A novel so charming and story-gripping. With a plot capable of arousing and holding the attention of the reader.
This book made me remember the Xianxia genre and fantasy historical drama of 'Love Between Fairy and Devil', which I loved. So when I read the synopsis of this novel I was over de moon to dive back into a world so typical of Chinese fantasy heavily inspired by its mythology and culture.
I was so excited to read a novel with a story full of magic, romance, war, dragons and fairies. Well-written with a magnificent plot. Loved every minute of reading this book. I highly recommend it! I big thank you to the author, Erica Laurie and Booksprout.

I have been a long time fan and reader of Erica Laurie and her writing keeps getting better. The K.I.S.S. review version would be that please some streaming service turn this into your next Chinese xianxia fantasy historical tv series drama. So if you stream and are a fan of the aforementioned type of Chinese tv dramas and like your shapeshifter romances sensually clean than you will probably enjoy this fantasy romance between our immortal hero and heroine.
One Thousand Winters takes place in a time of war and hatred between the races of Dragon, Fairy, and Man. Follow the characters as they unite to fight against the evil darkness.
One Thousand Winters, written by Erica Laurie, invites readers into a captivating world where a fairy named Jingyi finds herself entangled in an unexpected encounter. While seeking a divine peach that blooms once every ten thousand years, Jingyi discovers a wounded man. Believing him to be an immortal from the fairy realm, she provides aid, only to uncover that he is none other than Deng Longwei, the dragon prince.
The notion that dragons are the enemy has been ingrained in Jingyi's beliefs. However, as she spends more time with Longwei, she begins to question the truth she has been told. Their connection deepens, and as their love blossoms, they find themselves caught in the midst of a brewing conflict between the fairies and dragons. Together, they must confront their own prejudices and seek a way to prevent war.
Erica Laurie skillfully crafts a tale of love, redemption, and the power of overcoming preconceived notions. The development of the relationship between Jingyi and Longwei is tender and heartfelt, drawing readers into their emotional journey. The exploration of the consequences of hatred and the potential for unity adds depth and resonance to the narrative.
Laurie's writing style is immersive, painting a vivid picture of the fantastical world where fairies and dragons coexist. The delicate balance between romance and the impending conflict between the two realms creates a sense of anticipation, keeping readers engaged throughout.
Overall, One Thousand Winters is an enchanting and engaging tale of forbidden love and the breaking of stereotypes. Erica Laurie's ability to craft compelling characters and explore themes of acceptance and unity makes this book a must-read for fans of fantasy romance. Prepare to be swept away into a world where love challenges boundaries and the power of connection can bridge even the deepest divides.

When I jumped into the story, I was SO confused. Some things happened and I wasn't sure about anything. We weren't introduced to the world so I had to figure it out on my own. And the thing is, if you haven't watched any of Chinese wuxia dramas then it is very likely that you won't be able to understand what magic was going on and some rules that are in a wuxia world.
I can't believe I'm saying this but I didn't feel any chemistry between them. Whenever someone said "I don't feel the chemistry" about book characters, I didn't understand it. How is it possible not to feel it while reading a book? But now I really understand.
It was also insta love. I don't want to spoil anything but it's important for you to know that the book wasn't even half way through yet and they had already kissed more than 3 times. I'm the kind of reader that wants the kiss scene to be special and a very beautiful and powerful scene. But here? No...
One last thing that I noticed was the writing style. It was very weird. It felt like some describing sentences were left out and it made it hard for me to go along with the story and the situation. Reading it felt like running through this book without getting a break and it was exhausting somehow. I couldn't see the world in my head and was blind half the time.
So yeah, here is my reason for DNFing this. Man, I wanted to love it because the cover is so beautiful but I can't...
Jingyi is a flower fairy, but even among those she’s looked down upon as her magic seems stunted compared to those around her. However, from the beginning Jingyi is different than the other fairies. She sees with eyes of compassion, prompting her to venture out to lend aid to whoever needs it. She chooses to believe that same good nature must be found in others, even as she’s almost beaten to death at their hands. Most of all she reaches beyond herself, past her fairy world to grab hold of a future that brings hope to all, even if it threatens to empty her completely. She’s pure and her actions flow from that incredible heart. It’s no wonder Longwei, the dragon prince, sees the hidden strength from this little flower. He vows to always protect her for he’s the dragon prince she’s imagined in every fairytale come to life, not the cruel dragon she was taught to hate by the fairy world. In her, Longwei is reminded that there can be a world were dragons and fairies can move beyond the betrayals of the past and discover a world together. It's one where even a flower fairy and a dragon prince can find everything they wanted standing before them. And they’ll battle intensely for each other, one to save the other, unwilling to allow the Shadow to extinguish the flame out. Yet when it seems the unthinkable has happened, they reclaim the fight and cling to that last sliver of hope. It emerges from a bond that refuses to be broken. It’s a vow that will not yield even to death’s grasp. It’s a love that transcends time. Even if it takes one thousand winters, Longwei and Jingyi know it’s worth the wait.
I have read most of Ms. Laurie's works and have loved them all - this novel was no exception! Jingyi, Longwei, Yifeng and Feng'er were all likeable characters, and I thought they were very well developed. I was rooting for all of them from start to finish! I also really enjoyed the world-building - the fairy realm and dragon realm were described so thoroughly that I felt like I could picture exactly what Ms. Laurie was seeing in her mind's eye. The storyline was very engrossing for me; I could hardly wait to see what would happen next. I always enjoy the mythical/magical elements that Ms. Laurie includes - I'm a big fan of dragons as "good guys", so this book held extra appeal for me. And I totally appreciate that her stories are clean and sweet! All in all, this one was a hit!

