Bound
July 2013, Manchester, UK. A murder investigation team, led by DCI Mark Gunn is assigned to probe into the brutal mutilations of four women found dead from various locations around the city centre. The evidence gathered from the scene of the crimes, and the extreme nature of the women's deaths indicate that the team are looking for a dangerous, deranged maniac. As the case unfolds, and the team finds itself buried deep within the seedy, sleazy underworld of the city, characteristics between the murders increase proportionally with the body count. The only thing that the team cannot find is motive.

3.5 stars. This was a pretty decent crime thriller. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Lennon’s other works, but it still held up. Gunn was a good lead and I did not at all expect that twist at the very end. But he was very versatile and dynamic, never having a boring instance. The female cops weren’t badly written, but they didn’t necessarily strike me as being anything necessarily unique or ambitious. They were written to be a means to an end, if you will. My biggest critique was how there was a sizable portion of the book dedicated to introducing everyone. Each person had their own section, in addition to a few victims, but it dragged on for almost the first quarter of the story. I feel like there could have been a more clever way to work everything into a shorter area, allowing the actual investigation and everything going on with Gunn have more time. This isn’t my preferred subgenre of thrillers, but I still enjoyed it. It had more to like than not. Especially the really gory parts with the killer and their (No spoilers.) prey. :)

Fan-freaking-tastic! I devoured this book and it's combination of serial killer chiller crimes of the most heinous horrific nature combined with a taut plot and brilliant characters has this in my long list of top reads for 2016.
Matt Hickman and Andrew Lennon came together to write this book and...

Seriously lads, I'm a fan of both of you but keep writing this style of novel together. You are on a winning streak here. Kudos to you both!
The book is graphically gory with its torture and kill scenes, this works when you have horror writing experience in the mix. Like Graham Masterton who wrote successful horror then a brilliant crime series his horror touches gave the book that awesome darker edge many don't have. This had it too.
It's heart pounding stuff from page one and doesn't let up, moments made me wince feeling the victim's pain and fear. I loved every minute of it. A brilliant taut plot that delivers one hell of a punch, excellent characters, moments to keep you guessing and a stunning finale makes for excellent reading and it's very well written.
Whether you like crime, thrillers, serial killer chillers or horror, it's all here! A dynamic genre blend that just gets its hooks in (in more ways than one) and doesn't let go.
Highly recommended by me, can't fault it, one of my best reads of 2016 and I'm desperate for more collaboration between these two authors that just get better and better. This is brilliant fiction.

Bound was a nasty little story about a serial killer with an axe to grind, (so to speak), and a police detective who was having none of it.
The killer in this short novel is sadistic and nothing short of an animal. Actually, DCI Gunn , the detective, is a bit of an animal as well. Gunn's character was way over the top for me, and ended up in the cliche category of "loose cannon".
The other characters here were pretty well drawn-I liked all three of the female detectives, (though there being three of them, it reminded me of Charlie's Angels, {and one of these detectives was named Charlie}). My problems here stemmed from their being placed in situations that I just did not find believable. For instance, only one of them returning to a crime scene to look around again for anything they missed. In America, we send entire teams to the crime scene. Nothing like that was mentioned here. This book is set in the U.K., and maybe my outlook on this stems from my U.S. view, but I don't think so. Keeping in my mind that U.K. officers do NOT carry guns, it just doesn't seem right to me to send one officer back alone.
Overall, I think this story had potential, but the execution just didn't live up to it. For that reason, I did give it 3 stars, but I doubt that I will continue on with the sequel.

