A terrible tragedy sends her home to heal. Will his unexpected love convince her to stay? After a devastating loss, wild game hunter Rexanna Brennan returns home to her family's ranch to heal. She never expects to learn her crazy aunt has left her a pink pistol with an even crazier legend. But more unsettling, a Hollywood cowboy has moved onto the ranch, stealing her family's hearts and maybe her legacy, too.
False accusations throw Roan Bertoletti into scandal and yank him out of his movie star life. His reputation shredded, he grasps at the second chance the Brennan family gives him. With his roots firmly planted, he's living his dream to be a cowboy again, and he has no plans to leave the ranch anytime soon.
But Rexanna's grief pulls at him. So does her insistence she can't stay. Can he convince the beautiful heiress to claim what has always been hers? Time is running out, and so are his options.
While expecting my first child (more years back than I care to count), I read my very first romance novel, and I've been in love with them ever since. I grew up in the ranch country of western Nebraska, and it was inevitable I’d eventually write lots of books about cowboys. I still live in Nebraska with my husband (who is not a cowboy), four married daughters and a whole slew of perfect grandchildren.
I'm a long-time member of RWA and RAH, my local chapter. I'm also one of the founders of Petticoats & Pistols, a popular blogsite for western romance. I love to cook, hang out at my lake cabin, and decorate birthday cakes for anyone who will let me.
The story is the seventh in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series and revolves around a special, pink pearl-handled pistol, entrusted to Annie Oakley, and asked to be passed along to a young lady. When she finds love, she is to pass it along to another—and so forth.
“She who possesses this pistol, possesses an opportunity that must not be squandered. Cast in the tender dreams of maidens from ages past, the steel of this weapon is steadfast and true and will lead an unmarried woman to a man forged from the same virtuous elements. One need only fit her hand to the grip and open her heart to activate the promise for which this pistol was fashioned—the promise of true love. Patience and courage will illuminate her path. Hope and faith will guide her steps until her heart finds its home. Once the promise is fulfilled, the bearer must release the pistol and pass it to another or risk losing what she has found. Accept the gift—or not. Believe its promise—or not. But hoard the pistol for personal gain—and lose what you hold most dear.”
Another wonderful addition to the series—this time it is 1955—and this story will begin in Alaska on a big game hunt—but one that comes with tragedy. Rexanna Brennan and Roan Bertoletti are both dealing with tragedies and disasters. Neither one looking for someone, yet fate, and a pink-handled pistol seems to bring them together at the T bar M Ranch.
The story’s plot may begin in Alaska, but It will continue at the graveside of Aunt Trixie. Rexanna Brennan lost her parents when she was fifteen and was raised by her Aunt. She had learned the art of shooting from her grandparents and then she started a big game outfit with a friend where they would take clients to various places around the world. Rules were always laid out, especially to keep everyone safe. It is one client who decides to do things her way that leads to her death. First, Rexanna is devastated by the loss of Annie—and then to learn her Aunt has died. That brings her back home to Wallace, Kansas, and the T bar M Ranch.
I liked the story, the characters, and the fact that not everything you see, read, or hear is facts. Roan Bertoletti is living proof of that. With the help of a friend, he is now working at the T bar M Ranch and seems to be respected by those who have given him a fair chance, and gotten to know the real man—not the tabloids fall guy. The story is about accepting responsibility, and reality, and acknowledging that it is ok to come home and start a new life—for Rexanna. For Roan, it is starting over, back to what used to matter to him before he lost his mother when he was fourteen and went to live in Los Angeles, with his father.
“I’ve always loved the traveling, but now I’m dreading it, and it’s your fault, Roan. Yours and Grandma’s and the pink pistol’s. All of you came at me with your barrels locked and loaded, and I didn’t have a chance to fight against any of you.”
I enjoyed the story and characters and always love a happily-ever-after ending.

As a writer of blogs and articles myself, I always strive for the “hook,” or the focus of interest, to capture the reader’s curiosity. In her novel, Armed and Marvelous, the author has fashioned one of the most incredible, heart-stopping and terrifying prologues this reviewer has ever read. Novel #7 of 11 in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series, takes place in the 1950’s. Big game hunter and professional guide Rexanna Brennan returns to her family ranch to heal after two devastating funerals, one she feels responsible for. Seeking solitude, who should be also staying at the ranch but none other than Roan Bertoletti, disgraced movie actor, who has been driven out of Hollywood by a scandal that he had nothing to do with. So, two broken, hurting people are trying to find solace in each other but Roan is staying for keeps with Rexanna’s grandparents while Rexanna wants to leave as soon as possible. Her dear late aunt has left a strange box on the mantle and inside rests the legendary pink pistol dating clear back to Annie Oakley. The author does a masterful job highlighting the powerful emotional ties between what is left of Rexanna’s nuclear family. She is the last of her line and her grandparents want her to stay on the lucrative family ranch which she now owns. Roan wants her to stay because he’s falling for her as the pink pistol performs its silent work on both of them. What a story! And there is so much more
Harrowing, nail-biting, and shocking… And that’s just the first chapter of this phenomenal book, Armed And Marvelous!!!!
