The Cursed Kingdom Chronicles #2.5

Willow and the Harvest Moon

Rate this book
She’s the shunned, strange and unwanted maiden living alone in the woods. He’s the noble, handsome, and highly eligible personal knight of the King. So why is he always seeking her out? Willow is familiar with the unkind words of others. With her ugly and undesirable grey-white hair and black eyes, the villagers never tire of their mocking. Only one person has ever been kind to her–Sir Thomas. Despite her intense attraction to the kind and handsome knight, Willow knows he could never want her –the cursed outcast with the strange ability to speak with animals. When Thomas takes a walk in the woods on a cool autumn day, he never imagines finding the mythical Westwoods–woods he only knows from bedtime stories told to children. After becoming stranded, he is relieved when Willow stumbles upon him. As they wait out a storm together in a small cave, their feelings for one another can no longer be denied. As they emerge from the cave and search for a way out of the woods, Willow starts to wonder if she could belong with Thomas. Could someone truly want her? However, when they discover secrets about Willow’s true identity, their budding relationship is threatened. Will discovering her past change whatever seems to be forming between them faster than a leaf falling to the forest floor? Or is belonging more than being accepted by others, but accepting one’s self? “Willow and the Harvest Moon” is a retelling of the Ugly Duckling and is part of the “Autumn Fairy Tales,” a collection of eight cozy retellings of your favorite fairy tales. Each book can be enjoyed in any order, so grab yourself a handsome knight to cuddle with beside a warm fire and “fall” in love with the romance, pumpkin spice, and everything nice of these sweet and clean novellas!

temporary/soft DNF

This book is connected to another series by this author, so I did feel left out at times, not knowing who some characters were. Going to DNF this one for now despite being a few chapters in because I do have an interest in the other books by this author and feel like I would enjoy this one more after reading those first.

This book is so gentle and cozy. I loved Willow's little forest dwelling and all her animal friends! Molly the bunny was hands down my favorite character. The writing style is very simple and childlike, making me think of old Disney movies (though the kisses are a little more passionate in this one, and definitely for those who appreciate a well muscled, shirtless hero...!)

Another great story filled with fall goodies and delight! Thomas is sooo swoony 😍 as the MMC. Willow is a unique character who overcomes being different. This book proved again not to judge a book by the cover. No one is perfect. I love Kaylas books!!! ❤️

In a way the Ugly Duckling is a story that should speak to me. I am one of those outsiders. I've never been part of the in-crowd. I've never belonged. And yet I never really liked the tale. I'm therefore always curious about retellings. Depending on which elements they highlight I can either hate or love it. I was therefore really glad I got an arc for this book to give it a try.

What I absolutely loved about this book is that it incorporates elements of the original story very well and yet also adds a lot of original context. I've never read a book set in this world, so everything was new to me, and I loved exploring the kingdom, learning about the history and discovering a new part of the world filled with magic.

I also loved the characters in this novel. They do sound a little young at times but in a way that also makes them endearing. Especially because those two characters share the kind of love I long for myself. It's not about burning passion. It's about trust and friendship. It's about standing up for someone. It's about seeing someone's beauty before they do so themselves.

What I also really liked is that our heroine doesn't automatically fit into her family when she discovers she has one. All too often people reconnect with their family and all of a sudden feel at home, but that wouldn't have been realistic in this case. I think the author did an amazing job writing the perfect ending for these characters and this story.

I also got really curious about the other stories set in this world!

I've read a few of the Autumn Fairytales series and this one, a retelling of the Ugly Duckling was the sweetest. In a good way! Willow is a kind and lovable girl shunned because she is different but still keeps trying to do good and fit in. The love story between her and Thomas feels like High Chivalry and I really loved it. He is so kind. And the reveal (her swan moment) fit the story so well. The ending was deeply satisfying and I just love the thought of where they end up.