Oh I knew I was Bound to like this one..
Matt Hickman and Andrew Lennon are back at it again, this time collaborating on a single project. They have worked together on their own series of shorts called Hexad, which was AWESOME, plus have been in a few different anthologies together, not to mention their solo works which I have read and loved, LOVED them all!!
Two of my new favorite authors, together again. Awwww..
To say I am a fan of both is an understatement and I was super excited to see what kind of gritty detective story ala CSI/ NYPD Blueish late - laaaate - night cable approach they would bring about in Bound.
I was not disappointed!
Bravo to the writers for creating such a nail bitter of a thriller with just the right amount of copious gratuity thrown in, in a tasteful way, to move the story along.
Meaning none of it was played for shocks and shocks alone.
But yet...it was rather shocking. And I only hope they continue with another collaboration down the road.
Their styles mesh so well together and as hard as I tried, I could not determine which penned which!!
Extra clever kudos goes out to the use of first person perspective during certain pivotal scenes.
It's mostly set in the seedy side of Manchester. A new serial killer is on the rise, making a mark and doing it with a no holds barred, go for the guts -aaand genetalia-approach.
Is vendetta the motive or just plain thrill kills for the sheer thrill of it all? They have little to go on in the way of clues.
The hot headed and unconventional DCI (deputy chief inspector) Mark Gunn was chosen to head up a team of four to pilfer through what little evidence, motive, and insight they can possible decipher. His main incentive for joining the cophood was as an 'acceptable 'outlet for his tough temper fueled ways, what better way to vent his frustrations than under the protection of a badge, plus nabbing bad guys is a plus too, of course.
He seems to have a big heart just hides it under his rough and callous exterior.
He chooses his team wisely :
~ Charlie, the feisty small town Irish gal computer lover turned hacker extraordinaire who has ways of getting into hard to reach and uber encrypted places.
~Jessica, the American who was driven to become a cop after her friend was gunned down in a hate crime, she's the rookie with a weak stomach but full of sheer determination to prove herself worthy.
~Melissa, also American, with her keen puzzle solving expertise that she honed as an escape from her neglected childhood, she's got a eagle eye for details, that one.
Before even combing for clues on their current crime scene investigation....another murder happens, and another. This relentless and sadistic killer is out for either fame, vengeance, or mind games it seems and has perfected the gruesome arts and crafts of those show stopping exhibits!
Ya know, that damn CCTV captures us running yellow lights, picking our noses, jacking wedgies outta our asses, BUT they never, ever, seem angled well enough to capture the true deviancy that happens around the dark and dank corners. Frustrating for our team to say the least but they are all super determined and highly motivated...especially when said killer seems to start targeting them.
Taunt and tight fast paced psychological thriller which delves briefly into each of the victims personal doings at the time just before abduction. Our team always seems to be a step behind, over, and to the far left....secrets are withheld which may impede the investigation but when the chips are down, drastic measures must be taken especially when it's not even known if it's poker or blackjack being played .
Just when you think it is headed in the right direction, it does a 180 and then flips over on itself. Macguffins and red herrings galore only add to the suspense and intrigue.
I had a strong inkling that there would be a HUGE twist in this and so about 3/4 of the way through, I did go and reread some of the victim lead in parts in the beginning, scouring for clues that my inept mind may have missed, just to try to give myself an advantage and eventual 'pat on the back', but NOPE, I did NOT have a clue where this was headed, nor even a guess.
I have never been very apt at figuring out theses things anyway but always try to give myself the benefit of the doubt.
I never learn...like ever. I just need to play to my weaknessess and stop trying so hard...it's foolish..and a real confidence breaker...
So yea, pretty much a mind blowing ending that I DO feel confident enough in saying that I can't possible be the only one that did NOT see that coming...
Much adoring accolades to the writers for choosing a team of highly skilled women for this investigation.
Quite often there is only the ONE token female included and she usually doubles as the secretary....
Having said that....I would be the one regulated solely to coffee runs and dry cleaning pickups IF I was to ever gain a job in the department and even then, maps and detailed step by steps would have to be delegated to me, in written form.
Haven't received any call backs as of yet though...fingers crossed.
What a treat for the readers...two excellent up and coming writers and their union of chaos is on par and somewhat reminiscent of the Shaw and Bray couplings.
Is it wrong that I have a vivid and charming mental picture of the pair of them skipping down the British beachside, hand in hand, singing 'Wind Beneath My Wings' or.... 'Jimmy Cracked Corn'???
It's not, is it...
I feel a bromance in the air.
The only thing I would change if I could, is the length. I think they had a solid enough and well crafted story with deep, rich, and well written characters, lots of locations changes, and tons of fast paced action.
It easily could have been double the length and not had a lagging moment in it.
Maybe for their next collaboration they'll go all out FULL novel on us.
More please, I will definitely indulge in MORE from this dynamic duo!!