Rexanna owns a big game hunting guide. She not only owns it, but she personally take the clients out to exotic places for their trophy prizes. When the unthinkable happens she is devastated. Then she receives news that her Aunt Trixi has passed. Going back home to Wallace, Kansas and T Bar M Ranch, will change her life forever.
Roan is working at the T Bar M Ranch, after being devastated and shunned by Hollywood from a scandalous tabloid, now he’s back in his true element, as a cowboy.
When Rexi meets Roan, she is anything but cordial and trustworthy of the Hollywood hunk. Can these two look past old faults each have endured and truly focus on what is in their hearts??
A beautiful book of of acceptance, finding one’s own self, and true love.
Pam Crooks is such an amazing author. Her characterization, descriptive scenes, and gripping plot had me pulled into Armed and Marvelous. This book truly swept me away.
This is book 8 in the pink pistol sisterhood series and tells us the story of Rexanna. Rexanna is a guide for big game hunters in the 1950s. A tragic accident occurs on a hunt and then a few days later her aunt dies. When she goes back home for her aunts funeral she decides to stay for a little while to deal with her grief. She inherits her aunts house and when she was looking around finds a box on the mantel that contains the pink pistol and the story behind it.While there she meets Roan Bertoletti an ex movie star who had to leave Hollywood because of a scandal. She spends time getting to know Roan and when she gets a phone call and has to leave she's torn about leaving to do her job and wanting to stay with Roan. Is the pink pistol legend working again? This book is a stand along but is better read in order to understand the legend of the pistol. I received an arc in return for a honest opinion.
This is my favorite of this pink pistol sisterhood series, so far. The beginning scene of the book was suspenseful and tense and hooked me from the very beginning. It takes place in an earlier time (1950s)
Rexi had experienced an incredible tragedy and needed to step away for a little while. When she learned of her aunt's death, she went back to visit her grandparents and discovered they had hired a handsome cowboy with a story of his own tragedy. Roan had escaped Hollywood after a horrible lie ruined his life and career. He finally felt safe on the Brennan family's ranch. He hoped that Rexi would feel the same and want to stay. Maybe the pink handled pistol will help. . .
This was a wonderful, clean, sweet romance of two wounded souls that found one another, as well as peace and hope for a brighter future.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I have so thoroughly enjoyed this series but Pam Crooks is a new to me author. I was captivated from the very first chapter and the more I read, the more I realized how well this author researched her subject. From wild game hunting, to fashion, to furniture, to hairstyles, all the way to Hollywood, Pam Crooks put you right back in the fifties. Brylcreem? Who even remembers it today? A tragic accident and a horrible lie send both Rexanna and Roan to the ranch that Rexanna grew up on. The pink pistol is in a box on Aunt Trixie's mantel but no one knows where it came from. The mysterious note inside the box promises true love to the possessor of the gun which has been passed from woman to woman originating with Annie Oakley. I will not spoil the plot for those who have not read it but I will say it's a great read!
Armed and Marvelous by Pam Crooks is the eighth book in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood Series. This is the first book by this author that I have read but it will not be the last. This book is the story of Rexanna Brennan who is a wild, game hunter. After suffering a devastating loss, she returns home for her aunt's funeral to find her grandparents have hired disgraced actor, Roan Bertoletti, as their ranch hand. This is a short story, but there is much packed into that little space. This story is inspiring with its themes of family and fellowship. I loved this story and I plan to read all of the books in the series.
I would like to thank the author, Pam Crooks, for an advanced reader copy of the book it in no way influenced my opinion of the book.
This is a different look at this legend, yet totally enjoyable. A woman business owner in 1955 in a man’s arena, Rexanna ran an outfitting company guiding hunters in search of exotic animals all over the world. Roan had been caught up in “wilds” of Hollywood, part of the studio contract system. He was framed and his reputation ruined and hazed out to live his life on a ranch in Kansas. It was her grandparents ranch that she had come to heal from an awful tragedy. This series is based on an interesting premise, with the pink pistol being passed down from Annie Oakley helping to find true love. Clean. I received this as an ARC, but I also purchased it for my library.