Cute and cozy

Cute and cozy read. It's a bit of an obvious retelling of the ugly duckling. However, there are some unique differences, being that Willow lives in the forest and can speak to the animals. Which is a fabulous addition. Thomas is a knight of the king and comes to see Willow every chance he can. Thomas finds her unique features enchanting and her ability magical while she only sees it as something that sets her apart from everyone else even more. This book was full of fall coziness and a touch of intrigue, very low stakes, but a fun read altogether.

I have to say, each of the books either in the series or related to the series have the same prologue. I find that super helpful since I've been in and out of the series over the past year. That prologue drops me right back into the mindset of where we are and what is going on!
Cute story. I really liked this one!

This was a cute, cozy read! I've never read another Ugly Duckling retelling, but this one was an interesting spin on the tale. Seeing Willow realize she's a beautiful swan rather than an ugly duckling was heartwarming.

Very sweet and cute story.
The message behind the story was beautiful; knowing yourself, having confidence.

I wanted to smack the MMC for not being more bold with sharing his feelings and waiting until a very improper moment to finally reveal them.
Though he did make up for it later with his interactions with Archie and Clover

And then lost me again at the end for giving up on the FMC too easily.

King Wesley was unbelievably childish, but I also want to go read his book now

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but meant to be read as a stand-alone

– this is connected to Kayla’s Cursed Kingdom Chronicles series & best read after Glass Midnight (however you don’t have to have read the series to enjoy this book, but we do meet Thomas in True Princess & get to know him more in Glass Midnight)

– this is told from Willow & Thomas’s points of view

– a character breaks a bone & describes how it looks a little bit (does not break skin- so no blood)

Review:

I loved this adorable romance! I loved getting to know Thomas more (beyond the slightly stressed/annoyed guard running around because of his prankster prince best friend) and seeing him around Willow! I loved that Thomas as so protective of her and didn’t try to change her at all, just loved her as she is. I loved that Willow cared so much for her forest and chose to be kind to the people around her, even though they weren’t all kind back. I enjoyed Clover’s random thoughts and insights to Willow and those around her. He was quite funny and made me laugh a few times with his misinformed conclusions.

Summary:

Willow is not like those around her. While the people of the village have dark hair, Willow has strange gray-white hair on her head. Since she looks like their once enemies, they still mock and shun her when she has to venture into their society. All except Sir Thomas, the king’s knight that everyone loves. He is kind and stands up for Willow when no one else does, and he has done this in all the time they’ve known each other not just when the feud with a neighboring kingdom came to an end. Willow find herself drawn to his kindness and his sweet nature, but knows that it is unlikely that Thomas could feel the same way about her. Not when he could have practically any woman on his arm. Why would he desire the strange outcast?

Thomas finds Willow to be not only fascinating, but also beautiful and doesn’t understand why the villagers are determined to snuff out the light she brings wherever she goes. Despite his interest in her though, Thomas can’t seem to find the words to tell her about his feelings. When Thomas ventures into the woods one day and finds himself lost and injured, he believes that maybe Willow is starting to catch on to how he feels as she finds and cares for him during his recovery. But when a stranger comes upon them with claims to knowing who Willow truly is, Thomas isn’t sure that she’ll still chose him over finding a place where others will accept her…

Willow and the Harvest Moon by Kayla Eshbaugh is a sweet retelling of The Ugly Duckling and is the fifth book in the Autumn Fairy Tales collection.

If you're looking for a book with a cutesy autumn setting, hilarious squirrels, and super sweet best-friends-to-lovers romance, this book should jump to the top of your TBR.

WILLOW doesn't feel like she fits in. It doesn't help that she has silver hair, talks to animals, and lives in a tree. Despite all of this, she is kind to everyone she meets and treats everyone far better than they treat her.

I love how Willow is always willing to care for those in need, whether that be a cute duckling or an injured knight. Her struggles with understanding her true worth were so relatable!!! Her character was so easy to connect with and look up to.

THOMAS is a sweet knight and Willow's best friend. He wants to make sure Willow knows how special she truly is, while feeling unsure of how to properly express his feelings. He is also so protective. Like in that one scene where he threatens to stab that one guy or that other scene where he threatens to strangle that one guy...

