Lyn grew up loving books. Her favorite night of the week was Friday night, when the Bookmobile came to her neighborhood in Illinois. She’d spend those two hours chatting with the driver of the Bookmobile and the librarian and making the big decision of the week — which books to check out! In those distant days, children were limited in how many books they could check out. Lyn could only take home six a week — and there were so many to choose from. Her favorites were Cotton in my Sack by Lois Lenski, The Little House series and the One of a Kind Family series. Later, she discovered Georgette Heyer’s Regency romances! This love of books led to a desire to write. Lyn won prizes in high school and college for her poetry and, not surprisingly, Lyn became a history and English teacher. When she became a mother, she gave up teaching, and while raising a son and a daughter, she began working on her first novel. Then she wrote her second and third. Long years of rejection followed — as it does for most writers. Finally in 1997, Lyn got "the call." Her first book, Never Alone, was chosen to appear in the first year of the new Love Inspired line. Lyn has written many articles on writing and the emerging Christian Booksellers Assoc. (CBA) fiction market. In 2006, Lyn's book, Chloe, is a finalist for the RWA's RITA, the highest award in the romance genre in the inspirational category. Now, Lyn spends her days writing books that show the power of divine as well as human love. Her nest is empty and she and her real life hero, her husband, have more and more time to spend together in their home on a lake in the lovely northwoods. And books are still dear to her heart.
This story dealt with preconceived notions about people, especially from Marco’s point of view. He felt that Abby was out of reach for him, even though he cared for her both in the present story and ten years earlier. Marco carried around a lot of burdens from his past and felt that he needed to achieve as much on his own as he could in order to not be beholden to others. He had a lot of growing to do throughout the book and often his initial grumpy reactions to events led to some brooding and the need for someone, such as his mother, to talk some sense into him.
I found Abby to be a very kind, loving, and patient person. I liked seeing the way she was able to get Marco to eventually open up. She had cared for him years ago, as well, and hoped that maybe they would finally get a chance at love.
This is the second book in the Preacher’s Daughters series, however, the stories can be enjoyed on their own.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Abby decided to move to where her Grandmother lives and discovers a man who is now a Doctor, she knew him at university. A lovely but also sad in parts of the story as they reconnect and Marco comes to realize he has been holding onto things he shouldn’t be and having difficulty allowing God to free him up and become the msn and Doctor (and husband) he is meant to be. Abby is opposite to Marco but truly wants to help him… Great story with positive Christian content.
Abby’s Second Chance by Lyn Cote The Preacher’s Daughters Series Book Two Abby Kirkland has decided to spend more time with her great-aunt Geneva in Florida this year. Abby always felt she’d move there if she ever felt her aunt needed family nearby. She looked forward to the visit and two months out of cold and snowy Wisconsin. Dr. Marco Da Palma had worked hard to get where he was. He had no time for fun, only work. Marco carried his past on his shoulders, and that weight continued to push him to achieve. He never expected to see Abby again, the beautiful girl from college, but there she was. He had no idea how seeing her again would change his life. I loved this story. Abby struggled with her mom’s health; she was in remission from leukemia. Marco struggles with his past. Wonderful characters and storyline! **Tissue alert https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Abby's Second Chance is a Christian, inspirational, second chance romance. This well written book is a sweet love story, but even more than I enjoyed watching Marco give up his pride and misconceptions and finally give Abby a chance, I enjoyed Marco's mother and sister, Abby's aunt Geneva and the supporting cast of Matilda, Lupe, Rosita and the rest. I love a good romance, but they are even better when they are accompanied by family! I just sat down and made time for this book in my day. I highly recommend Abby's Second Chance.
I liked this story about the preacher's daughter Abby. She has spirit & doesn't step back from a challenge. Dr. Marco is the "I have to do it myself to get it done". So their reunion has sparks that may hinder or help their relationship. Someone has to give in for their relationship to progress. Independence is not always the right answer. I received an ARC. I freely choose to write this review.
A beautiful ending. Abby has a great deal going on in her life with her mom, her aunt, where she wants her life to go, and perhaps her feelings for Marco. Marco on the hand has his own issues to deal with. The story and the characters are very realistic. As the story progresses you see both main characters grow. It is a very moving piece and one I would recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
