Theoretical with practical applications, this book comprehensively explores: a scenic designer's role within the production as a whole, types of scenery and sets, how to design (from script interpretation to making a model box), set construction, scenic painting and props. Really informative but still perfect for a visual learner because almost everything is supported by relevant diagrams or images . It isn't the most advanced study ever but, as the introduction says:
"while we cannot claim to have covered every eventuality, we are confident that the approach outlined in the following pages will lead to productions that are successful, imaginative, and, above all, enjoyable for you, your colleagues, and your audiences."
It was exactly what I needed as someone with amateur experience in the field going on to study it further and I've enjoyed dipping in and out of it.
