Sixty-six Heart Tugging Devotions

Author Lori Hatcher has read through the Bible over twenty times and uses that experience combined with her personal experiences to write moving devotions from each book of the Bible. She captures the essence of each book in the Bible with a single word. This selected word is the foundation for each devotion and concludes each reading in bold type.

For example, most of us do not connect happiness with the book of Job who suffered incredible loss. Hatcher writes, “If you or someone you love is grieving today, take comfort from the life of Job. Or perhaps you’re mourning something else—a lost job, a relationship, or a dream. Take heart from the psalmist’s promise, “Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). One day soon, your spirit will lift, your eyes will smile, and your heart will again know HAPPINESS.” (Page 70)

A WORD FOR YOUR DAY, 66 DEVOTIONS TO REFRESH YOUR MIND will give a different perspective on the Bible and bless you in unexpected ways. I highly recommend it.

I rather enjoyed this beautifully crafted walk through the Bible. Ms. Hatcher picks a word that she believes best sums up the book of the Bible that is that day's devotional. Then she builds the devotion around that word.
This was a very inspiring and thought provoking walk through the Bible. I highly recommend it.

Having a word for the year has become very popular. What about a word for each book of the Bible? That is exactly what Lori Hatcher has given us with A Word for Your Day - 66 Devotions to Refresh Your Mind. I will admit that some of the words were a surprise to me but each verse and word has spoken to my heart. An example is thanksgiving for the book of Leviticus. Not the first word I associate with this Old Testament book but when verse 22: 29 is given and an in-depth explanation, I will now always think of that word when thinking of Leviticus.

This devotion consists of 66 short chapters focusing on the word chosen for the book of the Bible. Each is heart inspiring and thought invoking. This is a perfect devotional to begin the New Year or actually any time in your life. I highly recommend this book.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, my personal opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I have many devotionals, but this one is amazing. I love that I don't have to read it in order. I can search for what I need on any particular day with no need to follow the book order. Please get it if you wonder what it has to offer. It is truly worth the read for your spiritual journey. Thank you Netgalley, Daily Bread, and Lori Hatcer for this ARC!

Thank you first of all for this ARC!
Amazing book and approach. I always enjoy reading devotionals, but this one has a special nice and different touch.
All 66 books of the Bible has that one specific word. You can read this book in order or simply look for the word you connect with for the day and jump to those 3 to 4 pages of reading. Deep connection. Worth the read. Enjoy.

I absolutely love the thought and prayer that has gone into this book of devotions. Lori Hatcher gives us 66 beautifully written devotions, each based on a separate book of the bible. This is the first time I have seen a book of devotions that spans every book of the bible, and I am impressed. The individual devotions are beautifully written and pack a heavy spiritual punch. This is definitely a book I will gift to friends.

I love Lori Hatcher’s new devotional, A Word For Your Day! I love the concept, I love the chosen words, I love the length of each day’s message and I love the clarity of God’s word seeping through Ms. Hatcher’s pen. I can’t wait for the February 2024 release, as I will be adding it to my list of gift worthy books for the new year.

Choosing a word – just one – from each book of the Bible may seem like an inadequate approach. However, Lori Hatcher’s often unusual selections bring laser focus to a specific problem, example, and faith principle God has embedded in that book of His Word.
How many associate the word “thanksgiving” with Leviticus? “know” with Ezekiel? “happiness” with Job?
Whether unpacking a familiar Bible story like those in Esther and Ruth, David’s grief at the death of his first son with Bathsheba, a New Testament account of resurrection witnesses, God’s grace, or the apostle Paul’s “infirmity,” each devotion brings God’s purpose and perspective into situations Christians face today.
I find myself reflecting on each day’s reading, specific word highlighted, and how the biblical account and contemporary anecdotes relate to my life. Changing circumstances, daily routines or habits, welcome or unwelcome surprises – my reactions to these, in the moment and in the long term, reflect my relationship with God. This volume is not only an excellent addition to the Refresh devotional series; it’s a wonderful tool for deeper examination of Bible narratives, our own lives, and our faith walk. This book’s daily readings remind me that GOD is in the details.

In Truth and Love

A Word for Your Day, beautifully crafted in God’s truth and love, has something for each of us that will enlighten a walk by faith. Once again, best-selling author, Lori Hatcher remains faithful to her thought-provoking, steeped in Scripture, devotional style.