I just love how Thomas always believes in Willow and is always so quick to reassure her of her individual worth. He also is always willing to help her with whatever she needs. And the number of pumpkins he's carved for her... *sqeals* I want a guy to carve a pumpkin for me!!!!!

I LOVED Willow's cute little animal friends. Clover (the squirrel) made me laugh so many times. While I was in public. I think some people thought I was insane, but Clover's antics are worth it!!!!!

This book felt SO MUCH like fall. The cute woodland animals, the woodland setting, the Harvest Moon celebration... I love it!!! I wish we got fall colors here. Or could have that celebration... Let me reiterate, I really, really want a cute boy to carve me a pumpkin!!!!!!!!!!!

I ADORED the theme Kayla included of the importance of being there for people and letting them know how much they mean to you. It really means so much when you know someone believes in you!!!

Kayla Eshbaugh's Willow and the Harvest Moon was so cute and uplifting!!!! The characters were so loveable and I wish I could visit Willow's world!!! I highly recommend this book for any fans of fairy tale retellings!

I received an ARC of this book. My opinions are my own. A positive review was not required.

I was so excited to read about Sir Thomas! I have been reading the Cursed Kingdom books and really enjoying them, so having the chance to read his story is such a treat! Willow is familiar with the unkind words of others, with her ugly and undesirable gray-white hair and black eyes. Only Sir Thomas has ever been kind to her, though she knows he could never want her, the cursed outcast with the strange ability to speak with animals. Thomas’s discovery of the mystical Westwoods, which he has only heard about in children’s stories, leads to him becoming stranded in them. Thankfully Willow stumbles upon him, but as they wait out a storm in a small cave, can they deny their feelings. And as secrets about Willow’s true identity emerge, will it change what seems to be forming between them?
This was adorable! I already liked Sir Thomas from Glass Midnight and was excited to read his story. He was sweet as a supporting character to Wes and Ellie and even sweeter in his own book. I loved his honor and kindness. He was determined to be a safe place for Willow and he so obviously found her amazing. They were adorable together! Willow was a sweetheart. She was so willing to be kind, even to those who were so harsh to her. I admired her strength as a survivor, even as she was trying to find herself.
It was exciting to watch them discover secrets about the world of the Cursed Kingdoms. I don’t usually see retellings around The Ugly Duckling, so it is a treat to read them! I was intrigued seeing Willow’s past being revealed. This was a relatively short story compared to the others in the series, so things did move more quickly. However, it did not feel rushed to me and I really felt for the characters. I would definitely recommend this to those who enjoy cozy fairytale inspired romances! I think the experience is enhanced by reading the Cursed Kingdom Chronicles, especially Glass Midnight, but it is not necessary.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I plan to read more from her. While it can be read as a standalone, this novella is a side story in The Cursed Kingdom Chronicles - though I didn't feel lost reading the story. This book is also a part of the Autumn Fairy Tales Collection, which is made up of 8 standalone books by different authors. The book's blurb is straightforward. It's a sweet Ugly Duckling retelling told through Willow and Thomas' pov.

Being treated with contempt for how she looks, it's been a challenge for Willow to accept herself for the way that she is. She feels a longing to fit in and have someone to love. The only person who doesn't shun her is Thomas. Unlike the others, Thomas appreciates Willow for who she is and wants nothing more for her to see that as well. He is protective towards her and does his best to remind her she's special the way that she is.

While I would've liked this to be a full length novel to have more of Willow and Thomas, it's a great novella. I liked the pacing of the story and it was easy to get lost in the story. Willow and Thomas' friends to lovers romance was one full of mutual pining and I loved every second of it. They both wanted each other's happiness and I especially liked the way that Thomas' viewed her. The romance is a clean romance consisting of descriptive kisses and no foul language. Aside from the sweet romance, I enjoyed discovering more about Willow and her interactions with her animal friends. I also liked the writer's description of the setting and how it perfectly captured autumn. This was such a swoony romance that gave me the same feelings of the classic Disney princess romances. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more from this author.

