Enhance your learning of musculoskeletal anatomy while maximizing your time. Join author Andrew Biel as he narrates Trail Guide to the Body. This three-hour series (on 4 CDs) explores 100 major muscles. A great tool for auditory learners or learning on-the-go. Each track includes:
1) Introduction to the muscle 2) The muscle's actions, origin, insertion and nerve innervation 3) Step-by-step instructions for palpating the muscle and, 4) "Check-it" information to ensure your location.
Since I am into strength training in general and want to perform some maintenance on my body, this book and other books like Kelly Starret's Becoming a supple Leopard or Tom Meyers Anatomy Trains are a great resource for everyone to locate and treat disfunctions in your body.
Great Illustrations and a very good summary of Trigger Points make this my go to book when to locate specific muscles tendons etc.
I bought this book a few years ago whilst completing my sports massage (SM) qualifications, however I barely glanced at it, not thinking I'd benefit from reading it... how wrong I was... I picked it up again this year whilst studying for my anatomy exams (chiropractic degree) and I am now questioning my sanity whilst preparing for my SM and the sheer amount of stress I would have not had to deal with if I'd only opened this book.
The book talks through the anatomy clearly and concisely, the "trails" are worded extremely well and the descriptions of the anatomical landmarks make it extremely easy to identify said landmarks on palpation of a client. I have used this book more than others (such as Greys Anatomy) which may be more detailed, because of how clear and concise the information is. It doesn't waffle and doesn't over-complicate what is an already complex topic. For anyone studying for a more hands on profession, I believe this book is a great tool to aid in your learning. Mine is currently full of post-it notes, highlighting and more notes than any other textbook I own. One point I believe would be a beneficial addition would be including the vascular supplies of the muscles.
I've recommended this to all students on my course and will likely continue to use it throughout my degree, possibly into my professional practice
I totally love this book - it's the best musculoskeletal anatomy book I've come across - it's basically a picture book with not too much text, which is my kind of book! So simple and so beneficial for my line of work in Exercise Physiology, Massage and Education and Training. Recommend it to anyone studying anatomy or working in the field and wanting a super simple book that's easy to refer to at any time needed.
By far the most practical anatomy book I've ever encountered for those of us who primarily deal with the musculoskeletal system -- massage therapists, movement therapists, yoga and martial arts teachers. Get a study buddy; you're going to need one for the palpation exercises.
The ultimate beginner's book on anatomy. The illustrations are marvelous and the videos that accompany the book online make the information so easy to remember !
