With more than 30 million books sold, the My Weird School series really gets kids reading! In the eighteenth book in the My Weird School series, Mrs. Yonkers, the computer teacher, is the nerdiest teacher in the history of the world. She can type with her feet! She buys foam cheeseheads off eBay! She even puts a Webcam on a turtle! Is she trying to take over the planet? Perfect for reluctant readers and word lovers alike, Dan Gutman's hugely popular My Weird School series has something for everyone. Don't miss the hilarious adventures of A.J. and the gang.
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
"Hi, My name is A.J. and I hate School" This is how most My Weird School books starts. But what kills me is I think deep down... A.J. really likes school. AND who wouldn't? With the case of crazier teachers, administrators and staff at Ella Mentary School, how can you help but having a good time at school.
Mrs Yonkers is the computer teacher...and a nerd and she wears a t-shirt that says "Nerds are cool"...she types emails with her toes so she can multi task and use your hands for other things. she has a Remote control for her remote control and the kids get to play in virtual reality world.... She also creates a substitute robot of her self instead of getting a substitute...oh the fun these kids have.... They also have a machine that turns junk food into healthy food.. (Sign me up) !!
My only criticize with this whole series is I don't the word "hate" when referring to people. Hate school, fine, hate math okay, but hate Emily, I don't like that.
Dan Gutman has done such a fun thing with this series of books. (My Weird School). He's captured the tone and voice of the age group perfectly, his humor is targeted at kids, and like Bugs Bunny cartoons...there's always a bit of a laugh for the adults who are reading along. His prose is easy; constructed to allow young readers to access it, while still maintaining solid structure and vocabulary.
My first grade son has devoured this series on his own, and then brings them to us to read so we can add funny voices...so the books become family performance art before bed.
Matthew: I really like how Emily fell out of the giant Hamster Wheel!!! Is she cray-z? I mean crayzy!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!??!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?? Is speedy the turtle really reallllllllllllllllllly real? I'm really confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Klutz is determined to bring Ella Mentry into the 21st century, so he hires a computer lab teacher named Mrs. Yonkers, and he bans sugar, soda, and junk food from the school. Mrs. Bonkers is a nerd, and is proud of it, and has started her own research and development company. Things get out of control when A.J. starts asking the robot that Mrs. Yonkers built all kinds of irrational questions causing it to malfunction. There are lots of candy references throughout the story as A.J. longs for some sugar. Most stories have a moral, but this one is just weird.
Goodread!!I think I am trying to complete all the children books😂😂😂.. I think these books can lift your mood .. Plot-Something weird is going on!

This story was so fun. Mrs. Yonkers is a new teacher at Ella Mentry that teaches the computer class. Since nothing at Ella Mentry is ever normal, Mrs. Yonkers is Bonkers and likes to make crazy inventions and has a companion turtle. I thought it was fun to see the inventions and the dynamic of the classroom and students. Rated 3 stars instead of 4 stars because certain things were a little too offensive, but I kind of expect it from something written in the 2000s.
Although this book is for easy reading, it is still absurd. Smart aleck AJ has an odd computer lab teacher who creates goofy inventions for the students to play around with. But at one point, she puts in her absence a robotic teacher which fails to do it's job. Crazy! They definitely did nothing with actual computers in this book. It makes no sense to me.
Mrs. Yonkers is a little too far out. I'm not sure why I can accept that Mr. Docker has a potato car, Mrs. Yonkers' computer tricks are a little *too* convenient to the plot- and smacks of a bit of ignorance on what computers actually do. They can be funny without being fantastical.
This was a very silly book! Arlo is an ornery student with a penchant for the dramatic. He loves his weird school and witnessing the antics of the computer teacher/inventor. A remote controlled pencil sharpener that blows up is certainly bonkers! 4 1/2 stars of fun!
This is a decent early chapter book series. Each book has a bit of humor and a relatable setting and characters that make them easy for students to engage with.
This story features a wacky computer teacher who is brilliant, but odd. She is an inventor and loves technology. The book is a quick read and it's actually pretty entertaining.
The second and third graders at my school love these books. They like that they are funny and use words like "shut up", "dumbhead," and "butt" as well as the exaggerated humor, some of which they don't always get. What I like about these books are the many idioms contained within each. It might be fun to make a class book about all the idioms and their meanings contained within each book...and you can also use this time, if you so choose, to address why using the words "shut up," "dumbhead," and "butt" in school are frowned upon.
Dan Gutman understands young reader’s humor and has created a fantastic book formula to draw in even the most reluctant of readers. The My Weird School series is perfect for students to practice their reading skills with its repetitive yet hysterical narrative and story lines. But don’t mention that part to your kiddos, they might run away in fear they could learn something. A must have collection for any grade school library or classroom!
Ihan hauska kirja uudesta (ja tietysti täysin sekopäisestä!) tietotekniikan opettajasta ja hänen mielipuolisista keksinnöistään. Hiukan erikoisena sivujuonteena kirjassa oli koulun yhtäkkinen sokerilakko, johon tämä rouva Simpura keksi "ratkaisuksi" laitteen joka muuttaa terveelliset ruuat terveellisiksi (??) roskaruuiksi... Hmm.
Tämä on tosi kiva ja hauska sarja, mutta luokan tyttöjä ei kyllä tarvitsisi mollata niin kauheasti... :P
My kids thought this book was pretty funny, although I think I laughed out loud while reading more than either of them did as they read. Even without looking at the drawings that are placed throughout the text, I could easily imagine quirky, absent-minded, creative-inventor-type Mrs. Yonkers, and her overwhelming compulsion to
