I really enjoyed and now want to read more of her writings. For me, living in the town she was writing was like reading a movie. I could see her images clearly. Fast read and didn't want or couldn't put it down until I was finished.

Molly Bearpaw is a young Cherokee woman who has family issues. She was raised by her grandmother after her father abandoned the family and her mother committed suicide. Now she is a major crimes investigator for the Cherokee Nation. She begins to investigate the death of Talia Wind, who is the aunt of her assistant, Natalie, at the same time her grandmother tells her that her father is not dead and that he is back and wants to meet her. To complicate her life further, her boyfriend (D J Kennedy) works for the Sheriff (who does not want her involved in the Talia Wind investigation).

Molly wants to discover who killed Talia Wind but, at the same time, she is forced to face her feelings about her father and her relationship with her boyfriend. And, then her father gets arrested and seems to be involved in the murder.

Jean Hager creates a complex character in Molly - one who is flawed with anger and disappointment and lack of trust and yet who is principled. I enjoyed the story which was a cozy mystery with a twist. The ending brought all the elements together in a nicely satisfying manner.

I love the Jim Chee mysteries. Jim is a Navajo and the stories take place in and around the "res" in New Mexico and the res's capital, Window Rock. I've been there and saw the police department. Alas, Jim Chee wasn't there! The Molly Bearpaw stories take place in and around Tahlequah and Molly is Cherokee. That gives the stories a special connection to residents of Oklahoma, like me. Great story. I couldn't put it down. I was surprised by the ending and enjoyed the intertwining of characters , cultural information, and story line.

Molly investigates the murder of an aunt of her coworker. Talia Wind, a new age Cherokee shaman is attempting to contact and exorcise a ghost at the Native American Research Library in Tahlequah, OK, when she's murdered. Fun read.

Mostly interesting mystery set inside "Indian Country" in OK. Unusual in that the murder to be solved doesn't occur till almost halfway into the book.
