Crocheted hats are in style on everyone from sophisticated urbanites to women of a certain age. They are seen on hip skateboarders and happy babies. No wonder the hat is such a popular crochet project. Hooked Hats presents 20 easy crochet designs bursting with color, textures, and fashion style. The projects feature a variety of yarns from bright cottons to novelty yarns and offer extras like linings, edgings, and embellishments. For the many beginners, an illustrated basics section teaches the stitches. There are rare alternative instructions for lefties and a handy ruler. Hooked Hats is part of an exciting new series of crochet project books.
From her Ravelry Profile: I have been knitting and crocheting forever. I am a mother and grandmother, and a great grandmother. I design, teach, and write books. My first book was published in 1978, and I just completed my 19th book In addition to the books, I have 2 independently produced video’s/dvd’s, and 3 self published entrelac crochet patterns. The projects here skew more towards beanies. I was hoping for more variety. There is a range of different yarn gauges used. I found the most interesting cap was the Mesh Cap (p 28) and the author showed two different color ways for it. But I found some of the hats just unattractive (New Plaid Tam, Peruvian Hat). Directions are given on line by line, no charts. The photography is okay. Love the spiral binding. It allows the book to lay flat. Otherwise, I was a bit disappointed.
Nice variety of hats. There are projects done in the round and flat. Not sure if I agree with the easy label, as some of the techniques would most likely be a bit challenging for beginners (front post double crochet for example) There is a how-to stitch guide for those able to learn stitches that way. Overall nicely put together.
