About this book:

“Natalia’s about to discover her place in the world…and it’s not following in her father’s footsteps.
After watching her father jump from one marriage to the next, Natalia has completely written off love. And when her father divorces his third wife—the only one who has been a mother to her—Natalia is ready to write him off too.
Needing a change of scenery, Natalia leaves her home in Spain and relocates with her stepmother to sun-soaked Florida. But she didn’t realize just how far a new school, a new culture, and a new lifestyle would push her out of her comfort zone.
One of her biggest surprises comes from Brian, a pastor’s son with an adorable smile, who loves God with a sincerity that astounds Natalia. She doesn’t want to fall for him, but she can’t seem to avoid him long enough to get him out of her min.
Love is the last thing Natalia wants. Even so, God has her right where she belongs.”

Series: It’s not officially part of a series, but it’s connected to “First Date” and “Starring Me”. To have the least amount of minor spoilers, I recommend to read them in this order: First Date, Starring Me, and then Right Where I Belong.

My personal Rating- Four Stars (and a half)

This may be my third time reading this novel, but, oh I still enjoyed it so much! Having this story be loosely based off the story of Ruth from the Bible was so neat and I truly adored all the faith content. There is so much of it, it’s refreshing and inspiring. I really liked both Natalia and Brian, he made me laugh a lot (even with some of his moping). I consider Krista McGee’s six books (published by Thomas Nelson) to be classics for the Christian Young Adult market and ones I highly recommend.

Too cute! The missionary parts were just beautiful. This was totally different from the other two connected books. Less humor and no skits or TV shows, but still heartfelt. It was super beautiful and seeing both characters learn to find their calling was touching. Loved it all 🥰. Sad to see this connected book line up end. But I’ll be moving on to Anomaly some day! This author isn’t done with me yet haha. Anyways….byeeeeee 😘 ✌🏽

Such a sweet story. This is absolutely squeaky clean. I loved the missions trip the students go on. Spencer…I can’t spoil but 👌🏻
Brian was amazing!! So sweet and understanding.
Natalia matured and learned so much. She definitely was a great encouragement.
The faith content was great. Seeing all of the previous characters was stunning. I wished there were more, but I still loved this so much. Definitely a favorite.

I feel like I just ate a giant chocolate cake and I don't even feel sick.

Krista McGee never ever disappoints (except one time) I absolutely love this book. It's amazing and cute and wholesome and wonderful and clean.
I love Natalie. I fell in love with Brian in third chapter of the book. Spencer was a jerk, but he changed and I appreciate that, seriously he did change. And he didn't get what he wanted even though he did change.
Addy is a good girl, like always, and Lexi was a blast. I love that Lexi remained single, but if I were to take the independence to say this, I don't doubt that our changed Spencer will have new eyes for this Christ-devoted girl.
Maureen wasn't my favorite, but I didn't mind her too much. She seemed slightly like a baby, but I didn't hold it against her.
I loved Jack and Carol. And Pastor Younger and his wife.
So yeah, that's was awesome.
Also, I'm glad that Oscar was willing to let Natalie try out teaching, even though he's an awful guy. Who would date him to be his 5th girlfriend/wife!?!

Overall, thank you to the person who prompted me to read this book and not push it aside. I think it was Lindsey from Books For Christian Girls, but I can't remember.
Thank you Krista for writing books!

Addy, Kara, and now, Natalia. Krista McGee, these three girls stole my heart! I felt like I was there with them, experiencing all of their troubles and trials. What’s more, I felt that I actually grew with these girls. I thought it was amazing how they were each at a different point in their relationship with God. Addy was a Christian, but didn’t like telling other people about her religion. Kara didn’t believe in God, but wanted to. Natalia was a Christian and just wanted to grow more and find her place.
Ahh. My heart goes out to poor Natalia! I don’t relate to her at all, but it’s terrible that she’s disillusioned about love because her dad is always divorcing his wives. And, I love her name by the way. It’s such a beautiful name. I also really enjoyed how she had such a heart to share her religion with others. It was interesting to see how the author wrote a story about a girl at that stage in her religion.
Poor Brian. Just for the record, it was interesting to read a book with a PK as one of the main characters. I’d never really considered what sort of problems that brings, but this book definitely made me think. He’s so low on self-esteem, and he can’t find the words to tell Natalia how he feels about her.
I love hearing about Spain, and it is now my new ambition to make a flan (and hopefully do it better than Calla and Nora). Also, I think it’s cool how both Natalia and Maureen are using their Spanish to try and bring people closer to God. To be honest, I just really loved the Spanish portions of this book, especially at the beginning in Spain.
I loved the mission trip, and hearing about the details. Mission work is so exciting to read about. I also really liked hearing how the characters changed throughout the course of the story. I loved the sense of community and belonging throughout the book, and I really did love this entire book.

