In HONOR'S REWARD, bestselling author John Bevere unveils the power and truth of an often-overlooked principle-the spiritual law of honor. Bevere explains that understanding the vital role of this virtue will enable readers to attract blessing both now and for eternity.
Marked by boldness and passion, John Bevere delivers uncompromising truth through his award-winning curriculums and bestselling books, now in more than 60 languages, including "The Bait of Satan," "Drawing Near" and "Driven by Eternity." He is an international speaker and co-host of "The Messenger" TV program broadcast worldwide.
John enjoys living in Colorado Springs with his wife, Lisa, also a best-selling author and speaker, and their four sons.
This book came highly recommended to me by someone I love and respect and so I was excited to read it and learn more about this important virtue. The first bit of the book was about honoring our goverment authorities and was mostly good, then there was one paragraph or so about honoring widows. Ater that, it soon became shocking and even horrifiying to read... the author went on and on about how he, (ministers) deserved "double honor" and honor meant financial payment. He went on about how if you pay your ministers twice as much, you will be rewarded by God. Also, you will recieve a reward from God if you fill his gas tank without being asked to, pay for his room service (and it better be a nice hotel you put him up in), and the worst thing you could do is pick him up from the airport in a car that has not been freshly washed. This dishonors God. WHAT!? Several times, he self-promoted his and his wife's books, making sure to state how high they were listed on book lists, and tried to thinly veil spreading his book around the globe as spreading "The Kingdom," yet did not mention the bible in his idea of "Kingdom." This man's wife is speaking at a local church this year, an event I usually attend, but because I was SO appalled by what this man was writing and trying to pass off as Kingdom work, I will not attend the event where his wife is speaking. I love my home libarary, but not only will I not add this book to it, I don't even want to donate it to the local Goodwil as I think it is dangerous to spread what this man is claiming is a way to honor God, which is paying him well. It is the worst book I have ever read, and do not recommend it to anyone.
John’s book are always mind-blowing. The revelation that this man has been given to understand messages from God’s word that are sorely needed in our times is nothing short of astounding to me. I found this book to be just as transformational as any of his others and think it is something that anyone would benefit from reading. The way he clearly shows the reward of honor that is woven all throughout Scripture will convict and correct you and inspire you to become a person who honors God above all else and therefore honors all those around you. Highly recommended!
Favorite Quote: “We are a people trying to understand Kingdom principles with a democratic mindset.”
The subject of honor, true honor, seems to be quite misunderstood in our modern day culture. There is the idea of what honor is but true honor that is of any real worth puts a heavy value with it. Not just words but weighty value that comes from a heart filled with honor for a great king, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
John Bevere pulls no punches when he delivers this book packed with what it really means to honor and be honorable. With that he clearly shows the rewards that come with that honor, the favor of God and the favor of men will surround people that are truly honorable like a shield.
If you really want to know and understand what biblical honor is, read this book. The teaching is clear, simple and easy to understand and backed by scriptural truth at every turn. An excellent read!
Really enjoy this book thoroughly.. the importance of honouring God, people around us, leaders, pastors, husband and wives, our parents..
It challenges me as a Christian to always make a choice to honour others. Love the story of Hannah and Eli in the Bible, when Hannah was wronged by the priest Eli.. instead of retaliating and being on a defense mode, Hannah chose to honour the priest. Honouring is an inward expression of our attitudes to others.. Will I look for honour from others around me, or look to receive honour from God? How can I say that I fear God whom I do not see, when I cannot honour the leader God has placed His authority on?
Also, on the aspect of honouring our parents.. I think many times, we justify the way we speak and think of our parents by their behaviours. We may have the belief that because they are not "good" parents, did not meet my expectations, so they do not deserve the honour from me. It is so common to hear this- " you have to earn my respect". But this book challenges me to not let others' behaviour affect the way I act.
I pray to honour God, my parents, my leaders in church, Pastors, my EMPLOYERS (supervisors, no matter how "undeserving" they are haha), my friends, strangers etc

This was one of the most life changing books besides the Bible that I have read so far. The in depth perseverance on the importance of honor is mind blowing! I am forever changed by the wisdom God has given minister Bevere in this book!
I received this book as a gift from dear friends for my birthday. I have read other Bevere books and really enjoyed them. However, I'm struggling to get my arms around this one. I read about 45 pages, then set it aside when my life became overwhelmed with circumstances beyond my control. Since then, I haven't felt the desire to come back to it. However, out of respect for Doug and Greta, I will pick it up again soon and see if I can make the connection in this message. Overall, I think Bevere is a very good writer. However, I think he is one of the best preachers I have ever heard. His visual presentation and style are dynamic!