Willow lives in the woods in a hollowed out tree because the villagers do not like her she's an outcast. She looks different from them she has silver hair and black eyes the villagers think she's ugly so she chose to live in the woods only goes to the village to trade for supplies she needs. She also has gift she can talk to the animals of the woods. She has only one human friend his name is Thomas she's secretly in love with him but won't tell him because of how ugly she is and that no one likes her other than Thomas and the animals. Thomas buys willow a dress and he goes searching for her in the woods when gets there still searching for her he breaks his leg willow and her friend who's a fox finds him and they bring him to a cave where willow takes care of him. One day willow goes to a stream to get water and she sees a man standing there across from her and he looks just like her silver hair and black eyes. The man comes and talks to her and tells her she is fey and there are more like them and they take care of the woods and can talk to animals. Says willow is a fey princess and meet him tomorrow and he will take her to meet the king and queen her parents. The next day willow tells Thomas about the man and they both meet the man and follow him to her home. On the way the fey man tells Thomas that he can't be with Willow because he's human and she is already arranged to marry him. They arrive at the castle and willow meets her parents and gets to know them, read the book to find out if Willow has to marry the fey man or if her parents let her choose Thomas.

I 🤍LOVE the beautiful messages. One is about seeing yourself as you truly are and not how others see you. Willow is so beautiful inside and out. She cares for the creatures that others normally look down on and she cares for the people. If she didn't care so much she wouldn't worry about what they thought. The other message it has is about not giving up on the ones you🤍LOVE. Thomas saw Willow for who she truly was and was right about her being a treasure. No SPOILERS!!! I 🤍LOVED Thomas and Willow's love story. Thomas is so perfect for Willow. He doesn't give up on her and still allows her space to make up her own mind. Willow is also perfect for him, because of her sweet personality he sees things differently than he normally would. I 🤍LOVE the side characters too. Wes was so funny I was wondering why he was so ornery, but that is just his personality and it added a bit of humor to the tale. His wife was equally funny, but kept him in his place. The other side characters are ANIMALS. MAINLY A SQUIRREL!!!!🐿️ Their is a fox and I love him too, because he is the serious one, but Clover the squirrel is so funny. Especially when someone tries to eat his favorite snackies🤣. The owl was also a neat character, but the squirrel is my favorite.

I MOST HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, BECAUSE SQUIRREL 🤣 JUST KIDDING KIND OF. The romance, the mystery surrounding Willow, Thomas🥰, and adventure the characters at first unwillingly get stuck on is the second reason I recommend it🤣. The other thing I must mention is that it has hints of Christianity in it, which is 🤩AMAZING.

𝒟𝑜 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝒷𝑒𝓁𝒾𝑒𝓋𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝒶𝓊𝓉𝓎 𝒾𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝑒𝓎𝑒 𝑜𝒻 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝒷𝑒𝒽𝑜𝓁𝒹𝑒𝓇? 💕

This book is a story in the collection of Autumn Fairytales, but is also a side story in @kaylaeshbaughwrites fairytale series, The Cursed Kingdom Chronicles.🍂

The love story between Thomas the knight and Willow- a unique young lady who lives in the woods, speaks to animals and is different from others, is too cute for words!🥰

Firstly, Thomas has such a sweet and noble personality, always defending Willow and trying to help her believe just how wonderful her differences make her.🥹😍

And Willow has a personality you can’t help but love, with underdog vibes that have you rooting for her happily ever after from page one!👏🤞🏻

Oh, and did I mention the breaks in chapters are images of Clover the Squirrel? AKA- “her best friend” (quoted directly by him).🐿️🙈😂

I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the overall message of this book is heartwarming, powerful, and wrapped up in a story with a charming little bow. It has all the butterflies of romance with the secret/mistaken/ unknown identity vibes, and that being different doesn’t mean you’re any less than.❤️‍🩹

I think so many of you would love this Ugly Duckling retelling just as much as I did! 🤩

My overall rating for this lovely, well written tale is:

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 Stars

This is author is new to me this year but quickly became a favorite of mine! I definitely am looking forward to more of her writing.😍💕

A beautiful spin on the ugly duckling tale.

