3.5 ⭐️ It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t above average either — nothing particularly special or engaging for me.
I did like that it felt honest and self-reflective, but overall it came across as a bit chaotic, kind of like the guy himself. It felt like he wanted to say something, but at the same time didn’t fully commit to it — like he’d take a stance and then later either contradict it, or the story itself would create that contradiction.
The interview at the end was a nice touch, and I always appreciate it when the author reads their own work.
I listened to it as an audio, and the preview of the next book unfortunately was the same story he already told in this one, though with more details.
I enjoyed learning about the struggles and real life insights on a special forces soldier. This book seemed startlingly honest about the authors experiences and how they shaped him as a person but also provided a look into the post service life of a soldier.
A very good read and insight into life through the military and special forces. Ollie was not what I expected him to be so it just shows not to judge a book by its cover!