I love reading about stories with Asian backgrounds and lately I've really been interested in the Romantasy (Romance Fantasy) genre!
This lovely story is full of magic, romance, war, dragons and fairies. I really loved Jingyi, LongWei, YiFeng, and Feng'er. Great worldbuilding and story plot. I felt like I was in the story experiencing what the characters felt.
This is the first of Erica Laurie's books and I'm excited to read her other works! I know they will all just as good as this one! Will definitely be revisiting this beautiful story! ♡︎༺☆༻♡︎
I found this story ok, but not ground breaking. There is a stumble in the flow of the text, meaning that I did not enjoy it as much as a good polish and editing would have allowed me to. The story is ok, but not specially intricate, and the characters don't seem to be fully adults (they behave childishly). Is the writer a young writer? In that case, this is a good start, but she likely needs to find a sturdier voice to tell her tale, which will come in the future I'm sure. I would think that this book is oriented towards a younger reader.

Overall, I enjoyed the book for what the story was telling.
At times it was frustrating to read because of how much the FMC would continuously mention how ‘stupid’ she was and others saying so too. I also felt the book didn’t need to be as long as it was, and suddenly turned into multiple POVs later on. I think it could’ve been written better to where I didn’t feel like I was re-reading scenes multiple times.
This does mention some violence and abuse, but it kind of read to me as if it were an instalove, cozy fantasy with Asian folklore.
I really liked the last book that I read by this author, so I had high expectations for this.
This was a delightful fairytale. Nothing about the writing was complex, but it was really beautiful and whimsical, and the author brought the characters and the story vividly to life. If you enjoy fantasy novels about fairies and dragons, this may be for you.

From a meeting in a very pretty no-man's land to each suffering great trials to finally enjoy their happily-ever-after, this Asian-inspired tale of fairies and dragons brings to mind the original Grimm version of the story of Rapunzel combined with Chinese historical dramas. Any one who loves fairy tale romances or historical soap operas will find this clean tale of star-crossed lovers to be their liking (especially young adults who want adult romance with childlike wonder).

Such a cute and beautiful novel. A story of true love like in fairytales. So beautifully written and there was so much emotion and passion that it tugged at my heartstrings. This novel is also a good palate cleanser too. I love that it wasn’t slow paced. It was straight to the point. Couldn’t put this book down. I only wish the book was longer.
As a big fan of Chinese and Korean Dramas, I absolutely 💯 LOVED this book. I read this book in 2 DAYS via Kindle unlimited which is a record! From the characters and how the ending turned out I was very glad to have read this book. No matter the outcome of what the FMC and MMC went through, true love always finds its way in the end. Thank you for writing this ❤️
What an intriguing story. Fairy Jingyi is picking a special peach and finds a wounded man. She has no idea who or what he is. She’s been taught that dragons are dangerous. Are they, who knows. Had to binge read to find out.

This book is "one thousand winters". It is a decent fantasy story and would be perfect for those who enjoy dragons, fairies and magic. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I would have enjoyed it so much more if it hadn't been lift and shift from the CNDrama "Love between the devil and the fairy". Greatly enjoyed the drama though.
Jingyi starts off very naive and ends up helping the mean girls seek a divine peach. When she is separated from them she discovers a wounded man who is covered in ice. She decides to help him, only to learn he’s the dragon king, Longwei. Things become more complicated when Jingyi accidentally consumes his heart scale and binds her soul to his. What follows is an epic romance where Jingyi learns that what she was told about the fairy and dragon war wasn’t the full truth and that a more sinister evil is threatening to tear the world apart, harming both her people and the dragons she has has come to love. Especially her love for Longwei.