This series has been wonderful in the sense that it has introduced new authors and covered a wide timeline historically. Needless to say that “Armed and Marvelous “ is no exception. It covers has a very disturbing account in the Prologue that is necessary to the story which the author handles in a sensitive manner. When Rexanna faces a horrible incident during her wild game hunt gone wrong, she returns to her family ranch in order to grieve and faces the death of a beloved aunt. She also finds a man whose bad reputation precedes him working on the ranch with her grandparents. Does he pose a threat to her family or are the tabloids wrong about him? Will the Pink Pistol be able to work its magic on her before she leaves again?
Does it work even though it isn’t fired? Rexanna inherited it at her aunt’s death, doesn’t believe the stories are real and kept it on the mantle. Her first visitor at her new property is Roan, who works for her grandparents. Alas, she has been told he is an unworthy person, and her hackles rise. When he introduces her to her alpacas and tells her she is now responsible for their care since she now owns them, she immediately gets defensive. Who is he to tell her what to do? The story caught my interest early and kept it throughout. My only comment is that, yes, this is a closed-door romance, but the kisses are a bit spicier than some of the other Pink Pistol stories.
Rexanna needs to go home to hide from life for a little while and heal from her grief. Roan needs to flee the mess that his life has become. They both find themselves on the T Bar M Ranch.
Life gets more complicated between them because of a beautiful little pink pistol and the legend that comes with it.
But one of them must leave and the other must stay…
A pleasing addition to the Pink Pistol Sisterhood. I couldn’t help but hurt with Rexanna as she tries to figure out what her choice should be. Roan is very compassionate with others and needs someone to believe in him.
Next wonderful book in the Pink Pistol series this one by Pam Crooks. Rexanna is a guide for big game hunters who has suffered two tragedies in a very short time. She returns home to Kansas for a funeral and meets a movie star, Roan, that she thinks was abusive while in Hollywood. Rexanna doesn’t want to be affected by his charm like everyone in her family seems to. When she realizes he really is a good person, she struggles with her attraction. She has a life ego get back to. Can Roan convince her to stay on the ranch? *I received this book as an ARC reader and am leaving my unbiased review.
This 8th book in the Pink Pistol Sisterhood is a fun read. Rexianna leads big game hunting expiditions and owns her own outfitting company. When her spinster Aunt passes away, Rexianna returns to her roots in Wallace Kansas to attend the funeral, only to find out she inherited everything her aunt had. Once she goes to the T bar M ranch, she meets her grandpa's cowhand, Roan, a famous movie star, forced to leave California because of a lying scandal. Amongst her Aunt's belongings, Rexi finds a beautiful wooden box containing a Pink mother-of-pearl handled pistol along with it's history and love stories. Cute story!
I'm starting this series with book 8 as I was gifted an audiobook, so I hope the earlier books explain the Pink Pistol in more detail. Right now it's just an odd quirk to the story. A bit of magic I guess. I don't really enjoy fantasy, so honestly that's my least favorite part of the story. But I enjoyed the romance. The narration was good. Nothing wrong exactly, just a bit stilted maybe. Sometimes it's hard to explain my feelings on paper. She did a good job making the characters all sound different which is one of the hardest things to do. I just don't think this story was the best fit maybe.
Not as good as the others in this series. I was cn't crazy about game hunters killing animals..bears in this story...or their fur. It's cruel & noone should make money off of guiding people to trophy hunt. Where I live, it's done for ducks, geese, & deer. I also miss the author telling 'how the pistol came to be a t its present location. The first books showed a path of the gun's travels. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story. The characters felt real enough. Little action happened, though the reporter scene was fairly good. This book just wasn't up to the standard I'd expected from this author.
After a terrible tragedy, Rexana returns home to her family's ranch to heal. There she learns of the inheritance left to her by her eccentric aunt, including a pink pistol. She also meets Roan who is also healing emotionally from being betrayed by a female co-star during his movie star years.
I enjoyed getting to know both Rexana and Roan. Rexana did come off a bit judgmental and stubborn at times which was a little bit of a turnoff. I did see growth in her which helped. I also really enjoyed the insight the author gave into what life was like living in the 1950's. Overall, it was an entertaining read.