From the first chapter I was captivated with this story and Natalia's struggle to find her place. A modern-day retelling of the biblical story of Ruth, I loved how the author dealt with the different issues so many teen girl deal with every day - messy families, tangled relationships, promises, growing as a Christian and, of course, boys. It did feel a bit preachy at times but overall was a beautiful story and one I'd recommend to teens who love a well-written coming-of-age story.

4.5 stars (rounded up to 5)

(Krista McGee's contemporary series: book 3)

I loved the previous two novels in this trilogy (First Date/Starring Me), so I was definitely expecting to enjoy this... And I did!

Natalia is a great character! She's so hungry to learn about Christianity, and I loved seeing her enthusiasm grow. I also liked that she's from Spain. I have a passion for Spanish, so it's always fun when Spanish phrases are sprinkled throughout a book, like in this one!

The mission trip was one of my favorite aspects, although I would've liked to see it featured more. I was also somewhat surprised the TV competition theme wasn't continued from previous books - although earlier characters DO make reappearances, which is great!

This book also puts more emphasis on potential dating relationships, but it fits the overall message, since Natalia is learning to trust boys/men after witnessing her father's failed relationships. And the story remains very clean, keeping with the style of the series!

Additional faith note: This is a loose retelling of Naomi/Ruth from the Bible. I spotted some clear parallels, but I'd love to reread this book at some point (along with the Bible story) to look for more!

I would highly recommend this entire series (First Date/Starring Me/Right Where I Belong) to teen girls looking for age appropriate books!

This book reminded me how good God is, and how He is always working in our lives. In reading this book it just reminded how important it is to always keep our eyes on God because His plan for us is greater than we could ever imagine. I fell in love with the characters in this book and their love for God. It makes me realize how important it is to speak out about my faith with my friends. Anyways, I loved this book a lot and definitely recommend it!

Updated Review 2022: God has a plan for each of our lives, but it's often not what we expect it to be. Natalia Lopez experiences this firsthand as she follows her stepmother to her hometown of Tampa, Florida, leaving Spain and the only home she's ever known to embark on a journey that will not only stretch her faith but challenge the plans she has made for herself. Surrounded by a new culture, Natalia is excited to learn more about God, but is she ready to hear where God is calling her and open her heart to the people He wants to include in her future?

Brian Younger is a pastor's kid with a heart for ministry, but he refuses to follow in his father's footsteps. Known as the class clown and used to feeling like the odd one out, Brian doubts his worth, especially when Natalia arrives in town. Will Brian allow God to be the leader, or will his jealousy and pride cloud what God is trying to do?

Every teenager, especially seniors, struggle to choose a career path or understand their identity as graduation looms near. From family pressure to college applications, it can be difficult to press into what the Lord has planned. While the Bible tells us to honor and obey our parents, it also says that the Lord is our highest authority; but, do we have the courage and faith to do what God is asking when it contradicts what others are saying?

“God puts us on paths that sometimes seem very dark and pointless. Sometimes it seems like there’s no way out. And a lot of people get upset at that, and so they go off his path and go off on their own.”
“But when they do that, they miss what is waiting for them at the end.” ~ Krista McGee

Right Where I Belong is a phenomenal book for young adults and teens. Inspired by the story of Ruth and with God's love and truth pouring through every page, it's more than a cute romance; it's a story of restoration and new beginnings. God wants to work in each of our lives, and when we give Him the chance, mountains will move and the impossible will be possible.

As I read Natalia and Brian's story, I felt convicted through each chapter. Doubting the Lord's call on my life and struggling as more doors are slammed in my face, this novel not only brought me out of a place of despair and defeat but re-centered my focus on the true source of joy and hope — Yeshua!

Krista McGee's writings continue to astound me. Her approach to faith and life is Biblical and inspiring. I cannot recommend these three books enough — especially if you're in high school and grappling with dating, the future, faith, and family. God has a plan for each of us and, if we allow Him to lead, He will take us to places we could only dream of going! Rich in wisdom and encouragement, I pray these books bless you as you navigate your faith and decide if you're going to follow God and live your life for Him or the world. As Flora says in Starring Me, "If you really want to know him, he'll answer you."

Review from 2016: Krista McGee, every time I pick up one of your books, I'm bewitched! You are an extraordinary writer and you're stories are absolutely amazing! I love how God is on every page and continually challenges me. I first read First Date two years ago and was hook, now I've read this one and I don't think I wanted it to stop. Please tell me you have more books coming out this year?!

Natalia Lopez is tired of her father's love them and leave them attitude. When he divorces his third wife, Natalia leaves Spain with her stepmother to move to Florida. She's got a lot to adjust to - a grieving stepmother, a Christian school, and boys who are interested in her. She has sworn off love and boys because of how her father treated the women he married, yet she's drawn to Brian, the pastor's son. As the two get to know each other, they find that they are both drawn to the other's love of God and sincere desire to be a witness for Him. Will Natalia allow God to work in her life?

