This is a useful guide to the many allusions, often cryptic, in Thomas Pynchon’s “The Crying of Lot 49”.

When there’s a need for a companion book to a companion book. This is the one that needs to be talked about.

I understand that a lot of scholarly research has been done and put together in this piece, however the problem I see is the presentation quality that’s offered to the reader—last time I checked the purpose of a companion piece should be able to assist the reader in reading a “tricky” piece of work, and this one here clearly falls short. In short, it’s as useful as an article sitting on a domestic showcase shelf.
