"SCIENCE IS THE NEW ROCK 'N' ROLL." So said Dade Ellis, Simon Grimshaw, Emerson Strange and Thomas Walker at the dawn of a new age of enlightenment that ushered in a boom in scientific advancement. As the research supergroup World Corp., they became the most celebrated scientists of all time. They changed the world - and we loved them for it. But where did it all go wrong? And when progress is made at any and all cost, who ultimately pays the price?

Marketed as a 'smart graphic novel' but it's actually just a graphic novel featuring smart people.

Starts with a Super team of scientists that we see their background/interests/information like we'd see for celebs. Then, things start to go downhill from there...

+ Interesting how we see the political/law side of things as well as what's going on in the labs and such.

= It's just a beginning to the story, but I'm interested.

I nowhere men, appunto.

Here’s the thing I was really into the idea of the science is the new rock n roll concept, I liked all the biographies with the little trivia, and the art style was to die for. But then the hard transition into here’s a mysterious illness in a space station where they have been abandoned and quarantined (dramatic stakes), really let me down. This is a curious 3 stars, because I really did love that beginning.

Some of the dialogue is clunky and at times I was confused about what panel I should look at next. But I really liked the interspersing of newspaper articles, magazine pieces and World Corp. advertisements throughout the comic, a very interesting way to add details to the story and break up the standard comic panel format.

Short

Good color artwork. Four scientists are changing the world. They have invented a supervirus that grants superpowers and a changed appearence. Things will go wrong on the space station.

Eric Stephenson's creation that is Nowhere Men, is such a vast, interactive and intertwined world that everything from front to back is the world of Nowhere Men. Interviews, advertisements and magazines articles seem to add to the atmosphere of the world of Nowhere Men. Spanning past and present, issue 1 jumps us off with introducing us to the four main founders of World Corp. A corporation that has their hands, not only in science, technology and medicine to make a better world for all of humanity, it seems they also have their hands in the secretive projects gone rogue, and what appears to be some highly illegal operations in space which has also gone beyond their control. Nate Bellegarde does an excellent job with having very clean, clear and detailed artwork. Jordie Bellaire does an amazing job with making colors vibrate off the page and truly displays the time represented. Fonografiks and the whole team on Nowhere Men makes the story lines very clear and uniform. I never got lost with what was being said and who was saying it. Nowhere Men Issue 1 leaves me with the feeling of an illustrated novel as opposed to a comic book with writing inside. I can't wait to see what else Eric Stephenson and team have in store for us with further issues.

"Science is the new rocknroll"
What is the New Science? Understanding.
Wow. Poignant, right? This is an exciting comic, though I must admit the only thing exciting about this first issue was the interview with Thomas Walker at the end. It's the one thing that had insight and did feel like something I'd seen or read before. Nowhere Men is about Dade Ellis (neurobiologist) Simon Grimshaw (genetist) Emerson Strange (inventor, designer) & Thomas Walker (theoretical physicist) the "Beatles of Science" is what I'd call them. They form WORLD CORPORATION and take over the world one appliance at a time. The story picks up when Thomas Walker has resigned from the company and the remaining three are grappling with compromised ethics in the face of money, real money. The B side has a bunch of people, infected and in quarantine in a space station.

Receiving this with a little bit of trepidation, but hopefully things will start to really get moving in the second issue.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel, particularly liked the added 'articles' and 'interviews'from magazines etc which made it feel more biographical about the four characters.
My only issue is whether I'm going to be able to get hold of the other volumes in England as they don't appear to be easily available here!

I'll never get used to how short individual comics are. Picked this up for 50 cents at a comic book festival. Really like the setting and premise, as much as I know of them. Kind of gives me a Portal 2 feeling. Would definitely like to see where it's going.

This was much more interesting than I thought it would be. Seems like a decent intro to the world of comics for me.
