1. Blunt 2. Crude 3. Tedious 4. Boring 5. I couldn't find any intimacy or emotional connection 6. I totally disliked the prologue 7. I disliked the characters and the story as well 8. The sex scenes…caveman vibes all the way, baby. Uh, yeah, ramming a cock into a woman's pussy is not all that exciting if you can't enjoy any foreplay. In all honesty, they were badly written and the opposite of hot and erotic. Sadly, it was a huge turn-off. Bad, as in really bad. *rolls eyes* Well, what does not suit me may suit you though. 9. The plot? Uh…no comment. 10. Basically, I have a problem with this topic. It's quite old and overused.
"I want you completely at my mercy for two weeks. I want to use you as a fuck toy, doing to you whatever I want, however I want it, for that time until I get tired of yo and throw you away like you threw me away eight years ago. That's what I want."
So far the best interracial romance (one main protagonist black and the other white) I've read to date is Kristen Ashley's Lady Luck. By light years the best!
I think I showed some stamina, however, when I was 71 % in, I was hitting a dead end. DNF. Her Russian Billionaire was not my cuppa. Game over, dude!
Having a Russian hero is always a nice start. But it has to meet other qualifications, and I'd say Theodora Taylor did that very well. The beginning has one of the best openings I've read in a romance for a while. The language is almost lyrical in those scenes. I have to say that Alexei is just about scrumptious. He's fierce and dangerous/lethal-vibed, but he's also a teddy bear deep down. That combination is so irresistible. I liked very much how Alexei was three-dimensional. While part of him really despised Eva, and was determined to hurt her and get revenge, his heart didn't want that, and he'd never truly stopped loving her. He was very sighworthy. There is no question that Eva is the right woman for him, and I felt his pain and unresolved feelings over their breakup deeply, even though I wasn't sure that Eva was 100% to blame as he thought.
Eva was very likable. She is one of those people that you can't help but like if you spend more than five minutes together. I think her parents didn't realize how lucky they are to have her, considering how terrible they acted towards her. I figured she had a good reason for leaving Alexei, but my jaw dropped when it's revealed why she did. For some reason, I wasn't expecting that. You might say, 'well, duh,' but it was a surprise to me. I normally don't like the plot that is a huge aspect of this book, but I can understand why Eva chose to make that decision, and I like how it was dealt with between Eva and Alexei.
Deep down, I will always be a Harlequin Presents geek. I loved that this has many of the HP tropes that I dig, but with a dangerous twist. And with a black heroine! That's just about perfect for me. I liked how Alexei was wining and dining Eva, but he was also wooing her by doing couple stuff. And having South Padre Island as a rendezvous was a bit novel.
So why not five stars? I doesn't quite feel like a fiver to me. I think a large part was the rough sexual language. I am not a big fan of that, honestly. I think the love scenes were very steamy, but I could have done without the big words that seem obligatory in a steamy romance book nowadays. Personal preference. Thankfully, Taylor keeps the love scenes kink-free (wipes brow). I would have regretted if I had never gotten to meet Alexei just because the book was too kinky for me. Also, it could have been a tad longer. I think that for its shorter length, it was a satisfying story, but this easily could have been longer with more depth.
I'm so picky with five star ratings lately. If I wasn't getting so stingy, this could have been a five. But it was darn close.
Although Eva and Alexei were likable, flaws and all, the storyline was OTT, cliched and predictable. The sex is just there to fill in plot holes and to create this pseudo insta-lurv bond between the H and h, while the reasons behind their separation and reunion would give HPlandia a run for its money.
I've read bigger and better by this author. For me, overall it was watered-down good whiskey mixed with Sprite. A poorly made drink that got ruined with all the unbelievable sugar and calories. Not the worst I've read but it could have been wayyy better.
I loved this story, Alexi was one sexy mad man. He was sexy as hell and and a true alpha male with a hear of gold. Eva could not resist the sexy man no matter how hard she tried. The chemistry between them was so hott!Theodora tells an sexy exciting story that I could not put down.
Very shallow plot with awkward dialog. I never felt like the H&h really liked each other that much. I do usually like the whole secret baby plot line, but this one missed the mark for me. At the beginning I did think I was really going to like it because of the jerky hero and the potential OW, but the H didn't ever redeem himself, the heroine wasn't likable enough for me to care, and the OW went nowhere. I was digging a little bit of the revenge sex theme though, but it was pretty wham-bam in the descriptions.
4.75 stars ⭐️ I avoided reading this book till now because Hero Alexei was a pig in first book. But this was free unlimited in kindle and I couldn’t sleep because of heavy rain and wind howling. I already knew Alexei dated heavily during separation before going to this. Not exactly dates but kept ‘pets’ as was the norm in their crime family. But after reading the first chapter my heart went out for Alexei because of the way Eva so callously and cruelly broke his heart. He loved her very much and searched for her too. So when the acceptance stage came he was still angry without any closure. He was never planning to see her again. So that soothed me somewhat for his ‘pet’ stage. Also after their accidental meeting he was instantly teleported back to the wounded boy. So for the next 6 months when he plotted the revenge against Eva he was celibate. Also I loved the last chapter so much. Especially his behavior towards Eva. And the reason behind their breakup it was significant and necessary. They didn’t have anyway other than breakup. And I believe Eva wasn’t celibate during their separation either. Recommended.