This is the third book I've read by Krista MCGee and I really enjoyed it. It's a fast read. The characters are fun and well developed. This is a retelling of Ruth. What I loved the most about it was when both Brian and Natalia realized their calling, and it wasn't necessarily to do what their parents wished. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I received this book for free from Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze program for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Recommend for fans of Christy Miller, Jenny B. Jones, and Ally Carter.

Krista McGee has done it again! This third book from Krista is a modern day version of Ruth from the Bible. Natalia leaves her home of Spain and all that she knows to move with her stepmother to Tampa Florida when Natalia's father seeks a divorce from her stepmother. Natalia is thrust into a culture she doesn't know and a brokenhearted and depressed stepmother so the move to America is not all Natalia thought it would be. She struggles but believes that God has brought her to this place and in the process Natalia finds the plans and purpose God has for her life.

I loved this book! Natalia is a wonderfully relatable character and I love that Addy and Kara are in this book too. There is a nice side story as well in the character of Spencer that brought a lot to the book. This is definitely a must read :) I can't wait for Krista's next book.

I received this book as an ARC from Thomas Nelson. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Another amazing book from Krista McGee! This is the fourth book I've read by her, am I must say that I haven't been disappointed yet! McGee is definitely my favorite Christian author because her stories hold the perfect blend of entertainment and enlightenment. I'm always left with a smile on my face and hope in my heart!
I loved both 'First Date' and 'Starring Me', so I was very happy when I learned that Addy and Kara would be a part of Natalia's story. I absolutely adored Natalia. She was as amazing and well-written as Addy and Kara were. I also loved Brian's character. At times I got frustrated with the two of them because I ship them HARD. All's well that ends well, though!

While I did love Natalia and Brian, Spencer had to be my favorite character. Natalia and Brian both had to learn to give in to a part of themselves that they were pushing back, Spencer had to completely flip himself around. I just love that kind of transformation.

The entire story was absolutely wonderful and I will definitely continue to read Krista McGee's beautiful work!

Third book of the series - this one based on the story of Ruth. By far my favorite of the series so far. Loved the return of some characters from the first two books, but I really loved the cross culutral references and viewing the struggle of the characters to find their place and look for their place in life and ministry.

*Rating*: 4.25 stars ★★★★ I enjoyed the story
Natalia, a 17-year-old girl, was tired of watching her dad switch wives. His third marriage was to Maureen. Maureen, her stepmom, made Natalia feel important and loved—especially during times when she felt ugly and awkward. Natalia was furious with her dad when he decided to leave Maureen for another woman who was only six years older than Natalia. Maureen had been a spiritual mentor to her, and after the separation, Natalia vowed never to fall in love. Instead, she chose to focus solely on her work, Future.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

*Language* 🗣️: Clean
The characters swear (spoken, not written).

*Romance* ♥︎:
Embracing, holding hands, wanting to kiss, flirting, crushing, and a love triangle.
There are also greeting kisses.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

🌾𐃘I really enjoyed the faith aspect in this book.
The story was good, and I loved Brian’s family—such a sweet and wholesome group.I just wished Brian had gotten to know Natalia more deeply and given her more time to heal. It felt a bit rushed. I hoped Natalia would open up to Brian about her dad and explain why she didn’t want to date at first.
🌾𐃘I felt pity for Brian in the beginning—his low self-esteem and the bullying he endured. He didn’t deserve that.
I enjoyed his character and personality.
🌾𐃘I was happy to see Natalia putting Spencer in his place when he spoke badly about Brian—he was kind of ignorant at first.I was also happy for Spencer in the end. He changed into a better person, and I felt a bit sad for him because of his family situation and the fact that he didn’t get the girl he loved.I really don’t enjoy love triangles—they always leave someone hurt.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

🎊“ Even private people need to make some things public.”
This sentence just stuck in my head I just can relate to it like sometimes being too private is bad , you just have to open up with a trusted one
🎊 “ God, help me stay quiet. Better not to say anything at all than to say something I will regret. “ like yeah sometimes quite is more important than anything else in some situations.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
---
⤷*A point that was confusing for me*:

- “Seeing her in a sundress knocked me out; seeing her in a bathing suit will kill me.” — Brian thinking of Natalia

-“I'll be the pastor's advocate. I'll take his kids out for ice cream, and I'll never call their dad if I see them kissing a girl under the bleachers." - Brian
"Can you not do all that and still be a pastor?"- Natalia
"I don't want to be a pastor." - Brian

(I just want to make it clear: that’s not how a holy son of a pastor would think.
I know it’s a fictional story, but still—it felt off. I didn’t like that part.)

