Peter's story is both poignant and funny; it is the story of love, life and family. Throughout the book Peter reminisces about his life, his experiences and his love for his family. I particularly enjoyed the prologue to the book, which is a letter from Peter to his late mother. It was so heart-felt and genuine that I couldn't help but read on. While the book touches on some sad and sensitive subjects, Peter is not without humor! He has an upbeat way of looking at life and his experiences and shares it with the reader, sometimes in the form of sarcasm and sometimes in the form of an anecdote. My favorite? One involving a plane, a large derriere and an unpleasant odor! The Owl in the Tree was a quick read, but both meaningful and enjoyable at the same time!

The simply told (and therefore, for me, more touching) story of this loving and genuine family was a total pleasure. It made me glow, inside, and shed tears for the people involved while feeling in awe of them. The honesty and fearlessness with which they were able to relate to each other was beautiful and deeply felt. It is a very happy story of lives connected and genuine.