I actually spent most of this book actively disliking Eva, right up until the "big misunderstanding" is explained. I think I only stuck with the book because it was short and I was curious how things would turn out and I really liked Alexei.
It seemed like the reveal to the reader too a bit too long. Alexei still doesn't get it until quite a bit down the road but I, as the reader, would have preferred it earlier. I just have a hard time reading about characters I can't respect and while I understand it's part of the plot, leaving the reveal for such a long time really affected how I saw Eva's character. That's totally on me though.
The book is well written, really nice flow and good characters. The whole bit with the laundry I found pretty amusing. I think I would have liked it more if I could have been supporting Eva's choices earlier.
Really good book! It started with a bang and held my interest throughout.
Other reviews talk about the hero, Alexei, but I loved the heroine more. Eva was so different. She had natural hair, she was quirky and free-spirited. I love how she would make lame jokes to ease her discomfort. I also sympathized with her because of the way she was treated by her father and the tough decision she had to make in leaving Alexei. He even admitted, once he learned the truth, that she'd made the right choice in doing so. It was clear how much he loved her and depended on her, and I could absolutely see how the devastation he felt when she left could turn him into the hardened man he became.
The sex scenes weren't bad, but I didn't feel the emotional connection between the hero and heroine I like to when I read a story like this. I skimmed the last two because I found the other interaction between them more interesting.
I don't normally mention typos in books, because even with an editor, errors can be missed. But there were enough in this book that they pulled me from the story a couple of times and are worth mentioning. It was particularly distracting because the rest of the writing is so tight. Misspelled words (frission for frisson, willl for will), duplicated words (she she), random quotation marks and periods and other things. I can only assume the author forgot to do a final pass with Spell Check because it would have found all of these errors.
Otherwise, I loved the book. It's a great story I think anyone would enjoy who likes to read intense, emotional stories about alpha males and the heroines who tame them.
I read Taylor's book on writing and was intrigued by some of her ideas, so I decided to give one of her actual romances a try, and you know what? Worth it.
Short second-chance romance about a couple reuniting years after FMC broke MMC's heart, and le gasp, he's rich and powerful now! . But, even more le gasp, she had good REASONS for leaving him that he didn't know about! Catnip to me, in other words. Theodora Taylor knows what she's about.
This IR is a quick and enjoyable read. The story starts with Alexei Rustanov and Eva St. James as a young couple in love struggling to finish their education and just plain happy to be together. They still have the optimism and hope of youth and believe that their love for each other can make up for their differences in race, culture, and any adversity that they may face. Alexi is working towards an MBA and wants desperately to earn enough money on his own to support Eva in her dreams and to be able to give her the quality of life that he feels she deserves. However, the life and family that Alexi left Russia to get away from catches up to him. Eva running for her life, leaves with more than just Alexi's heart. The story picks up when years later Alexi decides that it is time to get revenge on Eva by manipulating her in a way that he knows she wouldn't be able to combat. I truly enjoy Taylor's writing and the only complaint that I have is the same one that I have with many IR stories and that is that they don't seem to be long enough!
I have a lot of Theodora Taylor books collecting dust on my Kindle. I'm having myself a bit of a Theodora Taylor spree, and just like all the others, I was in love with this too. I was glad that this alpha was sweeter than Beast from the other Russian one I read. I loved Lexi and Eva together. 5 stars!!!!
I read this entire story in a night, I couldn't put it down. And here's why...Alexei. Where can I get one? I'll take him to go, please!
Alexei was the ultimate...I adored his dirty talk, the way he dictated what he would do to Eva before even touching her. I thought that was extremely hot. I loved this book even more than the first in the series. I enjoyed the internal struggles between Eva and Alexei. And I'm a sucker for well written 'I-had-a-baby-and-didn't-tell-you-cause-I-love-you', which this was.
Sigh...it's a DIK, for sure. I'll stop gushing. Read this book.

Alexei and Eva were living together as starving college Students. One day Eva disappeared. She writes a dear John letter and that’s it until 8 years later when Alexei sees Eva at a mutual friends wedding. He sets out to get Revenge on the girl who broke his heart…. Hidden pregnancy
Hot Russian with a second chance with his college girl. He was a major jerk when they meet back up. She forgives him and they are working towards a new relationship when he does something stupid. True love wins out in the end.