A very exciting, gruesome, thriller/serial killer/crime fiction book. It's one of my favorite reads this year. If you like this type of book you will absolutely love it. Such a good book! I am definitely checking out more from this Andrew Lennon author, I really liked his writing.

Bound to disturb
As a die hard fan of both the corroborating Authors, I, understandably , was very excited to get my hands on Bound. And I was not disappointed! Every element of this book showcases the talent and skill of the Authors. From the individual character chapters, that allows the reader to get to know them, and care about them ; to the brutal murder scenes, that even had this crazier fan feeling a little pal.
Hopefully this is not the last collaboration between the Authors. I, for one, could very easily see this as a series.

Let me start by saying that I think Andrew Lennon has wonderful talent as a writer and author. His short story collections A Taste of Fear and Twisted Shorts where some of the best I have read this year and they showed great flair, vitality and excitement in a very overcrowded market/horror genre. It is therefore unfortunate that I found Bound not to my liking and indeed not to his usual high standards. I appreciate that many readers and bloggers differ in what they find good and exciting but Bound for me lacked so much of what I found so appealing in his short story collections.
Frankly the story and the lead participant, DCI Mark Gunn, is too unbelievable to have any real credibility and worth. Gunn not only flaunts all the rules of good detective work and modern policing but in addition he is a psychotic bully somewhere between Hannibal Lector and DCI Gene Hunt ( brilliantly played in the BBC drama Life on Mars by Philip Glenister) bigoted, chauvinistic and aggressive....."Sir, I need you to tell me what you know, now." Gunn spat "Get that f***ing thing out of my face, now, before I break your arm."....and this to a colleague in Gunn's team. Gunn is pursuing a killer around the streets of Manchester and the whole thing becomes very personal when two police officers are captured and tortured the events being relayed to Gunn in an attempt to flush him out and force him into a meeting, where the true intentions of the killer will be made known.
Chris Daniels, a partner in a real estate company, is surveying old and decrepit properties hoping to buy cheap and renovate into luxury apartments. On one particular location a body is discovered and immediately without any real evidence Gunn is convinced he has his killer. He then proceeds to interrogate and torture an innocent man to presumably beat a confession out of him even going as far as closing down the CCTV in the interview room. There is I believe, a reason why the author portrays Gunn in such a negative and aggressive way, it creates the basis for a good conclusion but Gunn's attitude and approach to his responsible job is simply too unbelievable to hold any real credence or belief. As a relatively short story this did not work, it was erratic and seemed to lack any real sense or direction. The action was certainly fast and furious but police officers running around blindly and assaulting possible suspects without reason or evidence is not what good storytelling should be about!
I end this review where I started, Andrew Lennon is a great author but not on this particular occasion and in this particular story.

As you settle in and read Bound you should know that this isn’t your typical horror novel. At times it feels like it, but it’s a thriller with teeth that could bite you if you’re not careful. This is one of those novels that you begin reading and just can’t stop. It’s like crack in book form. What I loved about this was the attention to detail and character development. You have two sides to cheer for. The Investigators looking for a killer or a killer who is sadistic and unlike any you have seen in a thriller. Those moments when he graces the pages have you riveted due to the brutality. It’s a story we’ve read before. Andrew and Matt know this, but what they’ve done is given us something unexpected. It’s the little surprises that make this so damn good.
In a genre like this there isn’t a lot of wiggle room. The key is to give the readers something they haven’t seen before and Bound certainly does that. Some of the characters follow the typical pattern of what you see in a thriller, but Lennon and Hickman also know that in order to keep readers glued to the pages you have to give them something new. The big question is who is the killer? Usually in these types of books you can tell who it is within the first few pages, but here? You have no clue. The how and why doesn’t factor in until the end and that is where these guys really shine. The ending isn’t something you see coming. In a typical thriller everything is sewn up nicely and everyone lives to fight another day. Not the case here.
Bound is a novel that takes everything you think you know about thrillers and promptly changes the rules. This is exactly the kind of thriller you would read if you weren’t so accustomed to paint by numbers fiction. For horror fans this is a must read not because of the genre but because of the writers. These are writers who are taking risks and trying something different and it works. From start to finish Bound is a fascinating read that pulls you in and keeps you guessing. You get two view points and they work because you get two sides of the story. You get the investigators, and then you get the killer’s. It’s a style that James Patterson has used quite often, but Patterson has never written something this brutal. Bound is truly one of those novels that will no doubt end up in those “End of the Year Best of Lists”

