I wasn't in a good place when I read this book, so perhaps I didn't giggle through it as much as I perhaps would ordinarily have done, but it did lift my spirits.
This is a very entertaining read. A humorous insight into the 'normal' life of Maureen Lipman primarily in the 70s - 90s. There are tangential stories diverting to early life to provide background and explanation for the quirks about to be revealed. By 'normal' life, I mean that this is not an exploration of the professional exploits or celebrity social life or status, but a down to earth life dealing with battles that most of us face at some stage - the choice of pet, re-designing the kitchen, test-driving cars. Even if some of it are not part of our normal routine (how many of us have test-driven a car for TV?).
Maureen's writing style is a witty, almost sarcastic tone that I relate well to, and did have my chuckling out loud in places (despite my opening statement comment).
An entertaining read and insight into Maureen's every day life made even more enjoyable as I could hear her voice as I read. I personally found the book quite witty and would recommend it.
Good funny book by the author. Living with her must be hilarious.
Back Cover Blurb: In this outrageously funny peep between her loo nets, Maureen Lipman describes how life is for her. Best known as a brilliantly inventive comedy actress, she displays in this, her first book, the same originality and razor-sharp wit that she brings to her unforgettable characterizations, taking us on an hilarious whirlwind tour of her adventures (and misadventures) on and off stage.
Just added this book after recalling a memory that I had it read many years ago. I also remember the stories and how they had me snorting with laughter in public places e.g. on the bus, in a cafe, very embarrassing. Anyway, just loved Maureen Lipman's style and sense of humour. A delight to read.
