Connor Wells thought he was in for a fun summer of playing video games at home in Burlington, Ontario. But something has happened to his mother. He doesn’t know what it is, but it’s bad enough that she’s sent him off to stay with some distant relatives in Winnipeg. To make matters worse, Connor’s relatives are baseball freaks — not just fans, but full-blown baseball nuts. The trouble is, Connor can’t play at all. The summer would be a write-off for him, but one day he discovers he has a hidden talent. Connor can hit. He can really hit.

Power Hitter Christine Forsyth Connor was send to his relative's house, because of his mom's disease. When he went there, he was forced to play baseball with Griffin which is his relative. When he hits baseball with a bat for the first time, he hits home run, but his fielding was not good. Connor was tried out for baseball team, and he passed, but he was used as a pinch hitter. I think this book is funny, because he didn't know whether he used right or left hand to throw."When I threw the ball with my other arm it didn't feel much different"(32). I think people who doesn't like to play baseball should read this book, because this book talked about a boy who doesn't like baseball at first, but as he played it, he liked to play baseball.
Thirteen-year-old Connor Wells is forced to spend his summer with family he’s never met since his mom is entering the hospital for some mystery procedure that no one will tell him about. It’s been tough the last two years since his dad left for Florida and Connor longs for the day they will be reunited.
Connor finds himself living with a family of baseball fanatics, especially his two cousins. Since he doesn’t view himself as athletic and knows nothing about baseball, Connor is shocked when his first time at bat results in an explosive hit that earns a home run. With encouragement from his same-aged cousin, Griffin, Connor tries out for the local team. However, since he cannot do much more than hit, he doesn’t make the team.
Can Connor get the coaching he desperately needs to play on the same team as his cousin? More importantly, can his relatives give him the confidence he needs to face challenges not only on the field, but also in real life?
Each book in this Sports features an athlete from a different sport encountering realistic difficulties. Reluctant readers will like this fast-paced hi/lo story with a reading level of 3.6.
A boy named Connor has to go live with some relatives that he has never met before because his mother has to do "surgery". Connor wanted to return because he didn't really feel comfortable leaving his mother for the whole summer. But while he was there he discovered he could play baseball really well. So he began to play with his cousins and joined a team. Then he discovered something that would change his whole life.... One theme that fits this story is "discovery". I think this because Connor discovered something about himself that he never knew before.
This fast-paced storiy will keep young readers interested. There's a good dose of humour to balance some matters that are more serious. I just had an hard time with the fact that Connor went from knowing nothing about baseball to easily use terminology in conversations. Definitely a must read for young baseball fans
This will grab your attention and you won't want to stop reading - it has it all - a first person narrator you may recognize as yourself, sadness, happiness, joy and a sense of both acceptance and deep love - a joy to read.
Power hitter is a good book, I like how the main character moved to his cousins and disliked baseball. But his cousin loved baseball, than the main character found out he was so good and hit a dinger, which is a home run. Now he loves sports.
