Becca Fitzpatrick grew up reading Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden with a flashlight under the covers. She graduated college with a degree in health, which she promptly abandoned for storytelling. When not writing, she's most likely prowling sale racks for reject shoes, running, or watching crime dramas on TV. She is the author of the bestselling HUSH, HUSH Saga. Her new book BLACK ICE arrives in bookstores everywhere October 7, 2014.
I know people going to hate me for saying this especially haters!
BECCA FITZPATRICK IS ONE OF MY FAV AUTHORS! Her skill writing is undeniable. If you guys hate me because i liked her, you know what i dont care! Ms Fitzpatrick filled my life with a lifetime happiness. I will always support you
Amazing, full of suspence and adventure. I loved every chapter of the series. Becca Fitzpatrick sure know's how to keep her readers on their toe's, and I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It captured my attention from the very first line, I hope Becca keeps up the great work!
I waited sooo long for the final book in the HUSH HUSH saga. And I was left disappointed. When ending something which you have followed for years, it's important you leave whit a goodbye you can handle. You don't have to agree whit it, or like it - but you can understand why it ended that way. Whit time you may even be satisfied by the outcome......BUT when you have dreaded the ending of a book series and the ending makes dread into despair.....a despair that no matter what you do, won't turn into any sort of comfort...WELL then I want to go on a killing spree!!
I knew how things were going to end, it was anticipated, it was how abruptly it ended that made me so f**king disappointed! Like the total book nerd that I am, the book and the characters becoms your friends (I know you know what I mean)....... SO when you'r not given a proper goodbye, then you get pissed as hell!
So now I will go and live my life pissed as hell becouse I got a clap on the shoulder instead of a freaking going-away-party!
I've read every single one of these books multiple times. I believe Patch's and Nora's romance will always be my favorite and Patch's attitude really draws me in. The last book brought me to tears and kept me in tears because I knew it was the end of the series. I like how Fitzpatrick was able to keep the book "clean" with not making it a prude of a book at the same time. I think the characters really evolved but didn't change in such a way that the books totally changed. The books blew my mind with surprises. Fitzpatrick does a good job of explaining her plot and it entices the reader. I love Patch and Nora so much. Scott and Vee also had a very good run. I really wish the series continued but I still love the four books enough.
Overall I'd give 3.5 stars as I mostly enjoyed it.
Hush Hush
I loved the first book in the series and fell in love with a fallen angel. Nora's character was good and I loved her friendship with Vee. Patch was great. 5 stars
Crescendo
I didn't like it as much as I wanted to. Both Nora and Patch became different characters. Overall it was more on the disappointing side. 2.5 stars.
Silence
Silence was very well written and kept me on an edge throughout. No one could be trusted and a lot of shocking revelations were made. 4.5 stars.
Finale
I wasn't really impressed with Finale as I felt somethings were rushed just to tie up some loose ends. 2.3 stars
Well this wasn’t for me, but I see many people liked it. I can only explain why I didn’t. I finished this series, how I'm not sure.... I started the book feeling like I had read it before. Not a good sign. The writing itself was fairly steady; there were a few good characters. Vee was fun. Patch was just the kind of sexy anti-hero I love. The idea behind the tale could have been amazing and some of the plot-lines were promising. I really liked the covers!
That's where it ended for me. Firstly it reminded me so much of twilight that I spent the whole school section rolling my eyes. I know it's a young adult book but it was more like reading a serialized photo love story from a teenage magazine. I’m not sure how the story was planned but it didn’t fit and parts of it felt like they were added in to draw out the books.
Nora's character was awful and that's what spoiled it in the main for me. Just not a nice girl, selfish, short sighted and annoying. She was fickle, untrusting, huffy and silly. She did all of the things that anyone with an ounce of intellect wouldn't have done. You could pre-empt her next silly move every step of the way. I love a strong female lead but she wasn’t strong she was just irritating and endangered everyone.
