I read this as a teenager in the 80's. I lived in a rural area didn't knowingly have any contact with other GLBT people. This book helped me feel connected. It also made clear to me other people's problems with homosexuality is just that... THEIR PROBLEM.

This is a good book to read for anyone who is gay or lesbian or just questioning their own sexuality. The stories in this book can help anyone dealing with the stress of learning about who they are in a better light. Although the book has its share of good and bad stories, it at least helps someone who feels isolated connect with others.

This book was written during a time when there was no internet around and connecting with other gay people was diffcult. The only method of communication was either by phone or by mail. This book was the central point for many ilves out there who felt alone and depressed because they could not connect with anyone else. Any reader who wished to talk with other people could simply write in and their letters would be forwarded to another person who felt isolated or wanted to connect with others.

I feel this book is still valid because the stories and feelings are still the same for anyone who feels different. It is simply a good way to show someone that they are not the only ones in the world suffering alone. This book helps connect others in ways that even if you can't talk with anyone else about what your going through, it at least, emotionally and mentally connects the reader to that person and helps them feel less alone.

A good collection of first-person accounts from teens in the '80s. Much more heavily weighted towards boys, unfortunately (probably about 2:1). And a lot of stories involved a significantly older "lover" (e.g., 16/32, 12(!)/24) with no critical reflections on the part of the publisher.

Interesting read. True coming out stories told by the teens themselves in the early 80's. This was about 5 years before myself, so the descriptions of society were familiar. I wonder how an updated version would be, how things are for teens coming out today.