I loved that we got to learn more about the different kinds of fey in terra and we got to see the westwoods after they were first mentioned in Glass Midnight. We also got to see more of Wes and Ellie, which is always a treat. I loved how big a part nature played in this story as well, with a beautiful woodland setting.

Willow is such a kind and generous soul, despite all the negativity she receives from others due to the lingering tension between the subjects of Lune and Solea. She is also grateful for everything she has, never wishing for anything more. She appreciates Thomas' friendship and never takes it for granted. But it is hard, when everyone around you says you are ugly to see your own beauty and worth, so it's understandable that Willow doesn't believe anyone will want her, so she unknowingly hurts Thomas as she doesn't realise she's rejecting him. However, once she understands his feelings, she doesn't hesitate to fight for him.

Thomas is a very patient and thoughtful person, he has to be when dealing with Wes' pranks. He encourages Willow to see her own worth but doesn't rush her, understanding she will see it in her own time. He can let his insecurities get the best of him, wondering if Willow will ever return his feelings, but he is always ready to fight for her. Cultivating in a hard earned happy ending.

I love Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, and I had never read an Ugly Duckling retelling before, so I was definitely intrigued by this one.

What I liked about it:
🍁The Fall setting. I love fall! The cooler weather, the colors, the coziness of it. I also love fairs and festivals, and the Harvest Moon festival that Willow and Thomas attend sounds fun.
🍁Talking animals! Clover (an excitable squirrel) and Archie (a grumpy and endearing fox) were probably my favorite characters in this book!
🍁I also liked King Wes and his queen. They sound like a riot. Apparently I need to read Glass Midnight (the second book in Kayla's Cursed Kingdom Chronicles) for their story, and I do think I might have enjoyed Willow's and Thomas' story a litte more if I read that one first even though they can absolutely be read as stand-alones.
🍁The map at the beginning. The world Kayla created for this and her Cursed Kingdom Chronicles sounds fascinating and I am interested in learning more about it.
🍁Willow is very naive and oblivious in the beginning, which at first annoyed me a little, but then I started really comparing her to the duckling in the original story and it seemed to fit the character pretty well. In addition to that, I appreciated the communication between her and Thomas (because I really despise the miscommunication trope).

4.25⭐ 2 in the swoon department! (no spice)
I absolutely love this series! I am a huge fan of fairy tale retellings, and this series. It is truly unique, and the whole series are interconnected standalones. Normally, I would say that "You don't have to read them in order", but for this one, I would say that it's better if you read the Glass Midnight and then maybe the Moonlit Wings. The world-building for this series is amazing, and this one added to it in a great way. I did buy this one on Kindle since it wasn't available on KU, and I don't regret it!

This series is about the aftereffects of a human rebellion against the gods that ruled and protected them. The kingdoms that rebelled were cursed, while the ones that sided with the gods weren't. This story follows generations after the rebellion, where the heirs to the kingdoms are trying to reunite the kingdoms and break their curses. I was wary at first because I had read Moonlit Wings before this one, and so I did get a small spoiler, but honestly, I read these for the journey as well as the true love. Also, the premise to do a Ugly Duckling retelling is a hard thing to do right. This one is actually really well done for about 200 pages, and I enjoyed the story. It was cute and had some moments that made me giggle. Honestly loved the animal companions the best!

I loved the forest vibes in this book! Willow lives in a hollowed-out tree and spends her days with a heartwarming cast of woodland creatures. Each had a vibrant personality, and I loved how they supported Willow through her character transformation. Thomas was a true gentleman, always seeing the value in Willow and her uniqueness and treasuring her kindness over the “beauty” of the women in the village.