The story jumped around too much. Patch is good, Patch is bad, Patch is good, Patch is bad, we can’t tell each other anything or trust each other. In fact we can't trust friends, family, boyfriends or anyone. We also sulk when in return for my behavior, they do not trust me back. Naturally this makes me do sillier and more dangerous things to get at them. How one minute she is completely trusting and besotted by Patch, then the next minute she believes all of the bad about him, is on off dating someone else, is beyond me. They do not communicate and it cycles repetitively through the books to the point that it became a joke. Then there is the whole Scott is a bad/good/bad guy. I don’t want him but I will use him right to the end even when my best mate is crazy about him.
Vee being a Nephilim you could see coming but it was like watching an episode of EastEnders, not believable at all. When Scott dies at the end and you arrive at the "hastily tie up the loose ends" chapter Vee is marrying a normal guy who she will watch grow old... but she will never stop loving Scott… who never stopped loving drippy Nora and died for her… not Vee. If I hear the phrase memory wipe or amnesia again I will not be responsible for my actions. For a series of four books the end felt hurried and overly dramatic. Nora’s perfect ending was strained further by the tenuous “oh by the way your arch nemesis sister died last week” and the half happiness of Vee who I liked best of all the characters.
I could see this appealing to younger teenagers (Sweetvalley High) those who only like puerile romance books and some twilight type fans but if you want characters with depth and a strong storyline I would advise you look elsewhere. I think as a writer Becca has promise, also good ideas and imagination but she needs to stop her stories from jumping around. She needs to make her characters stronger, less annoying whiney victims and more believable. She needs to stop the silly character turnarounds and really think about the endings. Please don’t tie it up neatly in a final chapter like that; it needs to build steadily to be believable.
Sorry Becca and fans but life would be boring if we all liked the same things ha ha
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Giving it 3 stars because while it didn't fall into my great expectations the story line had potential. Also, I did finish the books; unlike when I tried to read 50 Shades of Grey. BLEHCK!
I chose to read the Hush Hush Saga because of the good reviews it received and well I wanted to try something new. Plus, I was deathly ill and bored out of my mind laying in bed trying not to drown in my own snot. {You're welcome for that mental picture. :P} Hush Hush was definitely not what I was expecting. While the story is intriguing in some parts and totally infuriating in others. The story leaves you wanting some depth. The characters are OK but the story washes them out in most spots giving it that twilight feel that I am not fond off. Character plots do seem to take unexpected twists but they are done awkwardly and not at all as surprising as they should be.
Patch is an infuriating fallen angel who has an emotional roller coaster of issues I can't even begin to explain. The whole story line paints him as this deeply mysterious character that you are DYING to figure out but it drags on for far too long. I found it hard to trust him at all in the ENTIRE series. I had not one moment of trust for his character he is just so flaky. Deep into the third book your are still left wondering how he ties in to everything. May I please also comment on his name what is up with that? Nora is supposed to be a smart girl with big dreams but comes across as an air head with her incessant need of Patch. Her relationship issues seem to outweigh her real problems like I don't know, dealing with the fact she is... spoilers my dear, spoilers. Her aspirations and dreams just kind of floated away the moment he entered her life. Don't even get me started on her best friend Vee who is portrayed as a food addicted, boy crazy, fat ass. Not to mention her horrible luck with boys. Throughout the book you just want to shake Nora into reality and get as far away from Patch and punch Vee in the face. It is just too much of a mess and not enough satisfaction for it.
The other thing that bothered me beyond reason was the "Love" Patch and Nora supposedly felt for each other. It was overdone and not smooth in its transition. They went from mystery strangers to I would die for you in record time and Nora's I need patch or I am gonna die made me roll my eyes more than feel any sympathy or pity for her. Not to mention spoilers of which I can't post. He is BAD BAD BAD and she just semi blindly trusts him.
As I finished the first book it seemed odd to me that there was 3 more books since the first book finished off like a standalone. There was no cliffhanger even though there was some deep dark secrets left unanswered it was nothing too extreme. the prologue to the second book for instance would have made a great last chapter to the first book. As I read on I realized that much of the first books story could have been omitted entirely.
