MK Robert is a French-Canadian writer. She started writing as a teenager. Being a writer was always her dream and 15 years later she finally made that dream come true with her debut novel The Siren’s Seduction with Co-Writer Maggie Bonnet.
First of all can we just give a special shout-out to that dedication? That teacher is a horrid cow and I hope she sees MK’s words someday.
This was such a dichotomy of feelings for me. Like it was dark, and emotional and very, very smutty but it was also a bit insta-love and sweet too.
I liked that karma came for Becky, Tara, Wendy and Paul too. All well deserved.
Only reason I’m not giving it a full 5 stars is that I’m not really a fan of FF so that took away from the story for me. Overall though, I did enjoy the book. It’s not my usual genre and yet I found myself hooked from start to finish. Definitely worth the read!
It's time for the Brighton High School 10 year reunion! This time we follow Abby and Jess as they head back to Brighton while Abby faces those who tormented her all those years ago.
Working in a morgue with her best friend Jess as a detective is a dream for the women. They get to be a team and solve the crimes. Their feelings for one another are also very strong, both in friendship and intimacy. When the leader of the pack of bullies ends up crossing their path, secrets are revealed.
Heading back for the reunion puts them in contact with their old high school crushes, Kris and Jayden. Kris and Jayden also have their secret and reasons for doing what they do. Can these secrets and traumas be overcome for a happily ever after?
I received an advance review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
⭐️⭐️⭐️½ “I’m going to make you cum until you can’t use your legs anymore.”
Damaged Goods is a short read from the Brighton High School Reunion shared world. There is little character development or relationship building, but the smut is very spicy. Reconnecting after ten years, the formerly bullied for being fat FMC, Abigail, and the single parent MMC, Kristopher, dive into a fast-burn relationship. Abigail pined for Kristopher for years. Kristopher wanted her but never acted on his desire for “reasons”. Their high school reunion allowed them to act on the decade-long attraction.
I actually preferred the FF besties-with-benefits component over the MF between Abigail and Kristopher. The relationship between Abigail and her best friend, Jess, was more genuine than the unrequited love finally realized after ten years of pining. I was saddened that the best friends' relationship took backstage (even though Abigail told Kristopher she intended to explore that dynamic despite him being in the picture).
Damaged Goods is a fast-burn, spicy romance with FF, MF, and a group scene (MFFM). There is a bit of dubcon where Kristopher drugs Abigail in a club and has sex with her while wearing a mask. The drugs made her insatiable, but he was a stranger to her, and she wasn’t in control of her faculties. All other interactions are entirely consensual.
Genre: Contemporary Romance Tropes/Features: Dark elements, morally grey MMC, second chance, bully, fat shaming, drug use, drugged sex, pierced peen, insta-lust, besties with benefits, bi-awakening FF Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV Relationship Type: Why Choose FF and MF, fast burn, spicy Book Type/Ending: Standalone in Brighton High School Reunion shared world, HEA TW/CW: Available in book
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 ⭐️ Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶 Dark Rating: 🖤🖤
Another book to be released in the Brighton High Reunion series. MK gives us the story of Abby, a young woman who was horribly bullied in high school all because she was fat. After high school, Abby takes on running to help her to get fit and lives a pretty decent life working in a morgue while her high school bestie works for the same department as a detective.
We are then introduced to Kris, a guy Abby had the biggest crush on in high school but never had the courage to confess those feelings to him. Kris is dealing with with a toxic ex wife and a very ugly custody battle for his daughter. With legal fees and all the BS, Kris has to resort to selling expired drugs from his father's pharma company to his best friend to have money to get his daughter back. But what happens when bodies show up in Abby's morgue from drug overdoses and how does this impact what happens when Abby & Kris cross paths and their old feelings come out? You have to read this novella to find out.
You don't know what to expect in this story but there is a HEA in the end.
This book isn't a 5 star read for me as I wasn't sure what exactly happens between Jess and Abby by the end and epilogue. Plus, I would love an extended book or maybe just a novella of what happens with Jayden and Jess. Not cliffhangers but my curiosity is peaked and I want to know lol
There are bully & dark elements to this book so please be sure to check TW before reading!
My people we are nearing the end of an amazing interconnected series🥹🥹 This is the tenth installment of the Brighton high school reunion series and it was just amazing. We finally meet Abigail!!! (We met her, kinda of in Dominic’s book Reuniting with Desire) we see how she managed to better herself and escape the bullying that she went through. Abigail has always been in love with Kristopher but never went for it because she believed he would never like her as something more. Little did she know he was obsessed with her. Cue many years later, the reunite😏 and may I say the reunion was hot🥵🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Kristopher has been in a custody battle that has left him high and dry. He decided to do some illegal work to be able to cost all the lawyers. This was a fast paced spicy romance mixed with drugs😂😂🥵🥵 It was interesting to see Abigails thought process as she was bullied and to when she contemplated ending her life. I felt seen with her tbh. She truly escaped and deserved to find her happiness no matter what. What I’m waiting for is Jess and Jayden’s book!! Like that woman loves him so much that I cannot believe she did that (you MUST READ TO FIND OUT!) This author killed it!
