A brief, helpful devotional that gathers selections from the early church fathers on various topics -- the kingdom, wealth, love, martyrdom, the way of the cross. The author consciously doesn't give citations because he wants it to be more devotional. The most striking part, though, is how such a collection reveals how far we moderns are from speaking New Testament. That's what the fathers did; they spoke NT categories, without the dismissals and twists of individualism, nationalism, and power. In short, they actually took Jesus at His word. Striking and refreshing.
I'm generally a fan of David Bercot's work but this is just a topical selection of quotes from the early church fathers. It doesn't tell you which selection the quote is pulled form. As such it's value as a book is very limited. In fairness to the author he does say clearly that he didn't put that information in the book so expectations are clear up from... I just don't see teh value if you can't link back to teh original source.