Honor is a bit of a neglected concept, but that neglect comes at a price. The truth is, honor is biblical. In this book the author explains who all we are to honor, shows you in the Bible where we’re called to do that, shows the benefits that come with it, and challenges you to make a change if needed. Everything from honoring those in leadership, to those working under you, from kids honoring parents, to parents honoring their kids, from wives honoring husbands, to husbands honoring their wives. The truth is, there is no one above or beneath honor. And when you live a life of honor you receive honor’s reward.
This book from John Bevere was absolutely amazing. John makes so clear one of God's most clear and powerful promises, yet in everyday life it is probably the most elusive.
John explains quite simply how God rewards us for honoring; first of all Him the one and only God, but then his children. From our neighbors, enemies, civil authorities, children and spouses. God's reward for honoring is the one promises you just can't bear to miss!
As always, I admire John Bevere because he is not afraid to take the truth of God's Word and blatantly put it out there for all to read and be both convicted and inspired by. This book builds on the message of his previous books by going in even deeper to the heart of God. I pray that I would not forget this message and pray that God helps me to honor people that God puts in my path.
Honor is often mentioned in Christianity language. But few have talked about honor brings reward. It is truly something else altogether and I've leant quite a bit on this subject and to a certain extend, felt rebuked. Haha. All in all thanks to a friend who gave it to me for Christmas last year. God bless you buddy
I thought this book started off OK -- about how to receive God's blessings -- but it got a bit too materialistic for me. Gospel of materialism: Do this, and you'll get this... We might call it a blessing, but God's blessings aren't so much earned for the works that you've done. I think the point is missed here.
John Bevere alwys seems to outdo himself with every new book the Lord gives him to write. This is a must get. True rewards only come when we walk in obedience to God and live a life of submission to Him, His word and those placed in authority over us.
This was one of the first books written by John Bevere that I've read. He breaks down the concept of honor in different spheres of a believer's life and discusses its importance in a clear, organized manner. I love his approach to the subject - he does it without being too preachy - in a relatable but sometimes, convicting manner. He uses real-life examples to drive some points home. I've always wanted to learn more about how honour looks like in a believer's life because coming from a non-Christian background, I know how to honour according to "tradition" but somehow I sensed there's more to it than what I knew from culture & tradition. So this book was very helpful to me. I absolutely loved it. God really used it to teach and even correct some areas of my life. Highly recommended reading for any Christian who wants to take their walk with God seriously- because as I understand now, you really can't go far in your spiritual walk, if you don't have honor for God or for one another.
I read this book on the request of my cousin. The way how John has sincerely outlined the pathway to honor through humility and service is nothing less than a masterpiece. This book will definitely serve as a watershed moment in my journey not only to give me the ability to detect honor but also to develop it as a way of life. I do look forward to the feeling of fulfillment that lies in wait for those humbly pursue this way of path to godliness
I listened to the audiobook version and really enjoyed listening to this while I was on runs or walks or long drives. I think that some people would consider this a book that preachers protestant gospel, but I believe the writers intention is to provide the narrative that God honors those who honor Him and others. I do not believe that he is preaching that you will receive a monetary or physical reward when you honor others.
One of the most eye opening books I have read. As I was reading, I was realizing how much I dishonor so many people around me and how it is a blockage to my destiny. One thing he said was that this book is the one book he was written that has impacted him the most personally, to the point that his eldest son told him that he had changed.
This book is very recommended, especially to those who are servant of God. We have to give honor for everyone ; our God, our goverment, our pastor, our family, our friend, our leader, and even the employee and servant.. This book explained how God works when we give honor to them, and also what God will do if we don't give honor to them.
It’s a topic that not many books write about, so I was really refreshed to hear about it. Bevere also uses many biblical stories to substantiate his points, which I really appreciated, given that honour and submission isn’t largely emphasised in today’s climate and could seem debatable or subjective.
First half was great, but honestly it got a bit too lengthy and I didn’t read the second half.
Livro muito bom! Como cristãos é essencial descobrir todas as "pernas" da honra. Se tem algo que depois da leitura ficou cravado em meu coração é que a honra primeiro deve acontecer dentro do próprio coração, do contrário é hipocrisia!
I am deeply happy for this book, it change my mind.
I choose this book because I want to know about honor . I recommend this book, for everybody , because God is in our life and he wants to learn more and more each day.
Excelente 👌 libro. Es mi primera vez leyendo a este autor, este libro me impacto de principio a fin. Super recomendado. Siempre quise entender que significaba realmente el honor. Este libro me ha ayudado, me ha traído tranquilidad, revelación y a la vez confrontación.
I learned a lot reading this book. It put to rest many questions by including relevant scriptures and applicable stories. All an enjoyable while challenging read. John Before pulls no punches!
A challenging topic and one that is underplayed in Christian life. Book is backed up in its scripture and shows many practical examples of how the honor principles play out in life.