An exciting read! I fell in love with the wonderful characters right from the start. The lifestyles they lived were interesting, and entertaining pulling the reader into a world of excitement that quickly changes into pitty. A great romance that was both beautiful and charged with electricity. Once again I find myself rooting for the pink pistol to work in the hearts of the couple it aims for. I really enjoyed this book, it kept me hanging on to every page! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I’m in love with The Pink Pistol Sisterhood series! I’ve discovered a new author to me and her writing style is impressive – love the story and the plot! “His gaze returned to Rexanna, but less teasing this time. ‘Some folks need to be alone to work out their troubles. Others need the strength that comes from being with family to get them through it.’ He gave her shoulders a firm squeeze. ‘What’ll it be for you, Rexi?’” I received an ARC of this book for review. I was not required to write a favorable review. All opinions in this review are my own.
Rexanna is a big game hunter. She is devastated when a young client is killed when the client disobeys instructions. She returns home when her aunt who raised her dies. Roan is an ex-movie actor who has returned to his roots of being a cowboy after the media destroys his career.
The story is good, but there are no Christian aspects at all. The other books I have read in this series have contained good Christian principles. I found this quite disappointing.
I received a copy of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and unbiased.
Set in the 50s, this 8th book of the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series gives readers a real treat. I thoroughly enjoyed all the mentions of that era and old Hollywood. A handsome actor flees to Kansas, hoping to escape the scandal he left behind only doesn't quite make it. Rexanna has already read the Hollywood gossip magazines, complete with pictures, and has formed her own opinion. This is such a fun story packed with conflict, heated romance, and pure heart. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pam Crooks is expert at writing her characters into trouble then seeing how she'll get them out. So much fun.
I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Wild game hunter, Rexanna Brennan returns home to the family ranch after losing a young woman in a bear attack. Her aunt had died leaving her a house and three alpacas to care for. New ranch hand and former scandal ridden Hollywood star, Raon Bertoletti challenges her to remain home and assist her aging grandparents on the ranch. An uplifting story about grief, finding purpose, and reevaluating life choices.
Another delightful addition to the Pink Pistol series. Rexanna has made a name for herself as a big game guide, Roan has had his name dragged through the mud and is finished with Hollywood. When Rexanna returns to the family ranch for a funeral she is torn between her family ranch heritage, her career and attraction to Roan - who if you believe the media, is a cheating cad. All it not as it seems but sorting out things isn't straightforward. Looking forward to the next book. I received an ARC but this review is my own.
This book is part of the Pink Pistol Sisterhood series. I've loved all of the books in the series, and this one is no different. Rexanna Brennan returns home for her aunt's funeral and also to get away from the awful loss that occurred on her last big game hunt. She meets Roan Bertoletti there, living on her grandparents' ranch. She has read some things about him and doesn't trust him. But, that does change. The book is easy to read and quite good. I loved how the author kept the pink pistol involved. I highly recommend this book.
At first I did not like either of the main characters. They did grow on me, but the whole story felt rushed. I know it was supposed to be a short story, but it seemed like the author spent a lot of time at the beginning and then realized she had to finish it so just wrapped it up in a couple pages. I read it digitally so didn’t notice how many pages I had left, but given the pacing of the story, I was surprised to turn the page and see that the next page was the beginning of the epilogue. If it makes a difference to you, beer is casually consumed in one scene.
Loved the story! This is my voluntary review of a copy I received from the author.
I loved the story. The romance had them falling in love against her will. (One of my favorite tropes.)
I love that Roan's character was so solidly shown in how he treated others that no one was willing to believe the accusations printed against him. Out of concern, he spoke some hard truths to Rexanna.
But she can't stay. She still has a business to run on the other side of the continent....
What a powerful and marvelous story! Love this series! A scandal ends an actor's career, then she walks into his new world. Will she believe the scandal or him?
Thanks to the author for providing this book for my honest review!
Reasons I enjoyed this book: Romantic Witty Wonderful characters Entertaining Easy-to-read Whimsical Unpredictable Happily Ever After Original Page-turner Realistic Tragic
This is my first by this author. This book is part of a multi author series which is why I grabbed it. I’ve always liked movie star romances. This book had tragedy and grief and a fun pink pistol legend thread. It was a fun romance set just a bit back in the 50s. I enjoyed the characters and the adventures and the different lifestyles represented.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Wow! A fantastic book! I loved everything about it! The imagery was spectacular! The characters are relatable and genuine! My favorite is Rexanna! She's strong, capable, and competent. Roan is a favorite too! He's devoted, compassionate, and caring! The love story is romantic and sweet! The legend of the pink pistol continues! A definite must read! I was provided a copy of the book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Love this Series! A tragedy and family loss brings Rexanna home to Kansas for a short visit. Then she finds the Pink Pistol and read’s the legend. But it can’t be for her---she has a very active life to get back to in California! The author does a great job of taking us back to 1955 and you won’t be able to put this one down until you finish. Don’t miss this sweet, inspiring romance from Pam Crooks!
