lacked cohesion and yet somehow was unnecessarily descriptive.

Draco would do anything for his mother. He joined the Death Eaters to protect her, he became the Hight Reeve to keep her safe and now he made a deal with the Order to keep her alive.
When Lucius failed his task for Voldemort, Narcissa and Draco where left to clean up his mess. Narcissa was tortured daily in her own home by Voldemort and other Death Eaters, while Draco had to join the ranks just to keep her alive. Over the years he had to become more and more ruthless to keep her safe and now his title as High Reeve is widely feared and respected.
But Narcissa's health keeps declining rapidly and Draco has become desperate. He exchanges his services as a high ranking Death Eater, for the help of Hermione as a Healer. She is his only hope in saving his mothers life and he's more than willing to pay any price for it, even if it means he has to give up his own.

Another fic that has been inspired by Manacled but with a very different plot than the original.
In this story Hermione is a Healer as well and Draco is the High Reeve who exchanges his services to the order for his mother but in this story Hermione isn't as involved in the fight against Voldemort and Narcissa is still alive, barely but still...
Draco doesn't go to the order because of his mothers belives but more so because he needs Hermione in particular, to heal her. Neither Narcissa or Draco are fond of the other side and both of them are pretty hostile towards Hermione for most of the story.

Most of the fic takes place in Malfoy Manor and is about the healing sessions for Narcissa.
Throughout the tortures healing process, Hermione and Draco get to know eachother better and bond over their attempt to keep Narcissa alive.
Things change betweeen them when Narcissa wakes and the war takes a turn for the worst.
With Voldemort in power and Narcissa hating her, Hermione is in a terrible position. The safest postiton for her as a muggle born is close to the Malfoys and away from the battelfield.
But Hermione doesn't give up hope on ending Voldemort once and forall, even when that means that she has to stay trapped in the Manor as a personal healer for a woman that wants nothing to do with her and her lover forced to marry another woman. She will find a way to bring Voldemort down and she is going to do it right under his nose.

I was honestly a little skeptical because it's fanfiction of fanfiction, Manacled is already a great work and it felt like a rewrite to improve on what Manacled lacked, and I know that's an absurd prejudice on *my* part because that's what fanfiction is all about.

There are new things, these new things were what kept me hooked until the end, I genuinely wanted to know what was going to happen???

In the end, I did enjoy the reading, I read the fic in two days, maybe three days? I just couldn't stop reading. Lately, I've been dnf'ing fics and books because I lose interest in the plot, it definitely didn't happen with Lapsarian.

I would recommend this fic to someone who does not want to read Manacled for its dark content, as this fic does not contain rape or the plot of Handmaid's tale.

I also recommend it for anyone who really liked Manacled and would like to get an idea of what would have happened if things had been different, or if Hermione / Draco had made different choices.

3.4!

im a fan of the author's other works so i thought i'd be able to race through this but personally it was a tough read and felt a bit clunky, there was a lot going on, however, i did want to see how everything tied itself together and how the story would piece together its ending.
