'Lonely Planet. It's on everyone's bookshelves; it's in every traveller's hands. It's on mobile phones. It's on the Internet. It's everywhere, and it's telling entire generations of people how to travel the world.' – Fairfax Media (Australia)
OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
I was hoping that this book would help me plan and save money on some family vacations, but it seems to be mainly for single travelers with big pocketbooks. There's lots of discussion about how to get into Michelan- starred restaurants, going on safaris, , and foraging for food (make sure you bring your own fishing rod and bbq set to save money on food!). It doesn't offer much practical advice beyond the standard travel advice that you can find anywhere online. Coming from Lonely Planet, this book was a disappointment. Maybe it's be better if they had separate travel hack books for different parts of the world instead of trying to cram the entire world into one book of 150 pages.

I really like how it shares practical tips for planning trips and making the most of every destination. The section about finding unique experiences is especially helpful for travelers looking to create unforgettable memories. I recently discovered Glacier Tours while planning my next adventure, and it perfectly matches the book’s advice on seeking out extraordinary journeys. Some very good information in here! Love the top 10 free things to see page and all of the food tips. Essential $ apps…Genuis! Organized well and easy to navigate. ‘Tips for women travellers’, great idea!! wonderful and informative book for anyone who loves to travel or is looking to start!
3.5-3.75 stars for this well-organized book of travel hacks/tips. I will look at it again closer to the time I am able to travel. Suggested websites tend to be British, which makes sense given the publisher's strong UK connections.
This book is for the inexperienced traveler, or someone who quit traveling in 2020 and is now considering re-entry. The suggestion to buy a barbeque really made me laugh.