Hickman and Lennon together have crafted a taut, tense psychological thriller, interweaving multiple characters and styles. However the book works well as a whole, and there were moments that left me genuinely creeped out, and twists that surprised. Recommend to readers who like their thrillers to have a jagged edge of gore. The only part that irked me a tad was when several characters were introduced one after another, each in their own chapter, though this part had a modern Agatha Christie feel.

Fast-paced kill ride from a dynamic writing team. Not for the squeamish. If this book is going to upset you, dear reader, consider yourself warned ... back away slowly. If you enjoy brutality and graphic images, gore and blood ... hurry on down and get your copy! You're (more than) BOUND to love it. Hope to see more collaborations from Lennon and Hickman in the future.

Spell-Bound
Great fast paced story with good character development. Well written with a steady pace. I enjoyed the backstories and how they were incorporated into the plot. Highly recommend.

Unpredictable, Exciting, Horrific, Insane Ending!
We meet DCI Mark Gunn, and learn a little about why is the way he is. He has a team of specialists he has hand chosen to help him solve crimes of the worst kind. Gunn’s team consist of:
Jessica Sinnamond who joined the police she experienced a hate crime as a teen.
Melissa Lason, considered a lifelong loner, neglected as a child, genius, avid puzzler lover and solver.
Charlie Corkish, an I.T. master, with possible something to prove.
And don’t you dare forget Gunn’s boss Chief Constable Jack Rollins!
This time they are faced with the murder of at least 5 women, brutalized and tortured in unimaginable ways. (shout out to my Facebook friends as characters!) Someone is playing games and the ones who pay, besides the countless innocent victims, could be Gunn and/or his whole team…
The style the authors used for this tale worked out amazingly well. The characters were each complex and interesting. The plot itself is quite unique! This was fast paced, highly entertaining, creepy, unforgettable!
Now, without spoilers, I am throwing you a warning and some random words to peak your interests. Beware of the sounds of camera shutter flickers, abandoned warehouses/flats, etc. In this story you will find surgical torture, power tools, glass shards, handcuffs, suspense, thrills, twists, excitement, edge-of-your –seat moments, knives, vengeance, executions, brotherhood ties, psychopathy, shocks, gore, unfortunate images that may never leave your brain, furniture abuse, and mutilation. There is SO much more but you get the idea. This is for you if you love horror, thrills, and chills. Also, be prepared for an epically surprising end!! Who wants ‘the truth’??
I most highly recommend to all fans of modern horror!

BOUND, a horror suspense thriller by Andrew Lennon and Matt Hickman, ultimately exceeded my expectations in intensity. I expected the story to be more suspenseful than anything else based on the synopsis, but this one builds upon itself page after page from suspense mystery to suspense thriller to horror thriller. It shifts perspective without rehashing events, giving in-depth characterization without losing tension. The tension builds steadily as the story becomes progressively more disturbing.
But the most disturbing thing is the twisted ending. The ending is neither predictable nor overtly given. The ending is revealed. Slowly. Meticulously. Agonizingly. It is brilliantly done and leaves a small part of one’s brain a bit damaged for a while. So, allow some time to collect yourself once you finish this one. And do attempt to refrain from cussing the authors on social media. I believe there are rules against the use of such language.
That being said, having completed the book a half hour ago, I still must confess that I hate both authors a little bit right now. And I told them so. On social media.
I do love a story with an impactful ending.