Another BHSR, that introduces us to MK Roberts who delves into the story of Abigail and Kristopher.
This story has a bit of everything in it and doesn’t concentrate poorly on the reunion aspect and delves into the inner workings of our characters prior to and after the reunion with that bit in between of the haters getting put in their place. Within this story we also have the Jess and Jayden.
What would you do to get your daughter back, to make sure she is away from her abuser – you would do whatever you could and this is what Kris does and is willing to do whatever he can to get his daughter under his roof.
This is not your normal bully to lovers story but is something deeper and darker. The characters are developed throughout this story and I honestly did not see how things were going to turn out. There is twist and turns and spice. Great story.
Abigail left Brighton ten years ago and is head of the city morgue, and her best friend Jess is a detective. They decide to go back to Brighton fox the ten year reunion. She was bullied badly by Becky and her friends. In high school Jess and her boyfriend Jayden, and her crush Kris stood up for her. Before they leave there is a fentanyl overdose deaths that they are trying to figure out. Will they see Kris and Jayden ? Will they find out what’s going on with the overdoses? Great characters and storyline Highly recommended Amazing book. Love Abigail, Jess, Kris, and Jayden. Great supporting characters and the twists and turns were amazing. The spice was very nice. This is my first book by this author definitely not my last.
So I want to start off by saying the dedication of this book was gold. I absolutely loved it. I felt the emotion in that dedication.
This story is mainly mf with a small amount of ff. But it was very brief, talked about and then never mentioned again which is one reason I’m rating this 4 stars instead of 5. I would’ve liked to have known what went down with that.
Abigail is the main female character. She was horrendously shy and tormented in high school. She was also very in love with her best friend, Jessica’s’ boyfriends best friend but nothing came from that as she was painfully shy. Being painfully shy is something I can do relate to, so I was able to empathize with the character. Ten years later she’s still best friends with Jessica and works in a morgue alongside Jessica who is a detective.
Kris is the male main character. He was the boy Abigail was in love with. Now ten years later he went through a horrible divorce and is fighting tooth and nail to get his daughter back. To be able to do that he is illegally selling expired pharmaceuticals. He will do anything to get his daughter back.
This story is about karma, second chances, retribution, romance, and has a happily ever after. There is mild spice in the story, as well as other issues including drugs and overdosing. This story turned out different than I thought it was going to go in the beginning and was a pleasant surprise.
Overall this novella is a quick read. It’s fast paced, and does end in a happily ever after.
Abby and kris's story is one of heartbreak. Abby was tormented through high school, her only solace was her best friend Jess. When Jess started seeing jayden she noticed Kris. She had the biggest crush on him, but it seemed he didn't care and always seemed to watch when the bullies got to her. Unbeknownst to her, Kris tried to get the bully to stop, but it backfired every time turning it into something worse. Ten years later and they meet again at a club. This was fast paced and had fantastic spice. I felt for both these characters and the struggles they dealt with both in school and later in life. Would love to see an extended epilogue or novel about these two.
Not Mk knocking it out the gate! Man, I always say if she's writes it imma read it. And damn did she do her thing! Not only does Abby have my dream job, but she's a boss ! 5 stars is nothing . Especially with that spice! I literally got the book, and in an hour, I was done. I was freaking consumed ! This is probably my favorite of the whole world series . Definitely don't sleep on this!!!!
Abby and Kris’s story is interesting. We had some bullying while someone just looked on not helping. 10 years later we get to see Abby as a boss b*tch who works in a morgue. Kris is in a custody battle for his daughter. He makes some questionable choices I won’t say more because I don’t want to spoil it.
Wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book. I picked it up mainly because I loved her Viking Saga. While this one is contemporary, I enjoyed it more than I expected to.
Abigail has come a long way from being the bullied girl in high school. She left her hometown along with her best friend, and now she's going back for her high school reunion. Once again, she's seeing her high school crush Kristopher. Life has definitely diverged for them. She works alongside law enforcement, and he's definitely not following the law. Together, their chemistry is explosive. Is it finally their time to be together?
This is very much a fast burn story. While this is Abigail and Kristopher's story, there is ff in this. Overall, it is a very enjoyable short story that keeps your attention.
Amazing!!! Y’all the spicy scenes were impressive!! I was sitting here 🥵😅🥵😅🥵💦 Damn Jess and Abby get it! I’m stunned by the amount of emotions exuded from the pages. Giving us a close connection with the characters that gave me all the anxiety, excitement, worry, fear, anger and joy that they felt. This book gave me so much happiness at the ending to see their journey come to completion.
Totally worth the read!! It’s not often I read a book about the main male character already being a dad. But the moment I found out I was hooked!! If it hadn’t been for work I’d have read this in one sitting guaranteed!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Two world collide after 10 years apart. Unrequited love from both parties. 1 went into law, another into a life of crime, to fix a wrong that’s been done.
This story was very well written, but was a little more fast paced than I would have liked. I adored Kris in the middle, def didn’t like him in the beginning, but I understood.
