The Director of American Intelligence, Mr. Chief, acquires a new technology developed by IMA Corporation. A pink diamond is manipulated at the quantum level and becomes the most powerful computer processor known to man. It is dubbed, Septon. The diamond is taken to Fermilab and a freak accident occurs.
