When Leonard's partner is killed and the police have no leads, he and Hap decide to investigate themselves. Needless to say, they get into a lot of trouble.
Although their banter is as funny as usual, and their friends and acquaintances are all crazy characters, this story is also particularly gruesome and violent. The bad guys in this one are particularly bad. Not the most flattering depiction of poor folks from East Texas, but a book that keeps you entertained from beginning to end.
