife. It calls to her, enticing her to take it up in defense of the land. Soon, she, a mysterious 21st century American boy, her best friend, and her African lion protector, must flee the city one step ahead of a mad and malevolent force bent on destruction. On the run, in a land for which none of them were prepared, Síipuw searches for the key to the mysteries of the knife before her world is remade.