Also the FF scenes were hot, but it kind of never was brought up again which was disappointing.
This was such an addictive read. Once I started Damaged Goods I couldn't put it down!
Abigail and Kris weren't meant to be in high school, even though Abigail had the biggest crush on him, but 10 years later and the circumstances are finally right. Damaged Goods definitely gave me the one who got away vibes.
There are some dark themes in this book and a whole lot of smutty goodness.
I absolutely loved book but I am getting so sad we’re getting closer to the end of the series. This was such a fast pace read and I devoured it in literally no time at all. We got Abby and Kris’ story this time. Poor Abby was straight out thru nonstop bs and Kris was one of the popular kids who secretly loved Abby in high school but never acted on it. Now 10 years later and in time for the reunion we get to learn all the secrets on what Kris was really thinking. Kris story did hit a soft spot for me though when dealing with a nasty divorce because I grew up dealing with that nonsense with my parents too. Different circumstances but upsets me off when adults can’t be adults when it comes to their children. We also got a peak into Jess and Jayden and honestly I am so excited to see their story in the final book.
Now my absolute favorite all time part is the dedication. That’s when I knew I was going to just love this story and I was not wrong.
Damaged Goods is the tenth book in the Brighton High School Reunion series and is written by M.K. Robert. Each book can be read as stand alone books if wanted and are contemporary romance.
Abigail, who also goes by Abby, now works at the morgue and her best friend, Jess, is a detective in the same department where they live in San Francisco. They’ve been best friends since they were kids and stuck together through high school. Ugh. High school. Where Abby was incessantly bullied. Now their high school reunion was coming up. Could they face everyone? Would they run into Jayden and Kristopher? While Jess has a thing with Jayden, Abby never acted on her crush on Kristopher, Jayden’s best friend. How will she get through it all?
This was a fun short story that went through so many emotions and tough times. It was nice to see how the guys leaned on the ladies for help, because you don’t see that often in romance books. I enjoyed this story and the ride it took me on.
M.K. did it again! This book was so good. And as someone who was bullied in high school, this one kind of hit home for me. Though I wasn't bullied to the extent that poor Abby was.
Best friends, Abby and Jess, are off to Brighton for their 10-year high school reunion. But the last thing Abby expects is for her high school bully to have ended up on the table in the morgue she works at, right before the reunion. When Kris, the guy Abby was head over heels for in high school, and Jayden, Jess's ex, shows up before the reunion, they change everything personally and professionally. Jess is an officer on the investigation and with Abby as the coroner, the women have a choice to make, choose personal happiness, or follow the law.
If you're looking for a spicy, second-chance romance, with some FF action, check this book out. I was NOT disappointed, though M.K.'s books never disappoint. There are a lot of twists and turns, some revenge, hot, single dads, and lots of spice! The way Kris goes to bat for his daughter was the best. This story is a standalone, but part of the Brighton High School Reunion series. It's also a HEA! Make sure to read the trigger warnings before reading!
I really don't want to do a detailed summary for this book because this book is just very entertaining and good. I want people to read it and watch as the story unfolds. Abby is mortician and Kris is divorced and fighting for custody of his daughter. They both liked each other during high school, but never were acted on it as Abby seemed to always to be invisible to Kris. After ten years, they meet each other again at the a night club. The underlying story beneath the two main characters was neatly put together. I loved the conflict between Abby and Kris. It felt like the conflict was drawn out for just long enough to not be repetitive. It's spicy and there's FF and MF.
OMG I absolutely loved this book. The author did a wonderful job writing it to go with the other books in this series. I can’t wait to read more of these books in this series. Such a wonderfully read. I would recommend reading the whole series.
Damn!! Talk about a book with some twists!!! This book was about Abigail and Kristopher, although there was a previous friends-with-benefits situation going on between Abigail and Jess
There where a lot of twists (as if I didn’t make the clear earlier), some serious angst and it was an interesting story!
This is part of the A Brighton High School Reunion series with so many different books by some amazing authors!
Wow another good story about Brighton HS. MK Robert did a great job with this story. Abby leaves the high school from hell and years later she returns for the reunion and meets up with Kris. Sparks fly and the rest is history.
The Brighton High School Reunion series has been awesome. This one is no different and I'm sad that I'm almost done with the series. MK of course did a great job with her characters and it is definitely a must read.
Another great read in this series. An interesting FF and MF mix in the sex scenes. It was unexpected as Abi seemed like such a straight lace that I didn't expect the girl on girl action. Really quite 🔥. It's great that both girls find their HEA even though they break the rules to get there. A desperate dad trying to save his little girl and finding his future in the end too. Lots of lives fixed in this story.
Absolutely loved this book! Another Brighton HS Reunion story. More revenge. More love. I loved the fact that there was FF in it as well. Phenomenal read!
I truly love this authors books, so I was so pumped to hear her have this book coming out. I truly loved it , it was sooooo spicy , I love love the spice in this book. Becky is a b**tch , abby is amazing .this book is so entertaining , and all my emotions came out . This is such a good read :-) a must
