The Reaper #1

Atkinson's Administration

Rate this book
The reaper has walked among us ever since time began. Our meaning of time is different; three score years and ten give or take the over or under run of sand in the reapers time piece. That is what the ancient philosophers would have us believe. But now the bells are chiming us into the 21st century and there is a problem. The real reaper system has had a spanner thrown into its works; the repercussions of this could and will end the world as we know it. Can mortals battle with ancient Gods or is this the apocalypse that revelations predicted. Have you ever wondered what that feeling is when you are falling in your sleep and you wake just before you hit the ground? Well, that is me twanging the cord that one day I will cut in my realm and you will die in yours. Atkinson

I have been a story teller all my life but I had a dark secret. A secret that stopped me showing anyone my work. I could neither read or write properly. I was classed as an idiot at school in the days before the word dyslexia was known. I would write story after story sometimes filling a large foolscap jotter (150 pages +)and when finished I would destroy it so no body would see it and laugh at me like they did at school. The very fact that I could not read never limited my stories because My head was full of them and still is to this day. The reason I began to have my work published was down to my wife Beverly Bernett. She used to be a radiology transcriptionist and could type really well. She saw on the computer one of my stories and asked me what it was. Rather embarrassed I said it was a story, she then read it put all the comma's full stops and everything else a story needs to make it readable without changing the words. She then sent it to lulu.com and published it. She then gave me a mantra 'There is no wrong just write'. and here I am writing my fourth novella with one poetry book published as well and two poetry books being edited by her as we speak (11/01/14) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5Yu7...

This is possibly the most amazing and captivating book that I have ever read! The pace of the novel keeps you wanting to turn the pages, it plays on your mind even when you have put the book down you want to find out what is going to happen next. It features brilliant interesting and well described characters. John Paul Bernett is one of the most talented authors, the way he writes books makes your imagination get transported into the world he has created, you fight alongside the characters and will them on in their battle. This book cost me many sleepless nights as I found it hard to put down.

One of the main characters Atkinson is the type of character you instantly dislike which helps you will on all the other characters such as Tamara, Sarah, John Smith and the D.I , the description that he uses creates a very vivid image in your head of how the world he created should be seen. It is like you are in the background while watching all of this going on. I would definately recommend this book to everybody, it is a stunning book that is just so well written. I thoughly enjoyed this book, it kept up the same pace thoughout the novel which means that there isn't a dull moment. This book is definately worthy of a 5 star rating...if i could i would rate it infinity stars!. I loved it!.

This is the first book by John Paul Bernett that I have read and it most certainly won't be the last. The writing style is different from any book I have read before. The characters are believable and you soon start willing on your favorites. I liked the fact that all the female characters are strong and powerful and equality is the norm in this book.

Thee story is set at the turn of this century and as the series title suggests it's about the Grim Reaper. However it's not the overdone hooded cloak, sickle and pointing bony finger This guy Atkinson is much more scary than that, but you will have to read it because I am not doing spoilers.

The action is relentless it starts within the first pages and then keeps your heart racing the rest of the way. I don't think anyone has told Mr Bernett that you only have one built up heart stopping ending this guy gives you two. That is another way that this author is different,he seems to have his own set of rules. There is something for everyone in this book, police investigation, suspense even romance and it's all going on at the same time at different places.Man you are all over the place and it is great. You are laughing one minute and crying the next and then its followed by an 'OMG what is that' kind of a moment. I could not stop turning the pages I just wanted to know what happens next.

I didn't notice any mistakes but I'm a reader not a reviewer as such so I might be wrong on that one. One thing I did notice above all is it is very easy to read, there is no filler no wondering off on a tangent once you are on this ride there is no getting off.

The first thing I did when I finished this book was go straight to Amazon and get the next installment. This has been a great reading experience for me and a definite five star rating. At the end of the book it simply says 'Be Happy' well Mr Bernett I am indeed.

Review -- Atkinsons’ Administration by John Paul Bernett -- 5/5 stars

I’m not very familiar with the horror genre, but I must say this book did capture my attention.

The main idea used felt very unique; that of a reaper and scribe existing for generations, determining who will soon pass into the next realm. But what happens when this system can be abused?

I found my interest in the beginning of the story rather wondrous. John Smith is an ordinary bloke, living alone in his apartment, but something isn’t quite right about him.

The remainder of the book revolved around a battle between good and evil, which are my favourite stories. It was about modern civilisation’s response to dark and at first incomprehensible forces. Think police investigation, fast-moving plot, and thriller-style scenes.

I must say I was very impressed with the book. The end of the book is in no way predictable either. If these types of books are your thing then don’t hesitate to buy the Reaper series immediately!

This is the first book I have read by the author and I wasn't disappointed...there are graphic details of violence and Gore which will most likely disturb some people but which I found quite mesmerising, it allowed you to really get into the head of someone so soulless and destructive. the story was fast paced and kept you in suspense, and I really liked all the characters. a refreshingly dark and paranormal thriller that really stood out, well done John Paul!

Everything a book should be - provocative, passionate, thrilling, sexy, scary, funny, moving, fast-paced and profound. For a first-time author, this man knows his stuff. And the core of the story is unique and fresh...all action and no filler...leaves you awake at night thinking...and staring at the door of your bedroom...

I was curious about the high rate score so I bought the book. Sadly it did not left a strong impression. It was entertaining but the story line and characters somewhat faded. I am pretty sure that soon it will made in a blockbuster that people can enjoy on weekends.

I wasn't sure how I should rate this book, because of the strangeness (and violence, Lot's of violence) made it difficult to follow the plot on occasion. Luckily, things always seemed to snap back into place, but you have to stick with it. The writer has an excellent writing style and attention to detail. His characters are well developed, and I'm sure you'll join me in loving to hate many of the characteristics of the main characters.

Without trying to give away the central plot, the story is centered around the revolving cycle of 3 entities. As the story unfolds and develops, you find that the entity (that's all the hint I'm giving, sorry) Atkinson is about to take over the reigns for his cycle, or Administration. The book is well written, confusing in some places - I think that's due to the complexity of the story, and pretty violent. The violence is why I think I'm tempted to drop the rating by a star, but I also realize that Atkinson's mercilessness is a large part of what makes the story what it is. This is a book that will make you think and keep you on your toes- it was a great ride and I look forward- and not (grin) to the next book.