Still something about the story line kept me coming back. Call me a glutton for punishment or insanely curious. As I read on I realized this "Saga" had so much potential but it was all wasted away by mediocre writing and bad editing. I can tell that the author just wrote without really paying attention to where she wanted this story to go. She dragged on this series and just added and added to a story that frankly didn't need all that much with some proper editing and better thought process.
After book 3 it seemed the author was just looking for a way to extend the story line which could have ended at book 3. In Fact this Saga could have been made into a trilogy with some epic editing. The story line continued in book 4 was good and almost shoved all the first 3 books in there making it seem like it was more of a stand alone than an ending to a series. Wish I would have known that before. The story ends with a bang that wasn't as easily predicted as I imagined it would be. Though some elements you just saw coming. All in all I don't highly recommend the book unless like me you are out sick for the week and extremely bored. I did notice however how much better the author's writing became as the books dragged on so I wouldn't be totally against reading her new book due out sometime this year titled Black Ice.
As I often say with this books, "Great Idea. Poor Execution.".
It's not my intent to put Becca Fitzpatrick down. But there are a few things I want to say. I found that this series was very redundant. Hush, hush should have been just that; hush, hush. It had no need to become a series I thought it was a great book but it deteriorated and lost its uniqueness, conforming to gold-mining intents as soon as the second book came out. It seemed like the last three books were simply page-fillers, losing the ability to tell a smooth-flowing story. Crescendo, fair enough, was the twist in the story, but it was quite the leap! So Nora's dad really wasn't her dad (again) and she was really half-sisters with her nemesis? sounds like fishing for a story to me. And then Silence, this one was tough. Three syllables: Am-Ne-Sia (well that might be 4, but I'm not sure). Bad move. Probably the worst thing that could have been done. This should only be done at the beginning of a story, when the reader is discovering the hero/heroine's identity along with them, not when we already know all the details!!! Redundancy in it's prime. And the last book, Finale... Again, I'm sorry, but it was very repetitive. Every time Nora would experience something, well obviously, it would be explained, which is fine, but then, woops, someone would walk in, whether it's Patch or Scott or whoever, and she would have to explain what happened to bring them up to speed on everything that ever happens, at such great length, it was painful! And this book was so dramatic, it was like a soap opera. After every scene, you could bet there would be some dramatic and solid statement at the end of it! And once again a massive leap: Nora's best friend is also nephilim... The story would have been better if it was explored how Vee and Nora would deal with the change... Anyways... Hush, hush was magnificent, bumping my review up to 2 stars, without it, this series would be only worth one meagre star.
Hmmm how to start this review.. I've read a lot of mixed reviews on this series, you either hate it or you love it. The series itself was an easy read, Crescendo and Silence being the fastest read for me. For me, Hush, Hush was a book i picked up and ended up finishing because, simply put i needed to know what happened. But, the entire series lacks depth. Nora, the main protagonist in the series was a cliché. The plot of the novel literally had me going, "ugh. How stupid can she be?" Most of the things that occured in the novel were things that you could call from a mile away. The way Becca Fitzpatrick wrote the book felt as though she was in a hurry, for example she would go from saturday night saying nora had to take care of this or that then all of a sudden on the next page it's morning and she just woke up and her to do list for las night is never talked about again. I think this series could have had potential if it was written better, if there was more detail put into the actual story because it actually felt like i was reading a rough draft of a novel also, if Nora actually matured throughout the series that would've been her saving grace. Unfortunately, none of those things happened. The one thing that i did like from this series was Patch but even he wasn't enough to save my ratings for this. The entire series felt like twilight without the hype, i was actually hoping the series would get better with each book but it turned out to be such a let down.
I'll keep this short and sweet. The entire Hush, Hush, series was simply mind-blowing to me. Once I picked the first book up I just couldn't put it down until the very end. The same thing with the other three books. The whole time I read each of them I was on the edge of my seat; always wondering what's going to happen next. It was one of the best series that I've ever read. Overall, I believe that each book had excellent executed story-lines with good characters. It was just awesome reads. What more can you ask for in books like these, I wonder? It had everything I look for in books. Amazing work, Becca. 5 out of 5!
