At Jolly's, the holidaymakers have nothing to worry about except how much the sun is going to shine. If only that was the case for the staff...Taking its inspiration from holiday camps like Butlins and Pontins, Let the Good Times Roll is the third heart-warming and hilarious saga of life on a holiday camp in 1960s Britain, from much-loved author Lynda Page. When the head of the entertainment team is accused of sleeping with a guest, his instant dismissal leads to Patsy Mathers landing the coveted role of Head Stripey. Patsy can't believe her luck and is determined to do her best, but fellow Stripey Dixie Carter has other ideas...Meanwhile, someone is trying to sabotage the smooth running of the camp, and staff manager, Harold Rose, has to rally the troops to ensure that Jolly's remains the place where the good times roll. With drama and adventure at every turn, a holiday at Jolly's is impossible to forget! What readers are saying about Let the Good Times Roll :'It was lovely to get reacquainted with the Jolly's family... This series draws you in and keeps you turning the pages until you get to the last one''From start to finish, this book is fantastic, makes you feel like you're on holiday and a part of the camp''Absolutely loved it. I have read all three in this series and they just keep getting better '
Author of 29 books, Lynda Page was born and brought up in Leicester. The eldest of four daughters, she left home at seventeen and has had a wide variety of office jobs. She began her prolific writing career with her first novel during her 45 minute lunch hours at work. The book took 18 months to complete and was snapped up by the leading UK publisher, Headline, and she has been under contract to them ever since. She lives in a village in Leicestershire and is a full time writer.
I've given this book five stars because it is a light, amusing book that l read when feeling unwell in bed. It's interesting as l remember the holiday camps of the sixties and l enjoyed the setting for the book. There's plenty of different characters and a lot of female traits are displayed through the female staff, successfully as envy, greed and manipulation of men are all covered.
This is part of a 4 part series around a holiday camp up in Skegness. It’s all about the comings and goings of what goes on! The season has been busy, and lots has happened with the staff There are new staff in this book. The reason I gave it a 4 was the ending was very blunt. It just seemed to end Looking forward to reading book 4 now!
It is very rare that I even contemplate not finishing a book but I have to say, I even threw this down in exasperation before reluctantly continuing on. The characters were a cliche. The events were contrived. The way characters talked was grating and in places unrealistic - monologues just don't happen in day to day conversation, let alone the heat of the moment. Characters were using out of place language. It was just all a bit off - and unfortunately in an un-entertaining way.
All the fun of the holiday camp! Set in Jollys holiday camp, this is a story of life amongst the staff. But it's not all fun.............. Dixie, deputy head of entertainment, will do anything to ensure she has the limelight, and she's not pleased when Patsy is promoted ahead of her! Marion is on the lookout for a man to improve her living standards and she'll do anything to get him........ Meanwhile, someone is doing their best to sabotage the holiday camp. A light read, with some well drawn characters. This was fun and entertaining, much like life in a holiday camp!!! The various strands of the story and intrigue keep you reading, as you want to see the characters brought to justice and to find out who dunnit! I received this copy via netgalley. Com in exchange for a review.
It was lovely to get reacquainted with the Jolly’s family. I enjoyed this book, but as I had read and enjoyed the others in the series I didn’t doubt for a moment that I wouldn’t. This series draws you in and keeps you turning the pages until you get to the last one. I would highly recommend this book; it was the perfect read for my summer holiday.
A wonderful "Hi - de - Hi" story, centred on and around a typical British holiday camp and the players therein! Great fun! I was given a digital copy of this book by the publisher Headline via Netgalley in return for an honest unbiased review.
This book is the 3rd book in the Jolly’s series, another rollercoaster from start to finish but I was so invested in this storyline and the characters, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what happens next!