This is the love journey Eva and Alexi. These two are opposites. She is fun and opinionated. And can be a little loud but she means well. And oh yeah she hates doing laundry. Alexi on the other hand comes from a family of Russian assassins. He's been groomed to be the head of his Russian mob enforcer family. However while in The US he needs a very pretty Eva. And his heart is just not in it anymore. Our Author Theodora once again is superb in describing A passion between Eva and Alexi. And their trials and tribulations. I definitely recommend this book to you
Needed better proofreading but otherwise 5star Alexei, defying his crime family to be with her. No sense of humor which made him funny as hell. Eva, what a brave, quirky, sexy, beautiful spirit. Secret son story done very well.

Great story, too short, one hot alpha male and one strong female. The chemistry between Alexei and Eva is smoking hot! The sex scenes made me want to take a ice-cold shower. There's - action, blackmail, drama, heartbreak, steamy romance. But don't worry there is a beautiful HEA.
there was absolutely no *convincing* romantic chemistry between these people. all they did was fuck. hunch. goose. bump uglies. procreate.
the plot was hollow & i do not vibe with the misunderstanding/miscommunication trope at all. it could have also been longer with more depth, which would have helped to establish a believable connection between two people who are so culturally different despite their child.
New to me author. It was a good listen, ticked all the right boxes.. Hot and steamy and narration wasn't bad, however it didn't keep my attention. I couldn't connect with the characters and I found myself skipping chapters. I may come back and listen to it again in the future.
I really liked this interracial, opposites attract, second chance, secret baby romance. The characters were interesting. Alexi was the typical mafia man and Eva was the loud and opinionated woman.
This was a quick listen and I liked the plot, but felt the chemistry between the main characters fell flat during the spicy scenes. There was action, drama, heartbreak and a HEA.
This was probably like a 3.5 read for me.. I liked it.. a lot. I LOVED Alexei's "accent" and loved how the author wrote it (Im with Eva, I liked the accent better) But there were some things I didnt like (the whole The sex scenes were HOTTTT but I felt really let down at the end of the book.. Maybe Im just too big of a softie but I really would have liked a "babylogue" :\

That's is what Alexei Rustanov wanted to do to the woman that broke his heart eight years ago. Eva St James was in a world of trouble and did not know it. Lexi's kotenok had reasons for doing what she did unbeknownst to him. Her reason was close to his home. Their accidental meeting at a wedding started his plans in motion. He wanted his revenge on Eva and ruin her life with Aaron, if it was the last thing he did. Maybe he could get his life back on track. The best-laid plans of mice and Russian men did not happen that way for either Alexei or Eva. Those old loving feelings came back with a vengeance. Before Lexi could tell Eva of his feelings, she ran again. This time Lexi followed her and found out why and finally got closure of the "why" and "who." He finally understood why Eva ran and agreed with her that she did the right thing. Now he had the power to make sure she and their son were safe and he did so. Now, they can finally get the HEA even though it took eight years of misery to get there.
This was a well planned and written story. It revealed tidbits of the past to show what happened and why bit by bit. The mystery behind Eva's disappearance was slowly revealed and held my attention from beginning to end.
ADDITIONAL NOTE This book was read and listened to repeatedly using Audible.com. The narrator Clementine Dunn made the story come to life
I love this book! I was between a 4.5-5 so I just felt like giving it a 5 because this book came at just the right time and was everything I needed! I was just last night, searching for books and wondering why doesn’t anyone write more revenge books? They’re so hot! Combine that with a second chance romance and 🔥. This book was so steamy I loved it! I couldn’t find it more perfect in the way that the plot unfolded. There were times when I was so mad at the heroine and wanted to smack her.
I liked that we didn’t waste time on getting to the good stuff. Also, I like that there aren’t too many secondary characters. I like when stories are mainly filled with the MCs.
If you’re looking for a secondary romance revenge, which why wouldn’t you be lol jk this is my absolute favorite trope:genre I’m not going to lie. This was very well written. I can’t wait to read the whole series I’m glad that I found this author!
I couldn't put this book down. I read it straight through. I love the hero Alexei. The way he loved Eva and in all the ways he was determined to have her. At first I didn't like Eva. I thought she was selfish, but as the story progresses and you find out what happen to make her break off her relationship with Alexei, you come to love and respect her. I really enjoyed reading this book and I didn't realize it was a series. It read well as a stand alone and I will be reading the other books in the series next. I highly recommend this book.
RE READ AND LISTEN TO AUDIBLE VERSION MARCH 28TH 2019
2 1/2 stars. This was very much like a smuttier Harlequin Presents secret baby story, except you'd never get this hero and heroine in an HP. The hero has ties to the Ruffian mafia and a violent past; the heroine is black. Okay -- you might see a Mafia hero in an HP.
It was a decent read, though could've used some editing. Alexei was something of a romance stereotype, wanting to crush the woman who had hurt him and simultaneously protect and take care of her, but that always works on me. Eva is mature and sensible, for the most part, and has one of the better reasons to have a secret baby you're likely to come across. The sex scenes are more crude than hot, in my opinion.