This book is one of the best books I have read in a very long time. So much happening not a single dull moment. The book took me four days to read but i could definitely read it again and again there is no words to describe what I felt when I finished the last page.... The twist,I was hurt there wasn't anymore to the story, and I wish she could make this go on for like 50 more books. I love love love this saga and I have been telling EVERYONE to read it.
Its a paranormal romance with a hint of crime, thrill seeking war. Fallen angels and the Nephilim fight against who will be on top. Nora getting caught up in the sick twisted fight with Patch by her side keeping her safe.
I really enjoyed it, I read the first 3 books in a row and kept myself from reading the last one (for a longer time that it's acceptable) out of fear of the outcome and I'm happy to say I rather liked the ending. Each book has a different flavour and makes you feel entirely different, and it's always a pleasure to be part of the roller coaster of feelings a writer has to offer.
This was a fun and easy read that I don't regret. However these books had almost no depth what so ever. They were very predictable, mixes of twilight and fallen, except not nearly as good. Still enjoyed them but wouldn't place them in a must read category.
Re-read the series. I know there's a lot of hate around the 'Hush, Hush Saga', but for me it's a bit like comfort food. You know it isn't good for you, but you don't have to think about it and in the end it makes you smile.
so glad i decided to re-read this one! OMG..Can I get my own Patch?! HA
every time he's around Nora my heart turns into mushy *-*. probably 'kinda' exception for book 2 tho, mostly I feel like to punch something. if only the author gives us more of his POV.. anyway, idk if it's been funny all along but the second time reading this series, Vee is so hilarious. Will keep this short, this is my new favorite YA fantasy atm, don't know if there will be any hero that will beat Patch (Warner baby you're still my fave too) but for now he's on top.
I loved all four books!! The adventure was so exciting and the love story as well.
CONTAINS SPOILERS: ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------ HUSH HUSH: Searching for books that had angels in the stories online, I came across the series Hush Hush by Becca FitzPatrick. I’m so glad I did because this story is fantastic! The first book was awesome!! I love the character Nora and her best friend Vee. I liked how we get to read that the characters are in high school and a mysterious new boy comes to the school The mysterious new boy is named Patch. The science teacher partners up Patch and Nora for a science project, and Nora really doesn’t want too. Patch isn’t to interested in the project, so Nora gets annoyed. When she goes and looks for Patch from the beginning she felt something strange mysterious about him. As the story goes on Nora starts to experiment strange situations and even at one point, she thinks she is going crazy and has been developing a crush on Patch. Patch reveals that he used to be an angel, but he can’t feel emotions like Nora can because she is human. Patch also has developed a crush on Nora. Patch is supposed to kill Nora in order to become human, it’s Nora because she has a birth mark. Patch can’t go through with it and two characters come in and tries to kill Nora. Nora tries all she can to stay alive, Patch is fighting to keep Nora as well, Vee is so confused and has no idea what’s going on! The fight scenes, the romance, everything is so awesome!!! Nora leaves and Patch becomes Nora’s guardian angel! I am excited to continue to read the story. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Crescendo: The second book was awesome! I loved how we started with Patch and Nora being boyfriend and girlfriend and they are at the amusement park having fun, Nora has to do school work, etc. Patch is hanging out with his friend. When Nora sees who killed her father (I won’t say how. Read the book. :) ) she notices the hat the person has on and she 100% believes it’s Patch, with the information she got, she breaks up with Patch and says that she doesn’t want him to be her guardian angel. While they are broken up Patch’s friend is there and Nora trusts him. While Patch and Nora are broken you can totally feel the tension and love they feel for one another and it’s so exciting! Patch is trying to figure out who actually killed Nora’s father and is trying to figure out, why they put the blame on him. Later on we find out that it was Patch’s friend that killed Nora’s father and the people that has been look for Patch has taken Nora. Now Patch has to look and rescue Nora. Nora discovers who her real dad is, and the guy that is dead and took care of her to Nora that’s her real father! I am excited to continue to read the story. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Silence: The third book was awesome! I liked how we got to start from Patch’s P.O.V (point of view) we started from Nora’s P.O.V in the first two books. I liked how Patch is so determined to find Nora and rescue her. He is so angry that his so called friend betrayed him and Nora is paying the price. As Patch goes on his journey and finds Nora, he is shocked and hurt to see that Nora has forgotten who he is and their love. Nora on the other hand feels and knows deep down that she remembers this boy somewhere and she gets all nervous, etc. around him. I loved the scene where Patched saved her. When he took her to his place, Nora remembered everything and now Nora can’t feel anymore emotions because she isn’t human anymore. Patch and Nora will work together and I hope they end up together. I am excited to continue to read the story. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Finale: The fourth book was amazing!! I loved how we got to continue with journey with Nora, Patch and all of the other characters. I love how Nora and the others are working together to win the fight. I love how Nora gains new powers when she drinks the positions. I liked how Vee was always at her side and it’s hard for Nora to tell Vee what’s going on. I liked how the characters had to travel through hell and Vee got powers, etc. I’m glad Vee got married and Patch and Nora ended up together! Everything that happened in this story was so amazing! This story is amazing and I’m glad Becca FitzPatrick wrote it! I recommend reading the whole series! I hope this series gets adapted into movies or a series one day.
