The early 1980s were the hay day of the world's first Gay Mecca. And Richard is the world's first male to female transsexual police officer. Sworn to uphold the law in the wild wild west that was the notorious Castro District. 56 Sanchez takes the reader into the unseen and secrete world of San Francisco's gay district, with its anonymous sex, drugs and all to frequent violence. Unlike today, transsexuality was an unknown condition to most people and especially to the straight world of San Francisco Police department, so it was when Richard, now Rachel was sworn in as the world's first transsexual police officer, that she naively walks into a life balanced on the edge of hating cops, and dangerous criminals.