It's like a clash of the titans when Andrew and Matt get together to work on a book and this masterpiece will knock you into next week like a punishing blow from Thors hammer. From start to finish this book will keep you in it's firm grip and doesn't let go until the bitter end. An awesome plot,plenty of gore and brilliantly written. I can't wait to get a signed copy.

Wow!! I Could Read this again!
This book is outstanding, but it's not for the faint of heart. Yes, it's very detailed about what happens to the victims, but it's that detail that grabs you, and you feel what they feel!! Chilling to the bone!!

Gripping story filled with brutal nastiness and some wonderful little twists. This had me hooked and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great work you guys!!!

I received this audio book from the author in exchange for a honest review.
Loved this book! It had a very brutal and gruesome start and didn't let up until the end.it also has a detective/police angle that I hadn't expected ... thought it would just be straight gore, but this element really added to the story.
A quick read that I couldn't put down. Looking forward to reading more from this author!

I was really impressive, reading this book. I found it something original thing with a cool suspense, good characters. "Psychopath Killer" is a popular things around books of genre like this, but still, it was really something new to me. It an awesome mix of two awesome authors - their common work created this amazing story. Also, I loved its final!

Young women are brutally tortured before being sadistically murdered. Enter the team of specialists Jessica Sinnamond, Melissa Lason and Charlie Corkish all out to prove themselves and headed by the hot headed DCI Mark Gunn under the command of Jack Rollins. They are in for the most horrifying case of their lives with no rhyme,reason or clues as to why these victims are being viciously murdered. This psychological thriller is a fast paced, roller coaster ride of terror, graphic violence, gore and lots of blood with a great twist ending and is definitely not for the faint of heart or people with weak stomachs.
The brilliant pairing up of Andrew Lennon and Matt Hickman hopefully will continue with many more projects. Well done guys.

When I heard this was being released, I knew I had to get my hands on it. A collaboration by Andrew Lennon and Matt Hickman was just what I needed in my life and I have to say I wasn't disappointed.
The story follows DCI Mark Gunn who happens to be a police officer in Manchester. He's known for his shady tactics but he always get results so nobody is bothered. Not until now. With a string of violent, horrific murders all orchestrated on women, Gunn and colleagues are on a race against time to figure out what is going on and why. It doesn't take long before his team is dropping and a note left with someone leads him to the killer.
This is a brutal thriller that had me on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen and I didn't see the twist coming at all. Great read!

While this is not the first book I have read by either of these authors, I have to admit it was one of my favorites. I always enjoy stories when you can't help but like the antagonist, despite how cruel. This was such a fun and easy read. Easy as in one minute it was light outside, the next minute it was WAY past my bedtime. I had to work in the morning! Not a difficult choice however due to unlimited availability of coffee

A good solid crime thriller with a fair amount of gore thrown in.
"Old school" cops desperate for a result is the main focus of this, does it really matter who the killer is? I felt this was more around the main character and their obvious old fashioned way of working (that doesn't always work) and their struggle to own up to their mistakes.
A nice approach to a common trope and it was very engaging.

Gore, brutal, gruesome horror story to read. This one is not certainly for everyone to read. There's some very nasty part from it that will turn your head and mind in offside balance. Better you check the book review before read it...
In Manchester, UK the date was july 13 there's couole of incidents about murder as four women found dead brutally invery in human way. A murder investigation team, led by thr leader called DCI Mark Gunn is assigned to found out the real killer behind all this. But the problem is these murdering incidents happened in various places of the side and there's no clue left behind to track down. It was really impossible to believe but that exactly happened when those brutal killing incidents occur. The investigation team kept there nose in that matter and what they did find was really gruesome to read. While reading it you will find it interesting, fast paced and of course crime horror. There's no clue and well I can't say if you got the real killer's identity even when you are in the end of this book. Worth my time, enjoyed it in a single sitting and finished it. Thanks to the duo of Matt and Andrew. Going to dig out more...