The book touched me, as a reader, on both an emotional and logical level. I absolutely loved where the author included first-hand experiences and relatable applications to illustrate a point. These, and the chronological organization, help the reader to better understand each book of the Bible, allowing the reading to be especially engaging. And while every section of the text struck an invaluable chord for me, furthering my faith: “Favor” (from Esther) and “Think” (from Philippians) were among the most powerful messages provided.

The world needs more compassionate, faithful authors like Lori Hatcher, to fire us up to the task of courageously following the unique mission that God has gifted each of us. Don’t miss her new gem!

It’s obvious that Lori Hatcher’s A Word for Your Day—66 Devotions to Refresh Your Mind was birthed because its author read the Bible with intentionality. Taking just one word from each of the Old and New Testament books, she weaves a theme, from Genesis to Revelation. Each 5-minute reading is power-packed, making it a great tool to read individually or as part of a group, and each is concise, inviting readers to deeper study as well as to a richer, more intimate prayer time. Beginning our day with one devotion from A Word for Your Day enables us to carry that specific word in our hearts, pondering truth based on ultimate Truth--God’s Word. Like a little sword in our hands, we’re equipped to fight the battles this life brings and come forth victorious!

The only problem I had with this book was not wanting to put it down. Meant to be read one-a-day, I can't think of a single day that I could stop at one. I have a "A Word for Your Day" problem that's worse than any Lay's potato chip addiction could ever be. Each day's devotion is filled with encouragement as the author focuses the writing on one word from each book of the Bible. In their observations, which seemed Spirit-led, she unpacks and helps readers to uncover encouraging thoughts about God and His people that I never saw before. A delightful, refreshing, easy-to-read devotional that will help you become addicted to uncovering the hidden treasures in God's Word.

POWERFUL! One word -- really? And how perfect, though, to be able to read a book in HIS Word and extract from that one word that you can carry with you each day, to lead, guide, strengthen, inspire. What an awesome concept! Lori Hatcher continues to pour out His Spirit in her books. I love A Word for Your Day. It is one that drives you to your knees and lifts your hands up over your head to praise the God Who is always there and comes to us with everything we need. Love your work, Lori! This book is a must-read.

A QUICK DOSE OF FRESH INSPIRATION FOR THE OVERLY BUSY PERSON

I follow this author because her insights are genuinely fresh—and always soaked with grace. I think this is her best book yet. She packs so much truth and love into so little, allowing even busy me to receive fresh inspiration every day. Because she writes with a loving hand, her books make a great gift option for anyone seeking faith, new to faith, or a seasoned believer. I saved time by buying four gift copies to keep on hand for upcoming gifts.

What a delight author Lori Hatcher created in "A Word for Your Day." She surprised me with her often-unconventional words - one for each book of the Bible. From Genesis' "beginning" and Exodus' "I" to Revelation's "new," I was struck by her stories and Biblical truths. (I've still got chill bumps from her last chapter!) I recommend this book to people ready for a different approach to devotionals.

I really enjoyed this book and its design of a word a day to reflect and ponder. Lori Hatcher covers a total of 66 words, one from each book of the Bible, beginning in Genesis and ending in Revelation in these short 5-minute devotionals. The reflections are simple but powerful using a single word and revealing teachings that are often overlook. This is a wonderful devotional to help you explore the Bible and its meanings down to a single word.

Love this idea, and I usually love reading these bite-sized little daily type devotionals, but for some reason, most of these stories just didn't capture and hold my attention. 66 words, one from each book in the Bible. Do you read one a day, 1 a week, or what? I really do enjoy the concept and liked some of the stories, but overall, this just wasn't for me.

Biblically beautiful and a refreshing take on one word devotionals. I've spent decades reading through my Bible and am always thrilled to find a fresh and original approach. I love how the author has organized these one-word reflections by books of the Bible. It is exquisitely written and biblically sound. I will reread this, for sure.

This is an absolutely wonderful daily reflection book by Lori Hatcher. In a world where our actions speak louder than words, I love the notion of how just one word can hold so much power. By using 66 words, for each of the book of the bible, The reflections are simple but meaning and powerful. This is a great book for a devote bible reader or for a friend that is searching for meaning and growth on their faith journey.

A Word for Your Day starts off nicely, rather like lots of devotionals. But she really grabbed my attention when we got to Leviticus of all things. I had read that verse many times before, but this time I saw it differently. It is obvious that the author has put more thought into this than the typical "God will fix everything" kind of devotional. Also, she is writing about what the Bible actually says instead of writing what she wants to and then slapping a verse on it. Having spent a lifetime listening to and reading solid teaching, I am not easily impressed, but this devotional did it. It is absolutely worth adding to any devotional library.
