After listening to the soundtrack in undergrad then watching a live production of it some years back, I finally was able to read the script to this wonderful piece of work, thanks to the eyes and heart of a dear friend.
Some of my favourite aspects about this particular edition of the play, written and set in the late 1890s, were the historical commentary, play notes, and bibliographical info about Frank Wedekind, the author. I (slowly) poured for days over the introductory commentary that was so passionately detailed by Edward Bond, getting to know about Wedekind, and the political and social issues that were taking place in Germany when this was written. The characters were brought to life by their questions, especially the adolescents. The adults seemed to be brought to life especially by their contradictions.
The human condition, in all its doubts, fantasies, and curiosities, has been fantastically ignited.
