Desert Trip by Barbara Steiner

Rate this book
Rocks that look like castles against the sky, quiet, broken only by the trill of a canyon wren; the cool, clear night alight with millions of stars--all the wonders of the desert canyonlands come vividly alive as a mother and daughter set out on their first backpacking trip together. Evocative watercolor paintings and a lyrical first-person narrative capture the magic of the desert in this unforgettable adventure in discovery.

Desert Trip was an informative read about a girl's trip to the desert. It included a lot of details and facts about desert plants. I especially liked the book illustrations, which were done in a watercolor-esque technique. On many of the pages, there were also small illustrations of what specific desert plants looked like. Overall, this would be an interesting read for a child interested in nature, hiking, and desert-life.

We go with a little girl and her mother as they enjoy a camping trip in the southwestern desert. The mother points out many of the desert plants and, particularly, one beautiful flower.