Do you have a favorite book that you don't like to tell people about? Almost like it's your little secret and you get to enjoy it and keep it all to yourself? I know you all have a book like that, so don't pretend not to. I almost didn't put this on here because that is what these books are to me; my little secret that I revel in and enjoy in private. However, the Hush Hush saga, by Becca Fitzpatrick, is too good to not be shared.
It sweeps you away into Coldwater, Maine, where fallen angels have come to reside. Patch, an especially mysterious and dangerous fallen angel, has taken a special interest in a girl named Nora. The series follows their story as Nora ignores her internal warnings to stay away from Patch, and slowly finds out more and more about him and the world he comes from. She gets mixed up in the dangers revolving around Patch and nearly loses her life on multiple occasions, but it's not enough to keep her from being sucked back into Patch's world. They even go so far as to erase her memories so she'll forget all about fallen angels and nephilim in an attempt to keep her safe. But nothing can erase the tie she feels to Patch, and emotions she can't explain pull her towards a boy she can't remember until her memory returns and she realizes it was Patch all along. The series ends with an epic battle between the nephilim and the fallen angels and, of course, some plot twists that you will never see coming.
This four book series has excitement, action, and romance dripping from almost every page. It doesn't matter how many times I've read it, I still get sucked in and can't put the book down. I would highly recommend this book for all ages. It does have some intimacy in it, but it's nothing that I would call inappropriate. So there you have it, I've outed my little secret. I hope you enjoy it half as much as I do, and don't forget to let me know what you think!
I have NEVER, ever wanted to get to the end of a series so bad. I could not wait to find out what happens. Page turner doesn't even begin to describe how gripping this series was. It consumed me and I was obsessed with all of it; the characters, the story, the paranormal...and so much more.
The angst and turmoil I felt was beyond worth it for such an epic story. I questioned every single character wondering who's a good guy or bad guy, wondering who's going to back stab who, wondering if it's a trap or if they have good intentions. The whole thing kept me on pins and needles the entire time. Everything about this was above my wildest expectations. I loved this series from beginning to end. Also, it's suitable for all ages which is a bonus in my opinion :-)
When I first read this book, I wasn't sure how to react. Becca Fitzpatrick is an extraordinary author. While encapsulated in the hush hush medium, it's hard not to get caught up with her use of language. I demote eating and sleeping to a secondary bases when her books are in my hands. Like any die-hard-fan I mourned the end of the series but I can't say that there is not a false subplot. When I read it I couldn't help but think that the pressure of ending something with such colossal fan base had some effect and i was left discontent.
The series as a whole averages out to 3 stars for me....I liked some books better than others and overall added it to my teenage trilogy of the moment list that I've been adding to....first Hunger Games, then Twilight Series (since I skipped it the first time around), now this....Nice to sit down and read through a book in a night or a day or two but it's not real gripping, thought provoking stuff. Sometimes, I really need that!