This novella is a side story from Eshbaugh’s Cursed Kingdom Chronicles and reads as a standalone. I haven’t read the other books in the main series, so I’m sure I missed some Easter eggs, but this was a lovely story nonetheless. My only dislike was that sometimes the world-building felt like the author was over-explaining who people were and what connections they shared, while other characters didn’t get enough page time to explain their wants and motivations. Still, this was my first time reading Eshbaugh’s work, and I look forward to exploring more of her Cursed Kingdom!

Willow and the Harvest Moon is part of the Autumn Fairy Tales multi-author series, which includes eight individual stories that can be read in any order.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book for review consideration and am voluntarily leaving a review. My opinions are my own.

Willow has been shunned for as long as she can remember. Her silver hair and black eyes make the villagers hate her. She feels much more at home in the willow circle with her animal companions. Although she wouldn’t mind if Thomas were around more often.

Thomas has long proven his steadfastness as the personal knight of the Masked Prince. So why, even after all these years, can he not tell Willow that he’s loved her for as long as he’s known her?

When Thomas breaks his leg and he and Willow get lost in magically appearing woods, they must do all they can to survive… and maybe find the courage to confess their feelings to each other.

Ugly Duckling Retellings are always so cute. If you ignore the improbable medical scenario and the magical solution, this is a really cute story. Willow and Thomas are well suited to each other, and I love how Willow came to accept herself in the end, despite how cruel many people were to her.

The talking animals were adorable too. I love that Thomas got his own story, as I really enjoyed getting to know him in Glass Midnight.

Four Roses
Light descriptions of a broken leg and setting it.
No swears
A few swoony kisses. And sharing a bed (NOT “only one bed” trope.)

I have to admit, the word "romantic" is not normally the first thing that pops into my head when I think of "The Ugly Duckling."

Or at least, it wasn't. Kayla Eshbaugh has forever changed that.

This story has all the cozy, autumn forest vibes you could ever wish for, and an adorable cast of woodland creatures that almost steal the show. But it also has two of the absolute sweetest characters to come out of the Cursed Kingdoms. I was so excited to hear that Sir Thomas was getting his own story. He's such a gentleman, and so kind and caring and protective of Willow, even when he's uncertain of her affection.

And Willow! She is absolutely a treasure. Her simple approach to the world and her desire to be loved just made me want to wrap her up in a hug. I loved the themes in this book of accepting yourself just as you are, and understanding your inherent worth. Her relationship with Thomas was so sweet and the perfect amount of swoony, and I really enjoyed watching as she slowly realized her own heart.

(Also, the cameos from a certain mischievous new king were the added icing on the cake. Wesley fans, rejoice!)

Loved the setup and her home in the tree and the animals, and how Thomas always came to visit her. And the upcoming Harvest Moon festival they are thinking about. So adorable and such a lovely cozy fall vibe.

That being said, I found the writing juvenile - like the prose is not very interesting or complex and the characters and story don't have the time they need to react realistically to what's going on. I liked the beginning better than the middle, where she finds out she's the fairy princess. I liked it better when it was more grounded, and she was just a girl living in the woods with more realistic problems. The characters are not 3D and the main couple are verrrry repetitive with their feelings of insecurity and not wanting to talk to the other person.

The vibe is great though, it's a 5 star vibe. But I had to skim the middle and end a lot because a lot of the story is boring. The setup is the best part.

Absolutely adorable tale

Wow! The Ugly Duckling is such a sad, heartbreaking tale but this author has taken the bones of that story and carved a truly amazing story of true love and acceptance.

Willow is such a pleasant protagonist. I have always been a fan of kind and loving protagonists and Willow is a wonderful addition to my list. Her ability to talk to animals makes it even better! There is definitely a traditional Disney Princess feel to her but she also comes with agency, belief in herself and a drive to suit her own happiness…all without being selfish.

Thomas is a sweetheart, so kind and willing up listen. He grew on me quickly as he not only is kind but genuinely respects Willow’s goals, and acts as a complement and not a missing piece. A welcomed change!

