Michael Hoeye has worked as a farmer, fashion photographer, stagehand and high-school teacher. He and his wife, Martha, live in a stone cottage in Oregon with their cat, Lionel. They enjoy the company of nine big oak trees, six bigger fir trees, three fat squirrels, a noisy family of woodpeckers and a travelling circus of nuthatches, blue jays, crows, finches and robins.
Michael's first novel for children, Time Stops For No Mouse, was a worldwide success. The Sands of Time is his second book.
I read this book as a child and loved it so much that I named my pet gerbil after the main character’s pet ladybug. I don’t think I ever finished this story when I was younger, but it truly was a delight to read this one. I have to recommend re-reading stories you loved in younger years, it feels like I healed part of my inner child.
If you, an adult, need a quirky little read to remind you of why you loved reading so much as a kid, pick this up. This is a book I would have absolutely loved reading as a child; quirky, witty, light and still filled with suspense. Listening to the audiobook was fun, I played a little static behind the playback so it gave it an even older feel.