I love Biblical retellings. I love McGee’s humor. Mix them together and you get this beautiful portrait of a Natalia (our “Ruth”), a young girl who loves her God and her ex-stepmother so much that she travels to a new land in order to follow His will. In a culture Natalia, herself, feels lost inside.

God’s promise of caring for His children shines through in this story. McGee has crafted a memorable version of this familiar Bible story, and like every great book based around the Bible, Right Where I Belong brings a vividness to the story of Ruth. You understand, in a way you may not have before, the cultural differences she would have faced. The fear and out-of-place insecurities that could easily follow all of us around in this situation.

Might I just say the supporting cast in this book is superb? From the best friends to sidekicks to antagonists, McGee crafted them all with a backstory and personality that affected our heroine and hero. While I usually prefer my romance a little less focused, it was undeniably sweet and clean. You can’t help but love the dynamic between Natalia and Brian, or the way each helps the other grow.

If I remember correctly, this was my third time reading Right Where I Belong. I will probably read it again in a few years. Especially when I want a story that intertwines good humor, the bond of friendship, and—most importantly—relates a journey where faith in a loving Father transforms even the hardest and scariest of situations into unimaginable blessings.

I'm always on the hunt for good Christian Fiction. Sometimes, especially lately, it seems hard to come by so I rely off of books that I already read before. I discovered Krista McGee back in high school. At the time, it was just what I needed: Ruth was one of my favorite books of the bible, and I loved seeing the world through Natalia's Spanish perspective.

Rereading this several times since then I recommend this book to some of the Christian families that come into the library. It has a good theme of relying off of God's plan for your life as the teens in the book struggle to find out what God designed them for.

However, McGee isn't quite there. None of the people in this book sound like real people, especially the teenagers. For example, a character Lexi at one point says "And I'm here with Jesus tonight. He's a great date. Doesn't care what I look like and loves me unconditionally" (312). While I can agree with this sentiment, I cannot imagine anyone saying this unironically. It's just a bit cheesy. And it's already a real challenge to find Christian young adult books, let alone a Christian book for reluctant readers. After recommending the Lord of the Rings what else can you give your teen if you are looking to grow their Christian faith?

Overall comparing "Right Where I Belong" to the Christian genre as a whole it's not the worse I have read. And for the most part I enjoyed it years ago even with the cheesyness.

Overall, I think writers in the Christian genre need to understand that teens can tackle harder questions. We can give them more realistic themes on what life is actually like. I cannot help but feel we really sugar coat things for kids in their perspective genres in the effort to not lead them astray. But what ends up happening instead is they read the popular books and end up finding out a lot of things anyway.

I've really enjoyed this series. It's so nice to find Young Adult stories that are clean! Natalia is a new Christian and is new to the United States. It was fun watching her experience things in the U.S. for the first time. Her hunger for the Word and more of God inspired me. There was a real lesson in this on how much we take things for granted. And I loved Brian's humor. He struggled with self worth and watching him grow as well was great! This book had tons of faith content. Even though they both liked each other it was light on the romantic side.
I look forward to reading more by this author.

I am completely befuddled as to why I picked this up, other than the fact that I was screwing around with Hoopla and this popped up, somehow. And never mind that I read two more by the same author.

Don't worry. I'm better now. I think.

Spoiler: Everybody winds up in Jesus's warm embrace by the end. But did anyone ever think otherwise?

Given that I am so far out of the demographic this book and the siblings by the same author I read that I'm doubtless arriving from another galaxy I leave no rating. Almost didn't want to record it; I'll doubtless be recommended some interesting reads by GR in the near future. Can't wait.

I thought that Right Where I Belong was an interesting story with a good plot line, but I almost didn't make a post about it. I loved how all the characters love God and Jesus and try to put all of their faith in Him, but this book was Christian and not Catholic. At times Right Where I Belong was kind of cheesy, you can tell what will happen before it happens, but I still liked this book. If you read this book, I hope you like it too!

Things to mention: Natalias dad marries and divorces many times which is not right.

Krista McGee astounded me yet again with this amazing book. I have now read all of her books, and I am so sad that I don’t have anymore books to read by her. She is an amazing author, and I think every teen girl that knows Jesus should read this book. It’s absolutely amazing. Thank you Krista for yet another fantastic book. Please write more!!

Loved how the main character was very Christ focused. She learned how to listen to His will and his path even if it wasn't what she planned. I have liked reading this authors books and will read more from her.

I need a brain first off but I also love Natalie’s storyline with all of the questioning God and then God doing what he always does by humbling her and overall showing her that he is still good third re-read still loved it 🥰

This whole series is adorable. I love that each book showcases a different character but they all interact with one another. No clue which order they should be read in, but somehow I managed to make it work. Heavy on faith and encouraging!

I loved Right where I belong, and I think it is one of the best of Krista's books.