I felt at peace reading this, like walking along a steam in autumn. Will absolutely check the other books in the series!

Very inspiring take on the classic tale of The Ugly Duckling!

This is such a charming story! I could truly relate to the character Willow, having spent much of my own childhood feeling like I didn't fit in and that I myself was an ugly duckling. The messages of self-love and self-worth were loud and clear.

As an animal lover, I adored the characters of Archie, the grumpy fox, Clover the squirrel, and Molly the bunny! Animals love and accept us unconditionally; they think we are special no matter what we look like.

Also, I love the autumn vibes! This is my third story in the Autumn Fairytales collection and my first by Kayla Eshbaugh. I look forward to reading more of her stories. She is a master of slow burn romance! ❤️

I received this book as an ARC from the author. All thoughts in this review are mine and mine alone.

Perfect Fall Read for Animal Lovers

First of all, this book was so beautifully formatted. I admired that from the very first page. But much more than that, I love that this is a story about self-acceptance and self-love. The romance was very sweet between Willow and Thomas, with plenty of pining for each other while not wanting to reveal their feelings in case the other doesn't feel the same way.

I think Archie and Clover (the fox and squirrel) were my favorite parts. Archie's grumpiness didn't prevent him being loyal, and Clover being convinced that Thomas was going to eat Willow because he looks at her the same was Clover looks at his breakfast make me laugh.

Super cute read, perfect for animal fans!

This book brings a unique and refreshing spin on the Ugly Duckling retelling. Willow is used to looking and being different from others. She grows throughout the book and finds self-acceptance and love. This book has many positive messages and shows the reader that you don't have to change yourself to be accepted by others. The fall and forest scenes were written very well and had detailed descriptions. The romance between the main characters were sweet and affectionate. The animals in the book were cute and my favorite was Clover the bunny. Overall, this cozy fairytale retelling is perfect to read for any season. 🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊🐇🦊

What a cute story! Everyone needs a Thomas! He has always cared for Willow and their encounter in the Westwoods was cute too! Willow didn’t look like the rest of the villagers, but that never bothered Thomas. He rather liked her sliver-white hair and black eyes. He even defended her when the village girls made fun of her. When Thomas and Willow found out she was a Silver fry princess, they knew things were going to be different between them. But Thomas didn’t want to lose her and needed to tell Willow how he feels. Silas threw in a wrench and tried to break them apart, but Willow didn’t want to lose Thomas either! The Harvest Moon encounter is so sweet too. Loved it! Thank you Author Kayla Eshbaugh for an arc copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one sucked me into the story immediately. I loved the world building and the pace of this one throughout. Willow and Thomas were adorable and a great representation of friends to more.

Willow was sweet and patient. I loved her relationship with the wild animals and the comic relief they added to the story. They made for great side characters! Thomas was protective and loyal. He stood by Willow no matter what. Their story had mystery and intrigue. I loved the interesting turn it took and all the layers and unknown backstory of Willow's past. There were so many layers to Willow's history but also Thomas and his relationship with Willow but also the King. I really enjoyed their story!

Eshbaugh created this fantastic world and I feel like I have stepped inside the woods and I am experiencing everything they encounter. She has a great way with words! I couldn't put this book down and now I know I need more of the books in the Cursed Kingdom series. Eshbaugh has gained another fan!!

You know Kayla Eshbaugh as a master at bringing all the sweet and swoony romance, and this novella does not disappoint. This is an Ugly Duckling retelling that you will just totally "fall" in love with. 😉

This story was just sooo sweet. I love the budding relationship between Willow and Thomas, and the adorably fun animal friends. Thomas was so gentle with Willow, and she was so kind back to him that their sweet relationship was incredibly cozy, warm and romantic.

The themes of self acceptance and confidence were refreshing and uplifting. I'll definitely be coming back to this book every fall. I can't recommend this lovely, romantic autumn read enough! 🍁🧡🍂
