The Tenebrous has been eliminated, but that’s only the beginning of Grey’s problems.
When Koda is taken by rummers during a routine night patrol, Grey knows their behavior is anything but routine.
Rummers don’t kidnap their victims—they consume them.
Now, Grey must discover who or what is controlling these creatures of darkness, producing and flooding the streets of his city with Redrum X, and stop them.
Or die trying.
Getting Koda back will force Grey to face enemies in the shadows. Enemies that prefer to hide in the dark.
They will soon realize that Night Wardens not only dwell in the darkness—Night Wardens thrive in the darkness.
Orlando Sanchez has been writing ever since his teens when he was immersed in creating scenarios for playing Dungeon and Dragons with his friends every weekend. An avid reader, his influences are too numerous to list here. Some of the most prominent are: J.R.R. Tolkien, Jim Butcher, Kat Richardson, Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Lee Child, George Lucas, Andrew Vachss, and Barry Eisler to name a few in no particular order. The worlds of his books are urban settings with a twist of the paranormal lurking just behind the scenes and generous doses of magic, martial arts, and mayhem. Aside from writing, he holds a 2nd and 3rd Dan in two distinct styles of Karate. If not training, he is studying some aspect of the martial arts or martial arts philosophy. He currently resides in Queens, NY with his family and can often be found in the local Starbucks where most of his writing is done. Wow, what happens in this last Night Warden book is head shaking! Koda is kidnapped,I know, amazing right?!? The mission? Get her back, no matter the cost. Oh, and rescue that vial of Redrum X serum that's floating around out there that turns rummers into an army, not just mindless killers. Grey recruits a old warden that has so many rumors about him that no one even wants to consider working with him! Frank is apoplectic when he learns of it! Grey has to use all his powers, which means the wicked sword and even more dangerous blood goddess, a questionable sidekick, his literally killer car and the aid of the Wordweavers. And he take on an army of smart rummers and Mako, who lives up to her name! She is just as deadly as the shark she's named after! Plus, she's created a tool to manage the rummers that Grey can corrupt that helps him finish what he starts. An explosive ending to a fantastic trilogy. What new powers does Kids end up with? Curious readers wants to know!
This was an amazing book. It was great to get back into the world of the last Night Warden. Every time Frank the Dragon (lizard) spots I can "see" the flames. He reminds me of little dogs with big dog attitudes. He makes me smile. In this story we learn just how powerful he is. It was good to visit with some characters from the M&S world. I feel that we haven't seen the last of redrum x and Tigris.
Just another day in the life of a warden. Grey has the honor of being the last Warden, but he does have a trainee. Koda (Warden in training) and Grey get into the fight of their lives and get played by Tigeres. Now Grey must do everything in his power to save Koda and stop Tigares from destroying the world. Excellent read, packed with lots of action and a great story line. Theo book keeps your attention and makes you want more. Keep writing, I’ll keep reading.
The cranky guy, the snarky apprentice, the mysterious bartender, the dragon, love all dragons big and small! Who doesn't like psychotic goddesses? I am now moving to Montague and Strong, liked the intro to the city with Grey. Got a lot of clues of expectation for the drive agency, lol. Cannot wait for more of Grey and Koda, gonna get some background to this world now. Happy reading, totally worth it, read these like I drink coffee, w dash of cream and all day!
The Night Warden Series is grittier, than Montague & Strong. The central characters are interesting, colorful, have depth and evolve more noticeably. These characters feel grounded (even Frank) and the theme of family of choice works better here. This side of the mage world is more relatable. It’s harder for me to relate to Strong ,a name dropping Fashionista (from clothes to couches) with obnoxious immaturity despite being a 40 something immortal. The last night Warden is a more sympathetic character.
The Night Warden books are equally as good as the Montague & Strong detective agency books (if not in places better). If I'm being honest, if asked to choose which series is better I'd be unable to do so. Seriously hoping Gray & Koda have many more adventures. You won't regret reading this series; I have to consciously slow down when reading them. All to easy to finish one in a single sitting.
Hopefully, no one tries jumping into this book without reading the first two "Night Warden" books - no spoilers here, but I'll say Orlando did a wonderful job of bringing some good conclusions, extending some other "developing" parts of some characters, and bring up some new things to prompt his readers to wonder, worry, and ask "What? Why? Huh, really?" I'm already impatient for the next book in this series!
Ok, this is entirely not a M&S (and Peaches) novel. Grey actually makes Monty look pleasant. in this installment, Grey is mostly on his own, at least as much as someone bonded to a sword inhabited by a blood goddess can he alone. Plenty of magic and battles makes this an action filled read with known and previously unknown characters set in the M&S world. Grey's trio is possibly as destructive as The M&S and peaches trio.
Gray is faced with Koda being taken and a crazy organization wanting to take over. He finds himself in a race against time to get her back. Orlando’s books are fast paced and so, so well developed. I love reading them as they capture your attention immediately and then move the reader forward with a smooth rhythm. It is good to have Gray back and as he has knows family is everything.
Peaches is my favorite character and even though he didn't appear in this dark corner of new York, I really enjoyed the book. I've liked the sneak peeks into Grey that I've seen and this book shows a lot about his character. Appreciated him giving people chances to do better.
Family is all that matters & it doesn't need to be blood related. We all have those special someone's & this story is all about Grey's. There's lot's of action, as well as references or visits by other characters in this world, in a word, it's fun. It's also very dark & dangerous, oh yes, give me more.
The character of grey continues to grow and become more interesting. Koda is a great partner and friend. Frank makes the books laugh out loud funny. Cole continues to be a mystery that holds the dive together. I look forward to the next installment. Coffee is life is a sentiment that I can get behind. Please write more stories in this world.
I love this series. It is edgy with just the right amount of snarky goodness. This book proves that the antihero heros are the best. A hero will sacrifice the one to save the many. A dark mage will blow up the whole world to save family.
When Grey and Frank are involved there is always plenty of action. I loved getting to spend time with the Night Warden and seeing more of Frank's power. The Night Warden stories take place in the Montague & Strong world so you may pick up on some common areas. Another great story!
This was a well-plotted, explosive adventure where the momentum just kept building. The character development was very satisfying, as were the cameos from some of the other series set in this world.
This story really has everything. Action, humor, more action, and more twist than a country road. If you like that sort of thing you will love this book. Great read.
I really really enjoyed this book about Night Warden Grey Stryder, Warden Koda, Frank, the Beast and Darkspirit. We get to see more of Aria and the Word Weavers. Well written. Hard to put down. I am already looking forward to the sequel.
The story is compelling and complex. There is the chance for redemption. It does show the multiple areas of gray involved with our lives. Can we please change the book cover I don't believe your fighting zombies looking !one a sex kitten.
Absolutely fantastic reading Orlando Sanchez has got to be one of the best authors i have had the pleasure of reading if you don't read his work it's definitely your loss
This authors world building and character development are staggeringly imaginative and rock solid! With the amount of destructive forces unleashed, we may have to consider a change of name to The Montague Strider Effect!
With Kodo taken, Grey will do anything to get her back, you don't leave a Night Warden. Assisted by Frank, Cole and his blood thirsty Goddess sword, Grey is on the war path. This will not end well, one way or another, he will get Kodo back or die trying.
I ran out of Strong and Montevideo books and found these which are almost as awesome but lack the presence of Peaches who is my favorite character. Great expansion on the world Mr. Sanchez has built. Thank you for hours of reading pleasure.
Solid characters & plots=compelling, well written stories that inevitably leave me wanting more! Honestly five stars well deserved. I still want more Brew & Chew though!
